Builder: You also find time to go wandering during the day while Plugg and Scourge aren't looking. In the mid afternoon you take a tour of the mid-deck and find Owlbear Heartshorn dozing against his pole that he is perpetually chained to. As he is sleeping, you decide to take some time to investigate the middle deck further. After a fairly through search you locate a money pouch someone had squirrelled away between the buckets of oil. It contains quite a prize!
You find 29 gold coins and a somewhat small chipped ruby. Despite its size and condition it may still be worth some money.

If Kroop is insensibly drunk the cook's mate must make the day's meal for the pirates by herself, in addition to her normal duties for the day (listed below). In that instance, all checks for the day are made at disadvantage and the Cook's Mate is too busy to perform any daytime actions.
With Kroop being nearly unconcious in the corner, you find you do not have any time to pull yourself away from the kitchen during the day. The cookbook helps you make a good meal for the crew, but it is all you can do to get everything prepped in time to excuse yourself for bloody hour.
You don't get a daytime action today...sorry.

Builder considers the small pouch of coins, then stuffs it into one of the compartments on his frame. He knows that there is some use of these funds, and will have to check to see what the small gemstone will sell for. He decides to get back to work, not wishing to cause anyone to have a reason to think him slacking off, even if this running of messages seemed foolish for one of his skills to be doing.
As the day comes to a close, Plugg announces at Bloody Hour that he is impressed with the work everyone has done, and clearly previous demonstrations have finally begun to mold them into an acceptable crew. As such, there will be no punishments tonight as a treat.
After the meal, the crew begins to set up for evening entertainments, but Plugg again interceeds. "It has been a hot couple of days...I think we need something to blow of some steam. Let's take Owlbear out for a stretch shall we?"
A couple of the crew members shout in encouragement, and Plugg walks over and unhooks the chains wrapped around the mast from Owlbear's manacles. Dragging him by a shorter leash attached to one arm, he brings him to the middle of the mid-deck. "One bout with Owlbear! What do you say!" Plugg eyes the half-elf Varus in particular. "You look like you've seen a scrape or two. How about it? A bit of sport? Bare knuckles and wrestling only...no magic tricks, no help from friends. Just you and my friend here. I'll put 100 gold against your 25 that Owlbear can take you down."
The crew grows more interested now at the idea that their might be betting to be had. Several run below decks to get their money pouches to lay bets. "I've got 5 on the strong pointy ears!""I'll put 10 down on ol' crab eater!"
Plugg redoubles his offer. "That bet goes for any of you of course, if the 'ittle half-breed is scared of a big tall human."
Owlbear for his part seems generally confused about what is happening, and begins to hum a little song to himself while picking at some dirt under one of his nails.
(Plugg is specifically looking for PC to brawl with Owlbear, any of you can step up...but I had him pick on the one that is the most muscular looking. Fisticuffs and wrestling, no weapons, no magic. The rest of the PCs that are not actively in the fight are welcome to bet on either one coming out as the victor.)
Seeing this develop, Sandara mutters to herself and grasps the skull and crossbones that is her holy symbol, apparently expecting to need to use it before the evening is done.

Sandara shrugs, her frustration seeming to come off her in waves. "Haven't seen it happen during my time on the ship...but remember, I've only been here a few more days than you. I suspect Grok or Fishguts could tell you better. All I know is someone's gonna get hurt, and then I will probably have to fix it."

It does not seem logical to Builder to bet money on a possible outcome, so he does not join the wagering group. He waits to the side to watch, and to help with healing if it comes to that.

Last Time on Skull & Shackles:
Our heroes found themselves pressganged into the crew of the Wormwood, a Pirate ship commanded by Captain Barnabas Harrigan. They spent the first 5 days out at sea making an nearly equal number of friends and enemies. Most notable on the top of the latter list are Mister Plugg and Master Scourge, first mate and master at arms respectively who seem to have taking a particular distaste to the PCs and have spent the better part of the week making their experience wholely unbearable. Making the cruising experience more palatable though has been Sandara Quinn, a fellow pressganged crewmember and Cleric of Besmara who has helped soothe away the worst of the aches that Mister Plugg and the Wormwood's foul rum has foisted upon the PCs.
When last we left our heroes, Plugg had challenged the crew to a boxing match with Owlbear, the simpleton brute that spends most days chained to the mast in the middlehold. Plugg offers 100 gold against a combatants 25 as stakes for the match. He singled out Varus in particular as the most likely to accept the challenge.
Varus stands up, studying Owlbear before bringing out his coin pouch and placing it somewhere visible, "Let's have at it, then."
Varus, make an insight check as you study Owlbear to see if you can glean anything about him. Then let's roll initiative and start the fisticuffs.
The crew circles around the two combatants, cheering and jeering in equal number as Sandara watches from the side frowning with her holy symbol at the ready. Several crew members have set up side bets for the event. Owlbear seems entirely unaware that anything is amiss and looks about the circle with a dopey grin on his face...clapping at all of his friends circled around him.
Owlbear Initiative: 18
Regardless of outcome of the initiative roll Varus gets a surprise round because Owlbear does not appear to be aware that he is in a fight at all.

Gonna reroll them so I can see the result and respond tonight for the next time you are online.
Varus Insight: 13
Varus Initiative: 3
----------
Varus: With that roll you beat the DC 10: As you watch Owlbear turning and viewing the crowd oblivious of your presence, you notice that he is exclusively turning to his left and seems unstable or uncertain as he moves his left foot. As he comes around to face you, you see why. He left eye is a cloud of milky white behind a scarred brow. He is clearly blind in his left eye.
Blind-Sided: Owlbear is blind in one eye. Perhaps this is a recent occurrence or he is just too dull because he does not appear to have adjusted to this reality. Attack rolls intentionally made to his left side have advantage. Combatants that attempt to stay in his blind spot subject him to disadvantage on any attack rolls against them. (Note: There is no action necessary to do this in a one on one battle.)
With that initiative roll you will be going second...but since he is not aware you are fighting yet you gain the first action anyways. If you had beaten his initiative you would have gotten a double first move advantage, but having already found his Boss Fight weak spot maybe you won't need that. ;)
Owlbear's head jerks to the side, accepting the blow as a thin stream of blood trickles out of his cauliflowered ear. His eyes widen as his mouth splits into a gap-toothed grin.
"Play!"
With a shout, he sends an arm swinging back to his left side like a hefty club.
Owlbear's head jerks to the side again as Varus's haymaker connects with his chin. Blood and spittle fly a good distance to the feet of the encircling crew members.
"You rough play! Fun!"
He raises his arms up double over his head and brings them down in a hammer motion on top of Varus's skull and shoulders.
Action: Reckless Attack Punch
Attack: 7 Damage: 6
But the blow slides off of his back easily, failing to impart the full impact.
Meanwhile to the side, Plugg seems disappointed with the progression of the fight. He murmurs something to Scourge, who walks away for a moment and returns with a craftsman's hammer (read light hammer) used to make repairs to the hull. It looks like they might be planning on introducing it to the fight next round.

Varus feels a bit concerned that the captain seems confident in Owlbear's win despite the eye, and so decides to take full advantage.
Moving to the side, he grits his teeth and begins to rage as he swings for the unseeing side of the other man's head.
Attack: 24 Damage: 6
Owlbear's head jerks to the side, accepting the blow as a thin stream of blood trickles out of his cauliflowered ear. His eyes widen as his mouth splits into a gap-toothed grin.

Varus, noticing the weapon, decides to take Owlbear head on, attacking from the fore front.
Attack: 8 Damage: 6
As Owlbear steps back to avoid your punch, Plugg gives a low whistle and tosses the hammer to him.
BA: Dex to Catch: 19
With a surprisingly dexterous move the large man catches the hammer in his right hand.
"Play toy? Play!"
And then he swings the hammer towards Varus's temple.
Attack: 21 Damage: 8
But Varus narrowly manages to dodge the blow.
