Brox is silent. Her head turns quickly from side to side. She is trying to follow the conversation, but people speak quickly and over each other. She does understand that someone is summoning oozes.
Then her eyes turn inwards and with a rush of adrenalin, her vision comes back to here - the same vision she had not long ago and which brought her to go into the underdark in the first place: A deep gnome, covered in green and purple ooze is sitting on a makeshift throne in a large spherical hall. To his left is a gray ooze, and to his right a black pudding. These are his royal children, as he calls them. Princecess Ebonmire, and Prince Livid.
Then, there is another feeling. A strong one, an evil one. He serves the demon lord Juiblex!
Then more and more pictures enter Brox's mind. The Pudding King is calling oozes from afar to take Blingdenstone for him.
Brox tries to focus on the surrounding area, on anything that might aid them in an attack:The area is suffused with Faezress, a magical substance that can imbue madness on creatures that spend time or cast spells there. A green slime moulded to the walls, is dripping down acid. It's a dangerous location. It seems clear that the king is not harmed by the acid or poison that surrounds him.
Tired, Brox sinks back into her chair. She is sitting in silence, but she can feel the adrenaline rising and the parties getting agitated. Then she sees Belwar's mouth move. When she realises, that he wants to take on the king alone, she lifts her hand up into the air, then rises to her full height. When she is sure, that everyone's eyes are on her, she speaks. About the vision, about the Faezress - that might make casting spells impossible, about the acidic green slime.
This final revelation from Brox sends the council into a frenzy. A demon lord's thrall? Here in Blingdenstone? The situation is dire indeed. They agree to set up a staging ground in the temple of Steadfast Stone. Jimjar, Derendil, and Eldeth disperse to assist the deep gnomes in various tasks as they prepare for the fight. Jimjar and Kazook head off to talk about explosives and rock excavation. Derendil wishes to avoid the fighting, but agrees to help with some of the heavy lifting. Eldeth joins the guard and starts prepping weapons and supplies for the troops. Meanwhile, Nomi Pathshutter returns. "We have the scroll. I've assembled a small force of elementalists and soldiers to guide you to Ogremach's Bane in the Rockblight."
She hands the scroll to Belwar, who examines it. It is indeed a spell scroll of banishment. Brox offers her assistance in performing the ritual to cast the spell, having some divine knowledge imparted to her by Silvanus, and Grimnir offers guidance through his unique connection to the fungi of the Underdark. Scroll in hand, Oorr leads the group, along with Nomi and her guard out of the council room.
You pass by groups of deep gnomes preparing for battle. Suiting up in makeshift armor, handing out weapons, and moving barricades. You follow the same path to the Rockblight you took before, passing through a cleared hallway and through a ruined area of the old town. You find once more the Temple of Steadfast Stone, which you cleared out only yesterday. A different group of svirfvneblin have begun setting up the temple for defense where you'll make your stand later. Nomi leads you away, back towards the cavern where you last remembered seeing Ogremach's Bane. "Our people have been watching. It has not moved from the location you last saw it. Holed up in there with all of those statues. We have not pressed the attack, but you have our full support." She steps back, allowing you to take the lead.
As you step into the cavern, you see statues of drow lined up in rows. There are five rows of six statues. Each one is posed in a look of horror, most attempting to cover their faces. It seems this was some sort of trophy room for the medusa. Behind the statues, a hazy green mist hovers at the top of the cavern. It moves listlessly across the ceiling. As you approach, tendrils of the mist seep down into the first row of statues in front of you. The statues begin to tremble, bits of rock and dust trailing down from the joints as they being to crack and move. Deep Gnome guard and elementalists move forward to defend you, engaging the statues. "Do it!" shouts Nomi to Belwar. "It's now or never!"
(OOG Belwar please give me an Intelligence Check with Advantage from Brox, and Guidance from Grimnir)
I glance at the scroll and immediately see how to cast the spell, which I do before Grimnir or Brox can do anything relevant. The power stored in the scroll wells up inside me and flows out, washing away Ogremoch's Bane like a flash flood demolishing a picket fence.
Belwar begins reciting the incantation on the scroll. Brox begins praying, as the stone statues come to life and attack. They are kept at bay by the deep gnomes for now. In mere moments, Belwar finishes the recitation and the spell scroll flares in a bright purple light before turning to dust in his hands. A creaking, groaning noise is heard through the cavern as a ripple passes through the green mist of Ogremach's Bane.
DC 15 Charisma Check: 7
As the ripple of light pierces the mist, the noise in the cavern intensifies. Spots of light begin appearing in the mist burning away the green. The noise now sounds almost like a scream as the mist, now torn in pieces by the light is reduced to nothing. With a final burst of light, the green mist is banished, and the cavern falls immediately silent. The statues stop moving. A moment passes, and then a cheer arises from the deep gnome soldiers.
"It worked! It actually worked! You are mighty powerful wizard indeed, Belwar Gemfinder. Three cheers for the Banishers of the Bane! Hip-hip.."shouts Nomi, and the soldiers give a resounding 'Hooray!' They repeat the chant two more times, then begin retreating out of the cavern. They guide the party back to the Steadfast Stone, carrying Belwar on the shoulders.
As agreed, the forces gather at the Temple of Steadfast Stone (Area 22). In the center of the temple is the statue of former compansion, Valrish, brought here, by the temple priests. The Galeb Duhr protectors which you released earlier have moved to a defensive position in the West. Kazook Pickshine and Jimjar are finishing placing the charges to blow up the blocked hallway, with Derendil and the miner's guild standing by to clear the debris after the blast. Gurnik Tapfinger has gone to Entemoch's Boon, with promises of sending an enhanced Earth Elemental to assist you. Nomi Pathshutter and her acolytes have summoned some minor earth elementals to assist as the front line of the attack. Meanwhile Eldeth and the Diggermattocks stand with a small contingent of deep gnomes to provide ranged and melee support. On Senni's signal, The area to the west is cleared of people, and Kazook sets off the explosives.
BOOM!
Dust fills the air as the rubble is blown outward. When the air clears, you see a dimly lit hallway beyond. Several dancing lights and torches are thrown that direction, as the miners rush to clear the floor. In the next hallway you see a glistening sheen cover the walls, and dozens of oozes slowly gliding around the caverns. You see translucent cubes with skeletons in them, gray oozes crawling across the slick ground, yellow blobs dripping from the ceiling, and green slime covering every perceivable service. Dorbo Diggermattock shouts, "For Blingdenstone!"and the battle begins.
Elementals and their controllers rush forward, sweeping clear the first line of oozes. Arrows and spells are launched from the back in support, and the Four Furious Fighting Fools charge into the fray.
With a path being cleared for you, you ignore the first line of oozes that the elementals take out. Ooze and gnome blend together as the army pushes West. A few of the oozes slip through, and you find yourselves confronted by 3 gray oozes and 1 ochre jelly. You waste no time attacking the oncoming oozes. Grimnir takes out one quickly. With a slash of his sword and slam of his fist, he turns one of the gray oozes to liquid. Oorr and Zippy sink bolt and fang into another gray ooze, causing it serious damage. The crossbow bolt dissolves inside the acidic slime. Belwar focuses on the Ochre Jelly hanging from the ceiling, blackening it with a patch of fire.
The oozes return your attacks, reaching out with globby tendrils. The first gray ooze stays in melee with Zippy, while the third gray ooze moves to attack Grimnir. The Ochre Jelly moves slowly down the wall within range of Brox.
Brox and Grimnir nimbly dodge out of the way, avoiding the acidic arms of the oozes. Zippy, however, is caught off guard, and takes a solid hit to his abdomen. Acid from the attack begins to corrode the chain shirt barding that covers the Steeder. As it seeps through, the steeder cannot withstand the pain, and falls unconscious.
