I'm right here! You tall folk are half blind, I swear...
He emerges from the undergrowth and joins the others in their wide path around the village. He'd always enjoyed forests, but this one was unnaturally still. Even in the dead of winter there should be some birds foraging, and at least a squirrel or two retrieving hidden nuts. But nothing stirred in the gloom. He gave a small shiver as the cold seemed to creep in through his warm clothes.
When they come across the tracks, he asks Boko, "Think these are our lost kids? I'd've thought they'd be far enough ahead that the snow would cover their tracks, but nothing in these woods feels right."
Bokofox finishes her scouting and moves to the north of the settlement. She tries to find the party again, and shifts back once she’s in sight, and then gives a quick report of what she found. She looks at the tracks and tries to piece together what happened and if she recognizes the tracks.
After careful examination, Boko can tease out a few things from these tracks. It seems to be a pursuit, probably less than an hour ago. One normal-sized humanoid and one small humanoid were chasing a third, normal-sized humanoid. At least two of them were bleeding – both chaser and prey. One seems like human blood, the other something similar, and yet different – something a little less wholesome.
”How fresh are these tracks, Mistress Boko? Could they have come from the settlement we saw?” asks Gerrard, hoping they might have found the trail of one of the lost Saltmarsh children. “Let us make haste,” he adds, anxious to catch up to a potential victim.

Peri:
Peri, too, is hopeful this is the trail of the lost children. "Aye, better we catch 'em up here than in Castle Deathmage. Be ready for an ambush, though. If we're ridin' hard they'll hear us comin', especially in this dead wood."He will ride close behind whoever leads, keeping an eye out for danger as they ride. ((Perception = 26; second roll if we're at a Disadvantage for moving fast: 22)
Qivys shakes his head. "It ain't those kids." he says. "If'n anyone its tha old woman and she's runnin' from something foul. Maybe like tha little girl tha was attracted ta Kei."
Peri's sharp eyes catch a very subtle movement - the fall of a single dead leaf from a tree. A young boy with an eight-foot spear stuck clear through his chest glares down at you from a hiding spot in the tree, twenty feet above. Nearby, hidden equally well (stealth rolls 22 and 23) is an older man with serious, bloody gashes carved through his well-weathered leather armor. They both are frozen in stances that feel predatory.
The boy drops from above... onto Gerrard. His mouth agape as he falls, the stake impaling him floating free for a moment in the cold air.
The boy plummets down 20' from the tree, a spear clear through the right side of his chest. He is about to land upon Gerrard, who is mounted upon Erik. (The rest of the party is also mounted.)
The older man comes out from hiding from behind a stump, some twenty feet away from the party.
Boko looks up at the boy, whirls around at Gerrard and casts Protection from Evil and Good on him. She then does a low backflip off her saddle (more of a roll if we’re being honest, it’s been a while since she’s trained like that) and lands, rushing up to the old man coming out of hiding. She give a feral grin which widens and widens and she wildshapes into a polar bear, paws lightly tinged with blue markings.
