As you cross the bridge and go toward the cave entrance, the two gnomes lead the way to the room with the guards. They frown as they see what remains of the ice, their heads snapping up to look at the guards. The frowns deepen as the guards just nod in greeting.
When they reach the door to where the barrels are, they stop and allow you to go ahead.
John follows Ketch into the room, greataxe still gripped in both hands. His shoulders much more tense than the other half orc's. In his mind, what the Kings said from behind their sturdy metal door, indicated fear. Fear meant possible danger.
"No. I can't remember it ever being a thing." He replies, his shoulder tension loosening as he sees the room looks just like they left it.
"But mushroom wine was not a thing for me, until we arrived here." This time his shoulders shrug. Slowly he'll walk along any walls lined with barrels, occasionally peering at them with squinted eyes.
Ketch will absently knock on barrel after barrel with his war hammer. Not looking to break them, more just looking to make a wide "thwacking" type noise as he goes about them saying "Say cheese!" or "Smile" or other stupid comments.
Xel-Thoth sees that there are no empty spaces in the alcoves and there are none out of line on the floor.
Ketch starts at one end and works down the line. He finishes one alcove and walks to the next.
He hits one, two. There is a step before he realizes his hand is empty. He turns to see his war hammer stuck to the barrel. And a slit opening up and a long tongue uncurling toward him.
"By Gruumsh!" Ketch shouts out in shock, seeing his hand empty and his Warhammer stuck on a barrel. Ketch will angrily take a step back to his hammer and grab it back up.
"It IS a thing!" John booms, as Ketch's yell draws his attention to what had only seconds ago been an ordinary barrel, but now had a tongue extending out from a mouth.
After Ketch wrests away his war hammer, with a grunt John will take a heaving downward swing with his greataxe, aimed at the barrel's out stretched tongue!

Straight up roll? 14 Add +3 to that if it is Strength/Athletics
Seemingly making it, Ketch would immediately try to swing the Warhammer back down on whatever foul weirdness grabbed it in the first place! ( Attack 14 for 5 Damage, whether it be the same turn or next...)
"A magical barrel! How wonderful! Maybe we can keep it as a pet?" Chom starts towards it, arm outstretched to pet the barrel, before Horace shrieks loudly and cocks its head in the direction of the barrel. "Of course Horace, you are right as always! Always use magic to assist in the handling of magical creatures, that's what we were told by the monks at Candlekeep! We wouldn't want to have a repeat of the incident with the Black Pudding, the wardrobe, and the yoghurt again, would we?"
The gnome waves his hands and mutters a cantrip, producing a shimmering magical force around himself.

Unbelievable. The creature looks like an ordinary barrel except for the fact that it has a mouth, teeth and tongue. And there seems to be some adhesive effect on his friends weapons.
Xel-Thoth would have wanted to spend a much longer time observing the creature if it were not for the fact that it was trying to swallow Ketch whole

"Good luck."
"Have fun."
Since it now might be dangerous entering the room, Xel-Thoth will enter after John.
He will not go near any of the barrels.
OOC: How high is the ceiling of this room?
Ketch will stomp into the room and be all "Now we're looking for barrels with teeth? Has this ever been a thing for any of you?"

John, you look at the barrels you ignored before but don't see anything amiss.
To the DM: Would my character notice if there are less barrels here now than when we first visited this room?

Ketch is up first, then John.

Ketch, you'll have to roll to attempt to retrieve your warhammer from the creature. DC 13.
The greataxe comes down and slices at the tongue, making the creature hiss.
Xel-Thoth, then Chom.

He casts Toll the Dead at the creature.
DC Wis 13 or else get 6 damage [necrotic] (on the assumption it has been damaged by John or Ketch)
He stays in his current position.
((I'm guessing trying to grab up my hammer is my action, I just figured I would throw in the next one so I don't fall way behind again))
