“Well, anyone want to hold onto these? We may be able to find the owners or if not we may be able to make some gold off of the items?” Sereena asks as she places the items in the pack and takes hold of the hammer.
”What do you mean ‘care the book?’” she asks Gadus.
"Let's just say that words can trap too -- a particular type of security the more 'educated' tend to use," Gadus replies, waving hands and wiggling fingers pantomiming magecraft. "I'm curious though, as to why you'd think it's fair to just up and take these items."
Whoever they belong to left in a hurry. I’m sure she merely means to safeguard them until the owners are located he winks at Sereena. Now lets have a look at that door, don’t want to trigger any traps if that’s locked. Investigation of the door. 5

“I did not intend to keep the items, and just ‘up and take them’ as you say. I did say find their owners. I merely added that if unable to, than what else would we do with them? Turn them in to the lost and found of the Lowlands? Any gold garnered would be able to go towards the refuge that....oh, never mind, let us get back on point. It is an odd looking door.”
And Sereena turns towards the door obviously perplexed. Thinking to herself, “How could anyone possibly think that I would just wana up and take things, ‘oh, she’s an orc. She must wanna keep it for herself, greedy thing.’ I really hope these people learn to trust me, otherwise it’s gona be hard getting that temple built for the refugees. Ilmater help me!”
As she looks at the door, the runes seem to grab her attention. She stands almost mesmerized by them just captivated by the difference of the door in comparison to the rest of the room.
(OOC I don’t know if it’s to late to do her own check or help, but Sereena, although unable to fully comprehend the runes, would sure give a try at trying to work it out. So if it’s possible for another to help, cool. Otherwise, Investigation 17)

"All I'm saying is that if I came back to my camp to see someone touching my property, I would attack without warning," Gadus says shrugging. He follows the group to the door, but leaves a good 10ft between them (1).
The door appears magical, in that it is covered in hundreds of gnomish letters. Most, if not outright all, are handcarved, and after a few moments of contemplation, a common theme seems to develop. A specific symbol, repeated evenly across the door, that you have in fact seen quite recently, on the sign above Ib-Drip's door. The door appears to be older than the room it is in, inasmuch as the glossy surface of the rock seems to stretch slightly as if brushed across the door's hinges.
OOC: Just to be clear, you are leaving each of the items in the bag and the hammer untouched?
"Only one way to find out." Anansi moves up close to the door, careful not to touch it. He then begins to move his hands in front of the surface, trying to activate the door or find some sort of pattern.

As you reach down to pick up the hammer, you find that it resists. It is impossible to lift, and feels as though it is a solid piece of the floor, even though your eyes clearly tell you that was placed there casually and is meant to be moved.
With delicate fingering, and a little-known trick of the trade that you learned from a old friend a long time ago, you uncover a keyhole hidden within the intricate grooves of an inconspicuous off-center glyph. The majority of the mechanism, however, including whatever is currently holding the door shut, is still covered by what now looks to be an solid inch of metal-reinforced hardwood. Another sleight of hand check (at advantage because of your 20+ on the last roll) should get you through.
The door clicks open and swings wide with a rusty shriek. A narrow staircase is visible a few steps within, and the walls beyond the door have resumed a more normal dull look.
"Care the book, friend," Gadus whispers. "Better safe than sorry."

Sereena feeling somewhat shamed leaves the items where they were with the intent to reopen the discussion on their way back out.
“Look at the hinges, that seems a bit odd. Think we can just open it up without doing anything? Or take the door off of the hinges?”
"Only one way to find out." Anansi moves up close to the door, careful not to touch it. He then begins to move his hands in front of the surface, trying to activate the door or find some sort of pattern.

The door, when pushed, does not budge. Touching the gnomish script is similarly ineffective.
“Maybe we should see if the book or hammer play into this,” Sereena suggests.
She moves over to the hammer and book, picks it up and moves to the door, opening the book.
As you reach down to pick up the hammer, you find that it resists. It is impossible to lift, and feels as though it is a solid piece of the floor, even though your eyes clearly tell you that was placed there casually and is meant to be moved.
Anansi will use one of his psychic blades and try to wedge it between the doors to see if he can find a locking mechanism.

Anansi doubles down on his efforts, bolstered by the elation of finding the hidden spot.

“Well, that seemed easy enough for you. Shall we move forward?” Sereena asks.
