Telly doesnt answer, but you do get Sara's attention. She stops banging, and wipes her hands on her apron, wipes sweat from her head, and makes her way out to the main area.
She is a female half orc, obviously very strong from wielding her hammer for many years, though her might looks forged partly in her work, but also from actual combat, wether that was in war, or just defending herself as a half-orc, you dont know. She says "Hello...Oh, Thistle! I am glad you stopped by, I have repaired your scimitar. Lem, good to see you again (she has met you in the past, from you stopping by to visit Telly, though in your absentmindedness, hyo umay). And you (she gestures to Yokini), I dont believe I we have met. I am Sara. What can I do for you?
"Oh! Thank you Sara," Thistle says. "With all the... well, I'd forgotten you still had the saber." Thistle will pull out her coin purse and pay the sum.
"Have you heard about Romero?" she asks.

When you realize you're doing too much: Signature.
Brinya's reaction is not concealed at all. As you finish saying that she and Romero were lovers, she breaks down, giant sobs wracking her body. It only gets worse as you bring up Romero's death. I assume you give her a few minutes to calm down, and gain her composure. She finally manages to regain her breath, and looks up at you through teary eyes, and says "We were more than lovers, Mr. Zoltamane. (She opens a drawer of her nightstand and pulls out a ring) This was his mother's. He proposed just a week ago, privately. Romero...always hiding me. I know he loved me, but he was also ashamed of me. (she looks at her green skin, touches her small tusks) His father never would have approved of the marriage, but that didnt stop Romero. I just wish he hadn't been so cowardly about our love...(she starts to cry again) and there I go, insulting a man who isnt even alive to defend himself.
Sara tells you it will be 1 gold piece, which she accepts from you, and goes to put it away in the cashbox. She responds "Yes, news travels fast in Fallcrest. I heard about his death. Shame he took his life like that."
Thistle puts her receipt away, and pulls out Romero's. "We found his hope knife covered in blood... it's so sad. His family has asked if we could look into the circumstances, see if we can help them understand it. There was a receipt for the knife in his room," she spreads it out for Sara to see. "Says it was made here? By someone named Urnsul? I was hoping we could talk to them about it, see if we can't find the person who ordered this etching, maybe they know something of what might drive him to this sort of thing."
Zashier did more than just wait. Unable to see someone cry without some form of action on his part, Zashier at least tried to gently grasp Brinya's shoulder in an attempt at comfort, and without much forethought. And if that led to her trying to hug him after, the man offered no resistance. She would be held close to the chest, and given all the time needed to regain her composure. "More than?" He parrots, seeming genuinely confused at the statement. When he sees the ring, his eyes went wide with understanding well before she even started to speak.
But still, he remained attentive, and open in expression. Thus, she would see him furrow his brow sternly at the word of cowardice. It might've been that he would've said something on the spot, if not for seeing her begin to cry again. His own burgeoning tears are hardly stopped this time. Not in full, at least. "Be mad, Brinya. 'cause you have every right mad at him. He... was a good man at heart, or tried to be. Just too smart for his own good at times, if you can believe it. Always a bit too worried about keeping everyone happy, and not knowing when it's right just let himself be happy, expense of others or not." Zashier admitted, though in a voice constrained from trying all the same to hold back sobs.
"Think apart of him still blamed himself for what happened with his father. Just as I did with my own..."Zaf shook his head. "Difference was, he got his back... eventually. Even got a Baby Brother too later... a surprise and.... a-anyhow. Brinya, I... I still have more questions. Me and my friends, the little munchkins though two of them are, are doing everything we can to look into this. But, I need your help, okay? We all do. And I know its hard right now, but you're stronger than you think." At that point he takes her by both's shoulders, and tries to look her right in the eyes. "When you talked him last... when you've talked to him at all, did he seem strange at all? Paranoid someone was following him? And... did you order his Hope Knife?"
"We're also curious about the quality of the knife," Yokini adds. "Hope knives are new to me, not being from around here, but from what I understand, the one we found that was supposedly Romero's was pretty shoddy craftsmanship."
"Well..." Thistle puts in, "It wasn't shoddy, it just wasn't of the same quality of his sister's knife, much less expensive to make, probably. I'm sure it is just as meaningful."

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
Lem casts detect thoughts on Sarah as she made her way into the room.
For Lem:
It only lasts a minute, and when she comes in she does some small talk with Thistle, delivering her the fixed blade. However, you do get a brief snippet of what is most important in her mind - she is thinking of someone or something, and wants it to remain quiet and be still so as not to be seen or heard. But that thought is quickly removed as it is replaced by the thought of Thistle and getting her the blade.
Thistle, you produce the receipt and ask about Urnsul, and Yokini pipes up about the quality of the hopeknife.
Sara responds:
Wait, what hopeknife? I know Romero was in here the other day, putting in an order for a hopeknife, but to my knowledge, it hadn’t been finished yet. Not sure why he needed another one....
She takes the receipt from you, and pulls our her record book.
Yes, he put in the order, I took the order, but let Urnsul do the majority of the work, as she was still in training and wanted some experience with hopeknives. He ordered it about a week ago. I guess it doesn’t much matter now, considering his death, but I am curious where it is…
She spends a few minutes searching around the front for the knife.
I bet that clumsy Urnsul put it somewhere before she up and quit yesterday. It is hard to find good help these days. I will let you know If I find the blade.
Zashier, feeling your touch of comfort, Brinya does not push you away. She instead grasps your hand and sobs for a few minutes. (Though she does not attempt to hug you…yet).
She graciously accepts your words of kindness for Romero, and if you begin to cry, she does stand and hug you.
As you hold each other (either hand in hand, or in an embrace) you both slowly regain control over your emotions.
Brinya sits back down on the bed.
When you encourage her to share some more information, , and that you are looking into his death, she looks hopeful.
In response to your questions about how he was the last time she talked to him, about him possibly being paranoid, and about the hopeknife, she responds:
He had gotten really preoccupied with his latest investigation over the last few weeks. He called it “His Greatest Work”, but just like all of his investigations, he wouldn’t share the details with me. Always trying to protect me…or hide me. Just a few days ago, his father, Jagrin, found out about our relationship. Romero told me his dad was very upset - called me a “filthy half-orc”…
Here, her annoyance and anger surpasses her sadness, albeit temporarily.
But Romero still loved me. Even though his dad found out. We were all set to be married, no matter about his father, - we had already exchanged hope knifes! (You know from experience, and the others know as well, couples often exchange their hopeknives. I think I posted about it during the celebration, but as a reminder, engaged or married couples usually exchange their hope knives as a part of symbolizing their union, and protection of each other) but Romero lost his hopeknife….well, actually I guess he lost MY hopeknife. We got into an argument about it the other night at the celebration. We took them in secret to Sara Morninghawk over at Clamor to get them engraved with our love notes.
She slowly reaches to her neck, where a simple chain rests. She pulls the chain, and from behind her shirt, you see the hopeknife is on the other end. She pulls the hopeknife from its sheath.
See? This was Romero’s hopeknife. It says “For Brinya, my love”. My knife, that I gave to him, said “For Romero, my love.” But he lost it while out on his investigation. I was furious! At the celebration last night, I told him….
She starts to cry again
I told him I didn’t want to see him again until he found my knife…
The sobs well up inside of here
And now, I never will…
She reaches for you again, and its another several minutes before she calms enough to continue.
...
If I had known that last night would be my last night with Romero, I would have acted differntly. What is a hopeknife in comparison to our love. Maybe if we hadn’t fought, he would have stayed here last night…
She begins to cry again, this one the most intense thus far. She wails:
…If we hadn’t fought, he would be here now, and not dead!
After this, she takes a long time to calm down, but eventually she is able to catch her breath.
...
She tells you about the poems Romero used to write her. That is what initially attracted her to him. She loved his writing. He was always writing something. He kept a journal with him at all times. He would make story notes, he would try out different poems, he would keep track of his investigations. She asks if you have found his journal, and that whenever you are done with it, if she could have it, to see his last words, to see if they were thoughts of her, to see if he had some unfinished poetry that she could have, to hold onto the memory of their love.
She tells you that his favorite place to write was at The Sanctuary. He told her that he had a “thoughtful muse” there, but he never elaborated. She just assumed he was finding solace in devotion to Pelor, but there were times she wondered if the thoughtful muse was a real person at the church. Maybe someone who knows more about what happened to Romero.
At this, she seems all talked out. She says it was nice reminiscing about Romero, but that she was tired, and needed to rest.
As one unaccustomed to truly getting angry himself, but empathetic all the same, Zashier listened attentively and without interruption. The brief moment he had allowed for more than just a few tears to fall had been -- seemed to be -- enough for the eventual return of a more even-tempered ex-soldier in appearance, at the very least. Though he resolved in mind to eventually have a talk with Jagrin at some point or another.
The thought aside, Zashier is there for Brinya again when things become too much, pulling her into a hug, and just occasionally patting her shoulder or whispering a soothing words; Never an 'It's okay' or 'He's in better place', but moreso "You're not to blame"or "Hang in there." Words of hope and encouragement over empty platitudes.
After Brinya had talked herself out, and needed rest, Zashier would hold onto her for a few moment's longer and say, "Thank you, Brinya. I know this is all feels impossibly hard, believe me I do. But what you have given, I certainly do think, was just what we need to come close to the one responsible for all this. And when we're done with the journal, rest assured I will deliver it personally to you."He smiled and pats her head, giving in either silliness or a minor annoyance something else for her to focus on. "But do me a favor, yah? If it ever becomes too tough, you seek me out, right? Me, or Salazar, or Pelor willing, my sister. A good head on those shoulders, I tell you what."He trailed off into a chuckle, and then promised to check up on her later prior to taking his leave to meet up with the others.
Yokini makes a confused face and then chuckles. "The hope knife isn't here; we just told you we found it at the scene of his death." She taps a finger on the receipt. "It had this strange inscription on it. Why would Romero order a knife with 'For Romero, with love' inscribed on it? Was he some kind of narcissist?"
Zashier, Brinya thanks you for your kindness, and assures you that she will seek support if she finds this burden too much to bear on her own. You make your way across town, to Clamor to catch up with your friends. You are NOT there yet.
@Clamor:
Yokini, Sarah does a double take at what you said.
What do you mean you found it? You bring me this receipt...I thought you were trying to pair it with the knife I had here...the knife was here, in my shop. It was unfinished. How could you have found it at the scene of his death? Do you have it with you now?
And as for why he ordered it, I dont rightly know. He didnt tell me. I did some work on his hopeknife not too long ago, so I am not sure why he requested another one, but he was probably the least narcicisstic person I know....or, knew, I suppose.
Last I remember, I thought either Thistle or Zashier had it. Yokini, you wouldnt have left it at the lab because you dont need the knife, just blood off it. The first process in the lab was getting the blood out of the linens. You likely got some blood off the knife as well into a container. So, either Thistle or Zasher has it.
Post #1065 says, "Thistle and Lem, you wait for Yokini, as she assures you this first part won’t take too long. Zashier, you set off to ask about Brinya", so if Yokini brought it back up from the lab, she couldn't have given it to Zashier. Thistle, would you have asked for the knife? If not, Yokini still has it.
