A resounding bestial laugh echoes down the beach as the Peryton wings begin to erratically move. Swiftly the beast plummets around thirty feet into the rowboat beneath it. You hear a loud thunk. Due to the amount of dwarf and human blood coating the Peryton you can't quite tell how badly injured the beast is, though you assume the sudden impact against the wooden rowboat would not have been pleasant for it.
Noria stands up and jumps out of her rowboat into the calm water, easily keeping her balance as her legs plunge into the shallow ocean and reach wet shifting sand.
Noria and Julark appear to have heeded your call to retreat. As you run down the beach next to Julark you hear him wheezily mutter, "You don't need to tell me twice! Obviously that thing has some sort of unnatural protection, did you see all those bolts it took? Obviously your magic was effective, what if we tried to damage it with something less ordinary?"
You look back, and too your horror the Peryton has stopped laughing and has risen from the rowboat. The fall most likely disrupted your hold over the creature. With a few limping steps down the length of the rowboat it once again vaults into the air and releases a blood curdling shriek. With the three of you running across the open sand with little cover, you have no doubt that the monster still sees you.
You focus returns ahead towards the small cave. By now you appear to be less than fifty feet away. From this distance it is now apparent that there is a cloaked figure with deep blue skin that you spot off to the side of the cave mouth.
Gulin Runehammer and Julark are 45 feet from the cave, Noria is further behind and 80 feet away. If the Peryton follows Gulin Runehammer , Julark, and Khelnes Balnurath will likely have two rounds to prepare what they will do next. Any such preparations can be done in a single post or multiple posts.
The elderly halfling gives Angus McTavin a piercing glance, "No need to be rude, you were the one who called upon my services and have failed to pay!"
Reaching into his furs, Ferrin removes a single piece of parchment which he hands over to Angus. Given the scribbles across the page it is evident that this particular piece of paper has been written upon multiple times. It appears that Ferrin has used a dark flaky coal or chalk to write upon the sheet of paper. You study it for a few seconds before the barely legible handwriting begins to make sense."
Upon the sheet of tattered paper the following items are listed: three crates of olive oil, five bunches of Gripweed, a bushel of Bloodkeep stalks, root of Anskerus, and the flower leaves from a freshly preserved Cinderpetal.
Caspia Aspergina Nature Roll: 10
You obviously know what olive oil is, and that it is often used by herbalists to boil their concoctions. You recognize some of the names on the list, such as gripweed and bloodkeep which are both rather common across the continent of flanaess, however, you are unsure where one would find either in this region. From what limited background knowledge you have you are able to deduce that this list may be ordered from the most common to the rarest item requested by Ferrin.
Angus McTavin Nature Roll: 16
You recognize every item on the list apart from Cinderpetal. You are also already are formulating leads within your mind on where these items could be obtained. Even though your knowledge of Saltmarsh is limited outside of the Temple of Procan and the local drinking establishments, you are not a crazy recluse. Olive oil needs no introduction and could probably be purchased from a vendor in Saltmarsh such as Winston's store or one of the merchants in the Green Market. Similarly Gripweed is likely to be easily obtained. You have seen Bloodkeep growing along the coastal cliffs lining the shores just barely outside of the town. Anskerus is a large bush that grows deep within tropical forests. It might be dangerous, but with some planning an expedition could be mounted into one of the nearby forests. As for Cinderpetal, you have no clue what it is nor any inkling where one could find some.
"I will help you find these items if I can in gratitude for your help, but I would also like to know where you found me and what knowledge you may have about the ship I was on and it's crew. Where would we go in this town to get some of these items?"

Gulin glances up at the blue-skinned figure in the cave, before dismissing him as a future-Gulin problem. The Peryton will be at his doorstep in a moment regardless of what the cavedweller chooses now.
Turning back with a calculating eye, Gulin realizes poor Noria doesn't stand a chance to make it unless they do something. Steeling his resolve, he nods at Julark. "Fighting retreat."
He then wildly waves his hands, bellowing at the Peryton. "OY! DID YE LIKE MY JOKE, YA WEE-HORNED FLYING BEACHRAT? I GOT MORE FOR YA!"
As he finishes his taunt, he stretches out his left hand, coalescing energy into a bright orange lance of fire energy.

I cannot watch this any longer after seeing another casualty. I also feel pressured by the battle encroaching upon my cave. I cautiously peer out the cave. Wildly waving my arms in the air, I recite the incantation to produce a sacred flame in the sky. I hold it in preparation for the approaching Peryton.

Julark exclaims, "I'm not sure what that blue thing ahead of us is, but appears to be preparing to help! Let's try to buy Noria a little time, I'm not sure if she could make it on her own!" The dwarf plants his feet firmly in the sand and lets loose a crossbow bolt. He then continues to move towards the cave having adopted a fighting retreat, reloading his crossbow for the next volley. The two of you are now almost to the cave. Meanwhile Noria has entered a dead sprint, literally running for her life. She has covered well over two thirds of the distance to the cave.
A very small bolt of fire erupts for Gulin's hands towards the Peryton. The dwarf has apparently been compensating for something with his large hammer. Having just taken flight the creature is unable to dodge the firebolt in time, and it hits it squarely in the chest. A patch of blood sizzles of the beast. The crossbow bolt meanwhile sails wide, harmlessly splashing into the Azure Sea, almost 100 feet behind the creature. The Peryton barely notices the small flame and arcs down the beach violently flapping it's wings and picking up incredible speed. As it is flying forward a flame like radiance descends down from the heavens, but the Peryton easily bats its wings and circles out of the way. It quickly closes the distance to Noria and is soon directly overhead of her. The monster's blood stained talons appear ready to strike if she makes a false move.
Khelnes Bahlnurath having taken action in the defense of others against a monster starts to feel the Ki-rin's full divine power return and coarse through his body.
Khelnes Bahlnurath: at the cave entrance.

Gulin, showing a flash of anger at his last firebolt, shouts. "Hit it with all you've got! Noria, WATCH OUT!"

Steve, I don't know if I need to do a roll here to convince?
"Lady, I apologise. We have not yet been properly introduced. My name is Angus. I will take you to the beach where I found you, and the remnants of your ship, and we can discuss that night. Whilst we are there, we might see if we can find some Bloodkeep growing upon the cliffs"
Andrew, you'd roll a persuasion roll if you were trying to modify the terms, e.g. "this list seems rather long, perhaps not only should my debts be cleared but there should be additional compensation." or "you know as well as I do that Anskerus only grows deep in the forest, retrieving Anskerus is dangerous. Would it be acceptable if I were to provide all of the items on the list apart from the Anskerus?"
You can still make a request like the above, or anything else you had in mind. Either edit your last post and add the appropriate roll (I'll modify below accordingly) or you can approach Ferrin and ask him later. Also, now that I am starting to reference many of the places in the village, you two will probably want to try to obtain a map.
Caspia Aspergina and Angus McTavin:
"Cinderpetal is a beautiful flower with wavy bright red and orange petals. The petals shimmer when light hits it giving off the appearance of liquid fire dancing across the petals surface. The leaves themselves are a rather unremarkable green. Fresh cinderpetal leaves are the key ingredient for my burn ointments. However, if a Cinderpetal is removed from the ground and the leaves aren't preserved correctly, the leaves quickly wilt and disintegrate and are of no value. Cinderpetal is prized among both the local herbalists and alchemists, though I doubt any of the local herbalists are skilled enough to correctly preserve one. I do not know where replacement Cinderpetal leaves could be acquired at this time, hence the majority of your 300 gold tab. Perhaps one of the charlatans down at the Green Market may have a lead."
"Now I must return to my shrine, I have been gone too long," a note of sorrow enters the old Halfling's voice. "The shrine is in the small patch of forest just northwest of the Temple of Procan along the Kingfisher River." And with that Ferrin leaves Angus' home, hunched over and moving slowly. There is a bit of sadness to his gait.
Do you two wish to still venture down to the beach where Caspia was found washed ashore?

Angus leads Caspia down to the to a handful of buildings built along the shores of a secluded bay known as Crabber's Cove. The buildings are weathered, apparently abandoned by the residents of Saltmarsh years ago. Various crustaceans have taken up residence in the wretched ruins. You see a hundred tiny eyes looking back towards you from the shadows. You head slightly past the buildings to a small outcropping of beach. The remains of the abandoned buildings now lie directly to your west. To your east is a sheer cliff face. Angus brings Caspia over to the burnt ship plank which reads “inning Merfol.”

A wave of fire erupts from Gulin's hands and engulfs the Peryton. A loud human like shriek erupts from the bird as it attempts to use the force from its wings to brush the fire off itself, but the flames linger and eat at the edges of its feathers. Even from the cave you can see that the creature is badly burned and wounded. Eldritch energy gathers around Khelnes who is beginning to glow a slight yellow light. With his command it leaps forth from his outstretched arms towards the Peryton. The Peryton's eyes go wide, it appears the creature is shuddering with fear. Unfortunately the blast of energy misses by the tiniest of margins, further singing the beasts now exposed skin. Julark readies his crossbow, and fires.
Julark's crossbow solidly hits the Peryton in the middle of its chest, blood begins to gush down on Noria. Noria sensing that she is cornered drops her crossbow to the ground, retrieves her round metal shield from its perch on her back, and prepares to dodge the Peryton's next series of blows.
Peryton Rolls: Hidden
The monster lunges towards Noria with its beak, Noria deftly raises her shield to deflect the beast. The impact of the Peryton hitting her shield knocks both of them to the ground. The Peryton stands up over Noria and slashes her with its talons. You watch as Noria's head lulls off to the side, blood gushing from her pinned arms. The Peryton lets loose squawk as it lords of its defenseless prey. As it readies for another attack, you three of you in the cave realize that this may be your last chance to save Noria.
