Peri trots down the stairs, careful not to slip on the ball bearings some fool scattered all over the place, and takes up his rearguard position in the doorway between the cellar and the bunkroom.
His confidence returning somewhat, Seth strides over to the secret door behind the shelves. He peeks in, studies for a moment, then closes it, and wipes his brow. "Can your magician fly? Ain't no going that way."
"Well he definitely left that way. There were all manner of illusions through this room, perhaps even that chasm is not real. Try throwing something in there and see if it falls away. My gut tells me it won't" Qiv recalls the feeling he got when they entered the room previously. It seems Sanbalet likes to cover his tracks.
"You do it" beckons Seth. Between the scream and whatever he just saw, he still looks a little shaken. He walks across the room to study the barred door.
"Urogalan's furry feet!" He picks up a handful of ball bearings off the ground."Fine, I'll do it!" He walks over to the west wall and, from about 20 ft away, chucks the ball bearings through the doorway.
(The secret door is closed - both Butter and Seth shut it after peeking through. They both were transfixed briefly by the view to their left. If Peri wants to throw ball bearings through, he'll need to open it first.)
Peri sees a worked stone corridor leading a few feet to the left before dropping away off a crumbling ledge into a vast cavern, lit by pools of bubbling lava hundreds of feet below you. Giant red bat-like creatures silently wheel about in the dim light. One makes eye-contact with you.
Throwing the ball bearings over the edge, you hear the ball bearings strike something, and then something else - the unmistakeable sound of balls dropping down stairs. It's an illusion. No cavern, no lava, no bats. You suddenly realize you can see right through it. The corridor ends in a steep set of stairs leading down and to the right. Torchlight flickers ahead somewhere, around the corner.
Standing in the doorway he calls loudly into the bunkroom, "Holy-! That's one big cave! You're right; no way he's gettin' down there without flyin'. We'll have to find the entrance from the sea. Leave a few guardsmen here in case they come back, and the rest of you come with me, back to town." Then he makes a shushing gesture and quietly sneaks back to Qivys and Seth. Whispering, "You were right; it's an illusion. There's a set of stairs that head down and then turn to the right. That's all I can see from the doorway. We should sneak down and see if we can take them by surprise. But that means that sot," pointing to Butter, "needs to stay back."
Butter returns a wounded-innocent-child look to Peri.
Seth says, "You want to sneak? Sneak. I'm not a sneaker. But I can be patient. Be my guest. But report back. Then I'll cut them in two like big bugs!" He swings his sword in the air through an imaginary smuggler.
Missy tilts her head curiously. "Isn't the point of sneaking to surprise them? In which case the fight would be done down there and we'd only be reporting back that they were all dead? Wouldn't be anyone to cut in two like a bug then."
"Yondalla save us from heroes and fools," he mutters. "Go ahead then, but if you're not going to be quiet then you've gotta be fast. I'll be right behind you."
Excited to get a look at this rather extravagant sounding illusion Missy follows closely on Seths heels. She gives a low whistle when she sees the cave.
"That's some magic!" She exclaims in a hushed voice, eyes wide.

You follow Seth, who struts through the secret door before pausing at the crumbling precipice of the vast cavern. Ignoring the threatening, beady-eyed stares of the giant bats, he gingerly tests his foot on the invisible foothold on the other side, and as he does so the scene becomes transparent, like a projection. He straights up and continues marching, Farley at his side, Missy right behind him. Butter walks behind Farley, clearly wobbly on his feet. Peri and Qivys are next, and Dwal brings up the rear.
They march down the steep stairs and around the corner, and down another short set of stairs. The worked stone walls give way to natural stone cavern walls. The passage forks - the path east (your left) is lit by torches set in crude brackets on the walls, the path to your right (west) is dark. The walls are slimy and the floors moist.
As Seth and Farley reach the bottom step, Farley snags his foot on a hidden trip wire, followed instantly by the sound of a pair of heavy crossbows crudely rigged along the cavern walls in both directions, firing in your direction.
Crossbow 1 fires at Seth's position. Attack: 9 Piercing damage: 5 – hit Crossbow 2 fires at Farley's position. Attack: 16 Piercing damage: 10 – hit
Both are seriously wounded by the triggered bolts.

Dwal
Seeing this Dwal will say: "Pull back to the other room. I can heal but we need to take a defensive position so I can."
Dwal will help as much as he can to get the wounded back to the room they just left. He has 1 1st. level spell left and will cast Cure Light Wounds on Seth.
"I will need to rest before I can cast any healing again."

Peri:
While Dwal and the other Big Folk pull their injured comrades back, Peri will study the tripwire and triggering mechanism of the trap, so he will know what to look for if Sanbalet has set more in front of them. If possible he will turn the crossbows to point down the darkened corridor and then set the tripwire a few feet down that corridor. He will then back up to the bend in the steps and attempt to hide Stealth18 and keep watch for anyone coming up toward them.

(I didn't realize the door was closed. Peri will open the door and throw the ball bearings through it.)

Dwal
Dwal eyes Seth with a bit of sympathy.
"Poor lad thinks he can conquer the world." Dwal thinks to himself.
Dwal looks to his companions and waits for a few moments before acting.
Missy
Missy tilts her head curiously. "Isn't the point of sneaking to surprise them? In which case the fight would be done down there and we'd only be reporting back that they were all dead? Wouldn't be anyone to cut in two like a bug then."
Seth chuckles. Then he pauses, then sighs. "Yeah, no sneaking. Let's just go kill them."
His confidence back in full force, he strides toward the secret door. "Butter! Farley! Missy! Let's go" he barks quietly, his feathered plume bobbing.
(Are you following? If so, what's your marching order?)
Dwal
Dwal will bring up the rear, letting the "Great Army" of smuggler enders in front. (:P)
