Peri will take a short rest, to let his leg heal and to stave off exhaustion a little longer. He knows that he'll need to find the right tools (like a sewing kit) to prepare some functional, if crude, sails. Then, as a sailor with the right skill set, and some willing assistants, he figures it'll take roughly 6 hours of labor, but there is still a chance of failure. (DC 10 Dex check with +2 proficiency bonus for tools, provided he finds them.)
Meanwhile, Gerrard climbs down into the hold. There is one large crate among the casks and bolts of cloth. He manages to pry the top of it. It's a massive, extremely well-crafted drill bit, together with some powerful steel rods and fittings. Parts to a huge machine, maybe. No weapons.
After searching the forward compartments and finding the sailcloth and bringing it out to the main deck, Gerrard goes below decks and finds the drilling equipment. Coming back up, he mentions to Dwal, "Master Fiercehammer, it appears that the crate holds drilling equipment, not weapons. I don't know what the Lizard Folk are doing, but the equipment doesn't seem to suggest a prelude to an attack on the town. If the town council has no objections, I don't see why we couldn't complete the delivery for them."
By the time Peri returns from his short rest, Gerrard has pulled the sailcloth onto the main deck as well as a few tools that look like they might be useful in crafting sails (OOC: I posted Gerrard was looking in those boxes Gerrard in the sailcloth room -- were the tools there?). "Ah, Captain Fenwader, I hope you are refreshed from your brief respite. I was able to find the sails and the Lizardfolk's crate of drilling equipment. We still have the matter of these locked boxes, however. I'm going to get some rest if you have it from here."
The tired noble heads to a nearby hammock and tries to get some shuteye.

Dwal strokes his beard and sits pondering for a bit over the information. "I never took Lizardmen for miners. It makes me suspicious but, without anything to go on, I can't see why we would not honor this contract, though it be with pirates." he says. "I'll go down and inventory all that is there in a bit and keep a log so we can present it to the council."
Dwal gets up, dusts himself off and goes in hunt of quill, ink and paper.
The plated dwarf will rouse when he hears Peri leave the room. Rested, albeit only slightly, he joins his fellow buccaneers on the deck. "What'd I miss?" he grumbles as the pain from his punctured shoulder quickly reminds him of the utensil wielding pirate. "Dwal, take that cabin if ye want to hang ya boots a bit".
Overhearing talk of mining, Qiv gets a quick recap of the goings on from "The Captain" and heads towards the bow to take up the guards position near the lizardfolks door. "Sorry Cap'n, but these old stubs for fingers ain't no good for makin' sails. They are good for swingin' hammers if our guests decide to start something though."
Gerrard reports that the larger box in the storage cabin contains copper nails, the smaller box is indeed a sailmaking/repair kit, and the cask is three-quarters full of hard, dry tar.
Dwal finds an inkpot, two quill pens, and paper in the Captain's desk.
(For those who want to take it, a short rest will give you whatever hit dice you might want to use, and will stave off exhaustion for at least a few hours. It is still the middle of the night, several hours before twilight.)
The lizardfolk are quiet; their door remains closed. Mortly wanders into the galley to make some food. Elbin stands around uncomfortably. The anchor holds, as does the weather.
Gerrard will indeed take a short rest, then get up and help with the sails as best he can--even if that just means staying out of the way. He is curious about the contents of the locked boxes, and so will work with the others to figure out what keys are available and see what might be useful inside the boxes if they can get them open.

Peri will listen to Gerrard's report, then wish him a pleasant rest. "Not much renown in bein' captain of a ship with no sails. I'd like t'be able to maneuver, at least, once the sun comes up. Don't much care for the idea of sittin' out here helpless as lambs for all the world to see. ELBIN! Go on down with the surly dwarf there and try to make yourself useful. Mind you jump to, lad; that there's the namesake of the ship!" With that, he'll swipe some fruit from the mage's cabin, then munch as he starts working on the sail. (DEX check 11 )
Dwal descends into the hold and begins his inventory. Against the aft bulkhead are stacked bolts of cloth, lashed by ropes to brackets bolted to the deck so they are secure. On each side are stacked a large number of small casks, also secured by ropes to the deck.
He counts: • 50 bolts of silk • 40 casks of brandy • 40 casks of fine wine Their total value must value in thousands of gold pieces, easily.
But Dwal has a start when he opens the large crate of high-quality mining tools. He ordered these tools; the mine paid 200 gold pieces for them. They are many weeks late, and he's personally caught more than a little grief from his employers over their disappearance. His supplier claimed they were shipped two months ago, but they simply never arrived.
Dwal keeps detailed notes on everything he inventories. Upon seeing the tools he is a bit frustrated but, knows pirates seem to rule the seas in this part of the world. During the inventory he does reflect on the current adventure and his life. "High Sea Adventure! Blah!!" he exclaims.
Dwal does check to make sure all the tools ordered are accounted for. Once done he will find a corner and adjust his pack and take a needed nap.
Still somewhat tired, Gerrard does his part to assist Peri with the sails. During their work, he discusses with Peri what the halfling has found so far in the boxes and the paperwork, as well as what they should do with the lizardfolk and why they might want drilling equipment.

Peri ponders the mystery of the lizardfolk as he works on the sails. "You're sure they said 'weapons?' I don't know, then. The smugglers we fought up in that house had kegs of liquor and bolts of cloth in a cavern, so it seems likely all the kegs and cloth in the hold were bound for them. That just leaves the drilling equipment, which can't hardly be called weapons. I don't really know much about the lizardfolk, but assumin' they're cold-blooded like regular lizards, minin' would be 'specially challenging for them. It's likely the drillin' equipment isn't theirs either."
He continues mulling the question, quietly hemming the edges of what was beginning to look more like a proper sail. Then, "You don't suppose those weapons you found in that chest were what they're talkin' about, do you? Doesn't seem like the sorta cargo that requires an escort, but they were of a queer make, were they not? Maybe they've a special significance for the lizardfolk? I dunno. MORTLY! How's breakfast comin'? I haven't had a proper meal in hours."
"I thought about that too, Captain Fenwader," answered Gerrard. "I think those weapons were of sea-elven make, but there were just three in the box--a dagger, a spear, and a ruined crossbow...Seems hardly like a haul of 'armaments' as the lizard folk spoke about it. Perhaps there might be more in the unopened boxes."

(At this point, everyone has taken a short rest. Feel free to take any hit dice. Exhaustion won't set in until afternoon.)
Night turns to twilight turns to dawn; the coast has become plainly visible. The winds have picked up a little - a few whitecaps can be seen - and it's gotten colder. The wind is still blowing from the southeast - it should be an easy run back to Saltmarsh with functioning sails, provided there aren't any navigational hazards along the way. There's no sign of Stone.
The makeshift sails are well on their way to completion - just another hour or two should finish them. Mortly has prepared a tasty breakfast of salted cod, sausage, and ale.
(Great...the Lizardmen are doing a Simpsons routine :P)
Dwal gets up and wipes the sleep from his eyes, stretches a bit and makes his way out of the hold to the deck. The brisk air makes him shiver a bit but he makes his way to the group.
"Well KAPTAIN!" Dwal says with some amusement. "What's yer plan?"
Looking to the LIzarman opening the door, Gerrard shakes his head, saying, "Nu, dar am găsit documentul tău."
Draconic:
"No, but we found your document."
Turning back to Peri as they continued to work on the sails, Gerrard says, "It occurs to me that the weapons may not be on board because they were yet to be picked up. That house that the crew was trying to signal last night--perhaps that could be where the 'armaments' are."

"I suppose that's possible, but we didn't see any weapons at the house, ready to be shipped out. Ask them if they brought the weapons aboard or if the pirates were supplying them. And maybe ask how many weapons we're lookin' for?"
To Dwal he replies, "Not much of a plan yet. We need a sail before we can do anything more than drift. Once we get this rigged, I suppose we can sail her back to the harbor mouth, then get some help bringin' her in. Still don't know what to do with the lizardfolk, but once we're back in town it's the Saltmarsh Guard's problem."
After listening to Peri, Gerrard says quietly, ”Be ready if this goes poorly,” and responds to the Lizardfolk.
Draconic:
“We did not make this promise to you. The captain who did so is dead, and it is entirely possible he was planning to cheat you. We found your document, but we have found few weapons on board. Did you bring your weapons on board for transport, or did you intend to pick them up from a port along the way? How many weapons are we looking for?”
