Looking up at Arnold at the hole, Sylyra says, "So, the rope must have held the ladder until the slab reappeared and cut the rope." He looks back at the floor. Do the tracks appear to also come back into the room, or only out of the room? In other words, does it appear people came in, but did not leave?
"That doesn't sound good Sylyra. Y'all know I'm an archer, right? I like wide, open spaces. Why do we keep having to go into caves?"
Arnald grabs the spare ropes that are lying around as well as one of the pickaxes (OOC: You said digging tools, I assume there's at least one pickax) and attaches them to his pack. "Well, might as well gear up like a miner it seems." Then, while carefully holding a torch in one hand still, Arnald repels down Zelra's rope.
OOC: Some repeat information here, but now that everyone is together I want to make sure the situation is clear.
Added a pickaxe and 50 feet of hempen rope to Arnald's inventory.
Arnald clambers down the rope established by Zelra and drops down into the room.
The floor here is stone, and covered by a thin layer of mud that makes the tiles slick. A corridor ahead appears to be carved out of a natural cavern, and the area smells of mildew and rot. The room itself is 40-by-50-feet, with a 10-foot-high ceiling.
It appears that someone has cleared parts of the wall and floor, revealing the remnants of some kind of fresco that is far too faded to identify. A 40-foot coil of rope is tied around the top step of a 12' ladder that rests against the north wall. One end of the rope is sliced and frayed and coiled on the ground as if dropped from above.
Muddy boot tracks of several human-sized creatures lead out of the room. A beaten brass door that leads out of the room is currently open to the corridor beyond.
"Guess the only way forward is through that corridor... let's hope the slab doesn't close on us. I'll go up ahead first and scout a bit."Zelra heads down the corridor first to scout, trying to stay out of the light of the torch. She'll keep an eye out for traps and tracks and an ear out for any noises.
Ola would move after her, trying to keep her distance and looking around for anything standing out - may be torch light can catch something darkvision would not.
Uragum will follow the others while strapping on his trusty punching dagger. He thought that it best to be prepared. "Careful up there, tracks go in but dont come out. Keep your senses sharp," he calls out but it's almost more like hes just repeating things to himself that the others already know.
OOC: To avoid having to repeat information and double the time spent in this area, let's assume that if Zelra does not spot anything in a room, she will call the rest of the party forward.
The corridor makes a sharp turn to the left, and at the point of the turn there is a narrow ledge about seven feet above the floor, revealing a two foot high, ten foot deep alcove within the wall.
The floor continues to slope gently downward, and another beaten brass door leading ahead is open.
For Sylyra:
The brass doors are well constructed. It is difficult to determine their age; with their condition they look as if they could have been constructed within the year, but their design suggests they are likely older than modern architecture.
Ola was not going to climb the wall - not with her armour and weapon. Her idle curiosity already cost the party some time, so, she just turned to see if anyone is interested to look at the alcove, and if not, shrugged and went further after Zelra, through yet another door.
Uragum has a momentary moment of surprise, takes a quick glance to at the skull to see if it is humanoid and then slowly lowers himself back down. "Skeleton, a damn skeleton up there. Debated on removing it and destroying it or leaving it. Sometime best not to touch but be aware it's there and likely others incase it reanimates."
"Do they look like they climbed up there by themselves, scared of something below, or were they placed there by someone else?"Common phrase "skeletons in the closet" somehow did not look that abstract anymore. Further down the corridor Ola now moved double cautiously.
The remains appear to be human sized. There are many more bones than would belong to a single human, and none of them appear to be intact.
The corridor opens into another room, where the ceiling stays level as the floor slopes downward. Longer than it is wide, this room was obviously submerged at some point, as old, calcified growths of barnacles still cling to nearly every surface.
Two suits of bizarre armor, made of what appears to be coral and shells, stand in niches in the wall, each crusted over with the same heavy growth as everything else in the room.
No door leads out of this room, but the corridor continues further beyond it.
Calling out a response to Ola, Uragum says, "Best guess, it's more than one humanoid creature and not a full skeleton. Likely placed by a creature or necromancer. No body honoring the dead would just pile them up like that."
Following the others into the room he sees the armor. "Well now, those look interesting. Anyone care if I take a closer look at that armor? I've not seen its likes before."

Sylyra watches from a few feet away, clearly waiting for someone else to climb.

"Agreed," Uragum says to Arnold. He they says, "I'm going to check that alcove since I'm the tallest." He then makes his way over to take a look.

If Uragum is unable to get a good look at the alcove, Zelra will ask to climb onto his shoulders to get a look up.
With his height, Uragum is able to pull himself up far enough to see that the recess is filled with calcified skeletal human remains.
