Abraxas hands everyone two of the ogre summoning scrolls and gives one to Mro Jus Bir. He sits with Simeon and the others and begins looking at the remaining scrolls. The clasp he will examine later.
OOC: The shortswords look as good as anything you can buy in a store and don't have a lot of wear and tear, but nothing remarkable about them.
Added two scrolls of ogre summoning to each character's inventory.
"I cannot say," Mro Jus Bir answers Simeon, "But I do question how they would get in their otherwise, yes?"
The remaining scrolls are easy for Abraxas and Simeon to deduce, but it takes the rest of the hour to properly learn the words to activate them. In a similar manner, an action can be spent to activate one of these scrolls, which will summon a spectral owlbear to the reader's side, which will follow their orders until its hit points run out or a minute passes, whichever is sooner.
Room Description:
All that stands within this 20-foot-square room, aside from the door you entered through, is a closed door on the right hand wall.
"Thirty-two owl bears," Abraxas says. "Not a small number. And this all in a chest almost in the entry way to this place? Perhaps rather than being abandoned, these things are the watch's preparation to explore here?" He consults his memory, but doesn't look like he recalls. "Was the chimaera facing us as we came in or was it facingTurmaether? In other words, was it protecting this place from the outside or was it protecting the outside from Turmaether?"
He looks towards the closed door on the right side of the room.

"Eight owlbear scrolls for each then,"comments Simeon as he places his share in his pack.
He then approaches the door on the right hand wall, looking it over for anything suspicious. "Grant me guidance," he utters softly under his breath. (Investigation: 20 + 2)
If all seems well, Simeon leads the group to what lies ahead.
OOC: Added 8 scrolls of owlbear summoning to each character's inventory.
Giving the exit door a thorough examination, Simeon opens the door for the party to continue into another narrow hallway. The ceiling of this hall is larger now, towering almost 20 feet above. The hall continues to ascend, turning to the right before coming to another closed door.
An aromatic scent hits your noses as the door opens. Inside, it's as if you've stepped into another world entirely. Beneath the ozone smell is a burning incense, and the 15-foot-walled room is laid out with rich carpets and tapestries that stretch twenty feet high to the ceiling. In the center of the room is a long table; at one side, an old human lady sits atop a cushion, and another cushion rests at the opposite side. The only other exit to the room is a door on the right side wall.
The woman smiles and straightens her long, light brown hair. "Welcome to Turmaether, my darlings. If you have passed the tests to get to me, you must be quite the team. Most get turned away at the gate by my chimera, and those that get around him often do not have the knowledge necessary to make it here," she says.
She straightens the table, and sets a tiled board upon its surface, laying out pieces in every other square. "This is my favorite test," she beams, "The rules are simple. Choose one among you to play a game of checkers with me. They should be very smart; I am quite old, after all, and very few that enter these halls have beaten me. If you win, you may pass through, and you will get a reward for doing so. If you lose, you feed my hunger."
She smiles and looks at the party patiently, awaiting a decision.
"Ahem. Well. Alright, if I must," Abraxas says. He'll pull out a chair at the table and sit, watching her thoughtfully. "What exactly are the rules? Are we playing by Queen Hatasu's formulation or something closer to latrunculi?"
The old woman makes an intrigued noise, rubbing her hands together excitedly and looking over the board as if planning her moves. "It has been so long since I have had a challenge...I'll allow you to choose which method we play," she says.
"But, how rude it would be to play without at least a proper introduction. I am Akiko. May I have your name, child?"
OOC: When Abraxas is ready to begin, make an Intelligence check. This will be a competing Intelligence check to determine who wins.

Simeon reads the situation, hoping he'll be able to grant Abraxas an edge, for the warning about the old woman is still fresh in the wood elf's mind. He does his best to discreetly utter the words to the enhance ability transmutation as he places his hand upon Abraxas. Simeon then says, "May you have the Fox's cunning, friend."

"I am Abraxas Onassis," Abraxas says. "Charmed." He is happy for the support from both Simeon and Garu. "The good Queen Hatasu's formulation is the more ancient. Let's go with that." Abraxas pats his hands on his thighs as he looks over the board. "Well, then. Shall we?"

"Spectral ogres," muses Simeon. "Potent allies."
In response to Mro Jus Bir's remark about the clasps, he says, "May we assume the the clasps were not surrendered willingly by the guards?"
Simeon then looks to Harmony. "Learning that the nine may be very helpful causes me to think the other thirty two might be as well."
Unless anyone objects, Simeon sits on the floor and attempts to decipher one of the thirty-two scrolls.
