Renny, you light up a stone and drop it down the circular staircase, illuminating the entire staircase shaft as the rock goes down the middle of it. The middle of the staircase shaft is small but the rock manages to drop all the way down. However... eventually, the light goes out.
So from this you can determine that this staircase must exceed 40 feet since that is the radius of the spell, and the rock must be farther down since you can't see the light from it anymore.
Shae, you pull out your familiar lock picks of which you've become quite accustomed to. At this point, they are basically like extensions of your fingers. You start with the wooden trunk's lock/strap, and immediately notice that the trunk isn't even locked. You quickly put back your tools and open the trunk..... so much dust... pooooof
You see what you think are skeletal remains, wrapped in a tattered bed sheet, which is stained with dry blood.
Any other details will require an Investigation or a Medicine check... if you so desire.
Ignatia frowned, " Dead person in a trunk....so thats a murder...we should probably check all the other rooms on this floor before we head down the stairs, we don't want to leave enemies at our backs if we need to book out of here fast."
Shae and Flynt, you both start looking at the skeletal remains, first just looking, then poking and moving the sheet to see what actually was wrapped up in there.
Shae, with that natural 20 roll..... one look of the unwrapped skeleton corpse (it is not quite fully rotted yet and has some fleshy tissue still in some areas) it all makes sense. This is a human, a female human. You do not recognize her face (still lots of flesh on it) from any of the family portraits throughout the house, so you can only assume that this woman is the family's Nursemaid. You can clearly see from both the scratches on the bones as well as the pierce marks on the fleshy sections of the corpse that the nursemaid was stabbed multiple times. Murdered. Just like Ignatia had just said. Then wrapped in the tattered bed sheet and put in this trunk to rot.
Who killed her? And why?
Those thoughts run through your mind and then suddenly the 1/2 skeleton 1/2 corpse woman starts to shake violently, opens up and unravels her body which makes awful contorting noises, stands up in the trunk, and opens her dead yes and looks at all of you, one by one, hissing as she does so with her tongue also flailing about. She's pissed.
The nursemaids remains that you've disturbed has now animated into a Specter.

Flynt - I assume you still have your torch lit, or else most if not all of the party won't be able to see. So for this battle can we assume you're wielding your long sword and the torch, putting the shield on your back for the time being? (AC16)
(This makes for quite the spooky ambiance with the torch lighting in the room, as this fight begins with that Specter like animating and contorting to stand up in the trunk and gaze at all of you.... making strange stuttering noises from her mouth, nothing of which sounding like any type of language. Just noise.)
