Realizing this Dwal will say: "Everyone stop. Be on your guard. There is a carriage at the side of the road. It seems to be stuck. There is a person there but I don't think it's human. It appears to be eating a human leg. I think its undead."
Dwal lets a brief sigh. "This place needs a crusader to cleans the undead form this land. That and a priest." he says with a smile.
Peri slides out of the saddle and ties the reins to the back of the cart. (The extra horse's reins are still tied to the horn of his saddle) He pulls out a torch and prepares to light it, but will wait for a signal from Dwal, Qivys, or Missy.
The sound of a halfling sliding out of a saddle draws his attention. Quietly he whispers to Peri, "Easy my friend. Save that light for now, it'll give away our position to every ghoul and beast for a mile. Let's see if the dotty dwarves can't handle this one - in the cover of darkness. I'll yell for ye if we need the help. Do ya have a weapon of range if need be?"
"Now let's see if there's more of these buggers out there" he mutters while calming his mind and letting Pelor light up the damned, in his mind, with his Divine Sense.
"Might need a bit more than just darkness to sneak up on them." She says eyeing Qivys, then shrugs. "I don't have any particularly stealthy attacks. So I'll hold back as well, ready a fire bolt if needed."
Qivys reaches out with his Divine Sense to help discern what he is seeing. It is indeed Undead. There are no other undead or much of anything else visible in the sandy, scrubby, dark landscape surrounding you.
The creature continues to feast in the doorway of the carriage in the inky darkness.
"Indeed. And it appears to be alone." He places his backpack into the cart and draws his hammer before quietly closing the gap between himself and the creature. "Let's begin, shall we"
Qivys, the undextrous platemailed paladin, only takes a few steps forward before his prodigious armor clanks in the night air. The creature's head jerks toward you suddenly– you can glimpse its decaying skin, sunken eyes, and sharp, bloodied teeth – before it dives inside the carriage.
Peri, still unable to see the creature, will slip up under the wagon and hunker between its rear wheels muttering, "Oh aye, this situation calls for subtlety and stealth. Let's let the DWARVES handle it, clang clankety clank... wouldn't want to give ourselves away, clankety rattle bang...." The words fade into indistinct grumbling.
The torch lands close to the carriage door, where it sputters and sparks on the ground. A few strands of wet straw begin to smolder (although there's no immediate threat of the fire spreading.)
The torch illuminates a small sign on the side of the carriage, "Terrence's Toys" - it's a merchant's carriage. Both horses are freshly dead. The door is open, and you see signs of movement within, but little else.
"So a stealth takedown is out," Missy starts with an amused smile then pauses when Dwal attempts to throw a lift torch at the carriage, "and our next plan is to just set the carriage on fire? I could get behind that." Attempting to help do just that she throws a fire bolt at the carriage.
Dwal yells out...."NO', upon seeing Missy launch a firebolt. "I was trying to give our non night seeing folk some light so they can target if they need be. there might still be living folk inside."
Dwal will use Mage Hand to pick up the torch and hold it close to the carriage to shine more light inside.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Peri:
Soft chuckling can be heard coming from beneath the wagon. "Buncha ninjas, we are! Sure and why not give 'em a bit of a nudge, see what pops out?" With that he fires an eldritch blast into the back end of the carriage, just to give it a shake. 17 to hit; 3 damage.
((Missy just casually accepting that they were going to set the carriage on fire cracked me up!))
"By Moradin's Hammer, you too stumblebottom?" Dwal says with a bit of wonder and a bit of amusement in his voice. "You two have become savages." he exclaims a with a slight chuckle.
"ALL RIGHT MR GHOUL OR WHAT EVER YOU BE, COME OUT OF THERE!" Dwal calls to the carriage.
Missy hurls a mote of mystic fire at the carriage, but it flies clear over the top into the scrubby brush behind it, off the side of the road.
Dwal takes a few steps closer (30 feet from the carriage) to peer inside with his torch. Two sets of sunken, dead eyes reflect back. Evidently, a second undead figure was hidden from Qivys senses.
Peri fires a beam of crackling energy at the rear of the carriage. The vehicle is slammed forward, as if kicked by an invisible giant, and the back of the carriage is heavily damaged in the blast.
As you watch, the unbalanced vehicle smoothly tips over onto its side, down a slight slope at the edge of the old highway. The door that Dwal was looking through is now facing straight up toward the black and heavily overcast night sky.
Unlike Dwal's torch, Missy's firebolt seems to have started a small blaze in the tall dead grass, perhaps thirty feet behind the carriage.
Failing to be the thief he so desperately wants to be, Qiv breaks into a run. The carriage on its side on the shoulder of the road, pushed there by a magical bolt of energy from a halfling that uses a wagon as an umbrella. A fire, started by a city guard. And a torch held by a magical hand, waiving in the air. It's all too much for him. He begins to laugh and shouts back to his colleagues "Grand adventurers we are. They'll sing songs of our exploits for eons!"
"Don't be a fool Peri, we can't leave these abominations standing. Think of the townsfolk. Plus, whacking undead is a good way to get rid of tension, and you seem a little tense"he says with a smile.
You hear sounds of frantic scrambling coming from inside the tipped carriage, perhaps of feeble-minded clawed creatures desperately trying to right themselves and escape this strange trap.

Dwal
Realizing this Dwal will say: "Everyone stop. Be on your guard. There is a carriage at the side of the road. It seems to be stuck. There is a person there but I don't think it's human. It appears to be eating a human leg. I think its undead."

Qivys
The sound of a halfling sliding out of a saddle draws his attention. Quietly he whispers to Peri, "Easy my friend. Save that light for now, it'll give away our position to every ghoul and beast for a mile. Let's see if the dotty dwarves can't handle this one - in the cover of darkness. Dwal
"What say you Qivys, is it undead?" Dwal asks in a hushed tone.
Qivys
"Indeed. And it appears to be alone." He places his backpack into the cart and draws his hammer before quietly closing the gap between himself and the creature. "Let's begin, shall we"
Stealth 4
((Anyone would think he's a thief incarnate with the amount of stealth rolls ))
Qivys, the undextrous platemailed paladin, only takes a few steps forward before his prodigious armor clanks in the night air. The creature's head jerks toward you suddenly– you can glimpse its decaying skin, sunken eyes, and sharp, bloodied teeth – before it dives inside the carriage.

Dwal
Dwal smiles "I didn't expect to be all halfling sneaky about it all." he says as he heads forward.
Dwal step off to the side, away from the party and cart and take a torch from his pack.
He will use Prestidigitation to light the torch and then throw the lite torch near the carriage.
Hit: 7
The torch lands close to the carriage door, where it sputters and sparks on the ground. A few strands of wet straw begin to smolder (although there's no immediate threat of the fire spreading.)
The torch illuminates a small sign on the side of the carriage, "Terrence's Toys" - it's a merchant's carriage. Both horses are freshly dead. The door is open, and you see signs of movement within, but little else.

(Snap! Lol)

OCC: I was laughing as well...
Missy hurls a mote of mystic fire at the carriage, but it flies clear over the top into the scrubby brush behind it, off the side of the road.

((The whole image is just too funny!))
Peri:
"Right, that's the path cleared then. Shall we continue to town?"
Qiv
