(Wilson, giving you a count down timer of 24 hours to say if you buy anything. Otherwise I assume you did not.)
Lafetha: You get a set of overalls, shirt, shoes. They don't fit particularly well, just a off the rack item designed to be tossed on any body size. And they give you a hammock set with a few hooks for it to be placed up between some trees. (3 Gold) Abigail: You purchase two other tins of the lizard oil. (4 gold)
The crew, having changed and gotten themselves ready, head out of the K7 Outpost. Lafetha and Sim take up the front, their familiar situation of trying to find a proper path and tracks. A few sunken spots in the swamp give away the direction that whatever this large thing that was here came from. The trees and branches aren't disturbed; simply the impression on the ground. You do notice that it's gait is quite long; able to cover a large amount of ground quickly and seemingly easy. Morgan sits in the middle, with Wilson and Abigail taking up the rear as they travel together.
One thing Lafetha notices; they aren't pulling or carrying any kind of cart. And while the giant-footprints are the easiest to follow, a few other smaller footsteps are around as well. But their obscured by the swamp; unable to tell exactly how many.
An hour passes, a few birds chirping and things crawling around as you all keep moving. The constant squish squish of your feet pressing into ground that is constantly soaked ringing in your ears as you travel. It makes stealth tricky; a curse and a boon for everyone. Ahead of you is a rather large bog. The tracks seem to stop, and get jumbled. Several other sets of tracks nearby that are different. Off in the distance, there's a light chuffing sound that rings out. You all glance, but don't see anything. A few crocodiles slip out of the bog and into the light amounts of brush.
What do you do?
(Things you can try. Investigation to get an idea of what happened. Nature to figure out information on the sounds and tracks. Survival to see where they lead. Welcome to try other things too. Perception or some other skill you may have. You can roll 1 skill. If you roll more than 1, I'm using the lowest you rolled.)
Morgan, annoyed and hating the clammy swamp air, asks why the group stopped. They take a look around, no signs of immediate danger. A quick glance between Wilson and Morgan as they look in different directions and keep alert to the area. Off in the distance, a bit clockwise from where Morgan and company are along the bog, they do notice a bit of smoke. Not like a forest fire or anything major. More akin to what a chimney would produce.
Lafetha stops for a second. Listening to the chuffing sound. She's not entirely sure what creature is producing it. It's a reptile-ish sound. Non-threatening. But the distance and the echo leave too many possibilities going through her head. Glancing down, she runs her hand over the tracks that are fading into the ground. Three different creatures were here. There's the faint remnants of the giant's footprint. A few crocodile marks that are fresh, to no surprise. Roughly along the shore are a set of other tracks. Both equal in size to the giant footprints. One, a smaller brontosaurus style creature. Or perhaps a young one, not yet it's full size. The other, a hydra. A dangerous and viscous multi-headed serpent that's as dangerous in the water as out of it.
Telling the group, Abigail also looks over. Checking the indentations and trying to make sense of what she just heard. Putting the picture in her head, she imagines a brontosaurus like creature coming here. Maybe getting a drink of water, or eating some of the vegetation. The look of the ground, she notices a few bits of wax paper.... the image in her head changing a bit. The brontosaurus stopping with a few others. Perhaps all of them taking a bit of a rest. Then, the tracks of the Hydra. The creature either coming out of the bog itself, or charging from nearby... it's hard to say... With no drag marks and no remains, neither side won. Or nothing was pulled away into a den. Then the giant footprints. The light scorch marks along a few blades of grass. The giant... chased them both off? The water makes it difficult to put together a true timeline.
Sim listens and watches Abigail weave a best fit story. Taking a look, Sim retraces the elements along with Abigail. It seems, the brontosaurus...thing.... headed somewhere more clockwise. The hydra probably headed off counter clockwise. While the giant tracks vanish.... possibly cutting through the bog itself.
Morgan does point out, that along the same route as Sim suggests the brontosaurus went is a bit of chimney smoke. While Lafetha knows a lizard-like-creature is making a chuffing sound in the direction the hydra footprints are along....
Sim looks over the options in front of them and recommends that they head toward the smoke and the brontosaurus. Most likely they aren’t with the raiders and they aren’t a hydra. Plus they might be able to shed some light on the raiders and where they went.
The crew regathers their supplies, and sets out to the smoke in the distance. It takes a little while. Nearly an hour of skirting around the bog before just beginning to wade through the muck and water. Another good ten minutes pass before getting closer to six wooden buildings built on poles are all in view and clustered together. They're about five feet above the water, and you don't see a direct ladder or rope extending down into the bog.
You continue to press forward a bit, up to your waist in the bog water and finding it much slower.
Coming from under the homes, about 8 crocodiles are swimming directly at you, and fast.
Round 1 (Start) Setup: Lafetha and Sim are up in front. About 10 feet behind them is Morgan. About 20 feet from Sim and Lafetha is Wilson and Abigail. You are all waist deep in the bog (difficult terrain; swim speed negates). About 70 feet from Lafetha and Sim, coming from underneath these houses that are built on poles a good 5 feet above the water, are 8 crocodiles.
Morgan cocks their head to the side, "I wonder if they are domesticated, or if the Crocs eat the waste the people throw out and that's why they are under the house. More importantly where is the Brontisaurus? We need it to get in the houses. You know what, nevermind, in see now how the swamp sharks trying to eat us might be more important."
Wilson takes a brief moment to fluff out his feathers (Second Wind) before moving to some of the bits of ferns and other plant matter in the bog as an attempt to hide (disadvantage)
((Abigail moves up 15... Moving in water ssuuuccckkksss. By my estimate, that puts me 15 ft. away from the crocs? So, Dodge Action, assuming difficult terrain allows it?))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Round 1 (End)
Summary: Lafetha searches around in the muck, before finding a handful of small stones. She quickly casts a small blessing on them, before waiting a bit for the crocodiles to move a bit closer. Wilson slinks off, ducking into some of the brush out of view. The crocs all move forward, fanning out around the group a bit. Morgan covers herself in frost, before heading closer to the beasts, while Lafetha tosses over one of the stones. It striking the lizard in the face. Sim dives into the water, swimming back and away before emerging once again. Seeing the rock strike the creature in the face but not kill it, turns his bow towards the beast and fires a arrow. The arrow landing into the creatures eye, causing it to sink somewhat into the swamp.
Round 2 (Begin)
Setup: Morgan is about 5 feet away from a swath of different crocodiles, all of them a few feet apart from each other. Lafetha is about 10 feet away, with Abigail being a little more than that. Sim's far enough back to currently be out of danger, as is Wilson.
