Tine smiled looking around as an idea hit her and she smacked Ashlin on the butt for revenge as she gave her a wink "That's a great idea Ash. We could create a festival that will be celebrated each year..." she paused for a moment as if thinking of a name "Maybe, Fheis Taibhse or Latha nam marbh. The purpose to remember those who we have lost throughout the year and in events like this. Eventually, we could build it up into something that would open us up for commerce from all towns. All are welcomed to remember those who have passed, not sorrowfully but happily. We will celebrate their memories and their stories - if there was a giant stone we could carve names into it so the dead are never forgotten and neither will the rebuilding of our new town or we could light paper lanterns that with the heat would float up into the sky."
Ashlin giggled at the revenge smack and after Tine had spoken she tapped her chin thoughtfully. "Actually, Tine, I like both of those ideas. And if we can't find a big rock then maybe we could make something out of clay or wood to serve the same purpose. Maybe for the same reason we could turn our graveyard into a park? Or at least give it a nice garden."
Falros will finally chime in after listening to all the ideas bouncing around, "I like the idea of the ceremony before the feast and festival, and I think we could definitely turn it into a tradition. Along those lines, rather than a single large rock or lanterns, why not bricks? Anyone who lost someone and wants them remembered can carve their name onto a brick, and add it to a wall. Eventually we can build a place of worship centered around the 'Wall of Remembrance'? As for the elementals, I think visiting them in the morning might be a good idea, and while I think showing up with a small army might be misconstrued, a few of us ready to defend ourselves if needed wouldn't be a bad idea. Personally, I think that while we all have great ideas of what a town needs, we just got here, so I plan on spending the evening talking with the citizens to find out what they want and need, and would welcome the company of our councilor while I do so. Give us a chance to learn our roles and them a chance to see us in them, get things started on the right foot as it were."
Nodding at Ashlin, "Perfect. Make it something they're doing, something they can be involved in. Hopefully it'll spread and we can let people from all over add to the wall. Encourage peaceful relations with the other towns and bring in some trade at the same time."
"Well, shouldn't be too hard to spend time with the people of this place, as we don't have a place to stay either." Michael points out. "After all, if the town cannot shelter all of its people as it is, then 9 more people will just be 9 more people without a roof over their head tonight." He shrugs. "I for one am planning on sitting with those outside tonight and talking with them to learn what I can of this land and its people."
(I agree with the spending of the citizen points. Winni probably would spend time helping repair things in town rather than hunting)
Winni looks over to Areon, "Yes that plan sounds good. We should probably spend some time assessing the damage as well. There might be a few houses that can be fixed easily. I could help the townspeople with that tomorrow."
Tarkkin raises a hand very shy hand, "I-if I could suggest something as well?...Could someone go with me to talk with those Earth Elementals? I feel that they could help us more if they joined us here on the surface....not to mention I feel bad for them." He states that loudly enough, but then shrinks up again as he starts mummering something else, "Also, I know how this is gonna sound but...." He clears his voice and states, "For those children who lost their parents......we could adopt them and train them as soldiers...Iknowhowthatsounds….but I'm not saying we give them no choice, or that we be cruel! Only that it would benefit them in the present, and help us once they grow up." He goes back to fiddling with his hands as he talks, fully understanding that the suggestion of child soldiers isn't very orthodox. However, the issue of the many new orphans or injured people was an issue they had to address.
(OoC: For the Earth Elemental thing, anyone speak Primodrial? As for the kid thing, yah it's a weird idea, feel free to scream at Tarkkin if you want XD)
Before we continue any farther, I'll give everyone a few hours if they would like to contest the (4 Citizen Points = 1 Building Housing [costs 2 Industry], 2 Hunting and 1 Woodworking) mandate plan.
My plans were that since there's nine of you, you would each get 2 free time events per week, and contributing to anything would not guarntee any resources or progress in building/research/whatever. The roll of the dice and random events would influence that.
Let's say that industry and construction would be under athletics/any skill check you can convince me would apply, and hunting and fishing would fall under survival (if there is any relevant dex saves like perhaps archery I would maybe allow it). Farming could be either athletics or any relevant wisdom/intelligence skill. If there's anything I'm missing please ask me first before rolling.
The feast/party and ceremony as of now would consume 1 food if you are going for a basic meal plan or 2 food if you want to go extravagant. I will count entertainment and religious ceremonies and any other skill checks you guys would want to put into the party as a 0 costed free time event (not all story events will have that however.)
As for the cultural traditions; Orlliean's believe in funeral services lead by the church followed by burial in a grace yard. Kashtal Tribes; will I'll say 1 unfortunate victim and their surviving family typically operate in a burning of the body in either boat or pyre; followed by festive celebration in their lives and accomplishments. And elves and some half elves have a special death ritual; where they have a magic only known to a select few who practice the elvish arcane arts. This magic is a ritual in which they dissolve their body and life forces into a form of nature the deceased had the most connection (trees, river, ocean, mountain, etc). They then ask for the affected thing to be classified as a holy site to the respective town. If they cannot, some elves believe the deceased spirit will be trapped in a in-between plane of existence and haunt the living. If any elves or half elves want; I'll allow a history/religion/arcana check to see if any of you know this ritual.
And yes, I will allow recycling checks for both mandates and free time events. Those will be classified under random events; which I will roll 1D100 and tell you what happens.
"I will leave the details of the gathering to all of you. As for assisting with the work, I am a strong individual but I must insist on staying focused on the security of this place.
"For now, I will patrol the village and do what I can to keep everyone safe. If you have need of me, send a runner," he stands and collects his shield. His face looks weary but determined.
Tarkkin knew that the idea was weird, but he still couldn't help suggest it. He starts speaking again, beginning almost as a whisper, but slowly growing to a standard volume as he recalls his own past, "With so many of the soldiers or guards....whatever they were, from before leaving, farmers with swords might carry us for a short time, but we do need soldiers....a-again. I don't like the idea a lot either, but I'm not saying forcing them is good. The apprenticeship idea is good to, but we do need to figure out how we're gonna protect people."
"Having an apprentice or two would be helpful down the line. I'm sure we have a lot to teach them. The children would also be useful for running communications between parts of the town as it grows."
Looking to Tarkkin, "I would not rule out the possibility of some of them choosing to enlist in the army, but I don't think it should be our first suggestion, it may give them the wrong impression of us. We probably shouldn't force them into apprenticeships either though, sort out what we have, and give them options, let it be their choice. Hopefully though, even the orphans will still have some family in town. As for your idea of visiting the earth elementals, I believe there was already talk of a few of us going tomorrow to visit them. You and Tine can work that out. And just to be clear, I don't think this ceremony would be a replacement for any funeral rite, simply an extra yearly practice." He will stand up to indicate he's ready to get things going for the festival, "Anything else before its too late to actually have the festival?"
(Just to be clear, we can roll various checks for the event tonight, and then have two slots for rolls during the coming week? One of which most of us will be doing some kind of food or industry check according to our plan?)
"I agree that we should give the children the option. I had assumed that we wouldn't force the children, but provide it as a way to help them move on from this tragedy and have a brighter future. As for the elemental, I too would like to go whenever we decide to visit them." Winni looks around, "I for one am looking forward to some down time tonight."
Tine smiles "Of course Tarrkin we can go together tomorrow, I wanted to talk to them anyways and it would be nice to have you there should something go wrong."Her eyes kind of narrow at the sound of immediately placing children into military service "I'd be more willing to let them choose where they go for their apprenticeships - plus it will allow them to pursue their interests and learn a useful skill until we can get a type school system set up. I don't think it would be a good idea to immediately for children to become child soldiers. Those aren't the good guys in stories my dear."
OOC:
I'll save my roll for the earth elementals since I feel that's going to be a high DC.

OOC: Spoiler for those who speak Elvish
Fheis Taibhse translates to Ghost Festival
Latha nam marbh translates to Day of the Dead
