"Actually, I was fetching an item for Burke." Mouse responds to Jack, holding Rat in one palm and feeding him a rolled up pinch of bread. "I'd just procured the item, and decided to camp for the night. Rat came sneaking into my camp as i set up for supper." He smiles remembering the truth. He had just pilfered, what seemed to him, just an old rusty copper bangle. It wasn't part of his job to judge what someone was willing to pay for. He himself had not been quite careful enough. Someone spotted him on his way out of a window.
He had to spend the night in a cold wet alley, hidden between a cart missing wheels and some rubbish. He'd just begun nipping on some cheese he'd brought with him, when Rat scurried forward from the garbage. So that part was true at least.
"He had hold of a scrap of burlap! And the way he held it, and skittered forward only a few inches at a time. It looked like he was trying to pull one over on me." The memory brought laughter to his eyes, even if he didn't vocalize it.
"We've been traveling together ever since. Burke named him Rat. I hadn't decided on what to call him by the time i delivered the package. Burke thought it was funny or clever. I guess i did too, seeing as i still call him that." He sets Rat on his left shoulder.
"How is it that you come to know Mr. Burke, Jack? I vaguely remember discussing it last night at the tavern, but i'll be honest. I don't remember many details after a point." Setting his pack down, he rolls his shoulders in relief. Rat expertly maneuvers through this disturbance, finding his way to the top of Mouse's head.
As you take a puff from the pipe you blow out the smoke and it comes out in bright pastel colors!
The headmaster leans forward and blows out a cloud of pink and green as his eyes twinkle with curiosity!
"How do you describe transformation? I've never been able to physically change myself, and I just love to hear how people can transform describe it."

Professor Lionheart lets out a defeated sigh. You can tell that he's had this conversation before and has never won it in the past.

The wind picks up as the boat travels farther from shore! Despite your winter cloths, you can still feel the cold's bitter chill. Both the sky and sea are light grey in color and a thin blanket of fog drifts over the water. Coalburn is still in sight, but its disappears as every second passes.
OOC:A few more posts and then the action will really begin!
"Well at first it was rough...it took me severally months to get used to shaping into the swamp creatures. I started off small to try and make it easier, and turned into a giant crab. After months I finally got shaped....well mostly shaped. My thumb was where the claws should have been and my bum was hanging out bare and all for all to see, but I guess that was normal in the swamp! Once I figured it out and I stopped feeling my body parts fly all over the place like a tornado, it is actually quite pleasant! My advice? Remember where all your body parts go. Wouldn't want you caught with your thumb up your bum, if you know what I mean!"

When mouse asks this question you can tell that Jack becomes a bit uncomfortable. He pauses for a moment before going back to carving. "He found me in a bar, quite drunk, and offered me the chance to become richer than my wildest dreams." Jack chuckles a bit "despite my better judgement I took him up on the offer and now here I am traveling and seeing places I have never seen before."
"He's not overly sociable, but he has a keen eye. He makes that offer to anyone he thinks is worth the trouble of speaking to. At least that's what i believe. He offered me the same, some years ago." Mouse nods reflecting on the time.
"My richest dreams are wilder than most i think! So, don't get discouraged that I don't look rich! Just enjoy the journey for now, we'll get there!" Grinning now, he made his way over to one side of the boat to look out on the frigid waters, careful to tuck Rat back into the safety of his inner breast pocket.
He didn't know why the man seemed a bit uncomfortable when questioned about his relationship with Burke. He didn't think it mattered in the long run. If Burke picked him for this job then Mouse could trust that he would be useful. For now he would do as he'd instructed, and enjoy finally being started on their way.
OOC: sorry for not updating! But I'm ready to get back on schedule!
Ah, yes. Mr. Burke did have a tendency to make outlandish promises, but one does notice he somehow always keeps them! Mr. Burke spent most of his time his shop in "The Bleak City" of Viles, talking to the skeleton displayed in the windows and his shop assistant, Edmund, who've none of you have never laid an eye on.
Guhner decides to take a nap but just as he closes his eyes a loud BANG echoes across the waters! Everyone in the ship turn to the mainland, now almost out of sight, and squint to see a large black cloud rising from the woods beyond!
Out of the Coalburn forest and out of the black smoke emerges a large brass object thats moving at an astounding speed! It soars over the town and the docks and quickly catches up the to small boat! As it gets closer one can make out what it is...
Propellers and ropes sickout and hang all over it and on top of the of the brass body is one large canvas balloon! On the back of it are several large thrusters shooting out smoke and fire! The entire front of is a large viewing window, and the rest of the ship is peppered with cannons, doors, more windows, and tethered hot air balloons. Soon the ship is flying above your vessel, showering you in a snow of ash and coal dust before in soars ahead!
The students and their headmaster gaze at the machine with different levels of shock and amazement, while Professor Lionheart and Captain Kain (who comes out from behind his curtain) just look with raised eyebrows and slightly annoyed looks on their faces.
Right before the airship slip out of sight, a hatch opens on the back and thousands of large black orbs roll out begin to splash into the sea!
"You don't have to be from the swamp to know that is not good. Cap'n, divert away from those orbs if you can! We can't be too cautious with anything of mystery...just like Auntie pearls stew!"

Mouse squints back in the direction of the city, as the flying something appears out of the cloud of black smoke. He finds himself gawking in much the same manner as the students as it passes over head, in all of its brass, floating glory. Shielding his eyes from the sun, he tracks it as far as he can. His eyes widen with worry despite the sun, as he sees an innumerable amount large black orbs spill out of a rear hatch. Like a giant, floating, brass rabbit, relieving itself into the sea.
"Professor what are those things?"
"You don't have to be from the swamp to know that is not good. Cap'n, divert away from those orbs if you can! We can't be too cautious with anything of mystery...just like Auntie pearls stew!"
"I fear there may be too many for that.." He calls to all who can hear. Whatever they were, they we're obviously meant to impede everyone else's nautical progress. "That's a very dirty trick Rat...very dirty!" He grumbles to himself more than the tiny rodent in his pocket, as he rushes to fish out his short bow and quiver from among his things.
Quiver slung over his back, and short bow in hand, he shoulders past any in between himself and the bow of the boat. "I think we'd better do some quick investigating.."
Nocking back an arrow, he waits until he believes one of the orbs is within range, before letting loose.
Guhner wakes up at the commotion of the splashing. He sees the orbs fly into the water. He'll draw his great axe and attack one if it gets too close to the boat.

The Captain slides open his curtain and steps up to the controls of the ship while Guhner and Mouse arm themselves. Mouse is right, the orbs have already spread out and more are spilling out of the airship! It might be too late to go around!
Professor Lionheart seems a bit shocked for a moment at the question but them answers, "I'd say they were mines, but the fact that there floating and we can see them might say otherw-"
The professor is cut off as Mouse lets his arrow fly! The arrow cuts through the air with a whistling noise and hits one of the orbs...!
Harmlessly as the arrow bounces off and lands in the water... One of the orbs (About half the size of the boat) drifts near, and Guhner strikes it with his axe! It clangs against the orb and causes the orb to float away. Each of the people on the boat blink with slight confusion as Kain navigates through the orbs.
"Keep them away... I don't like this..." Kain mutter as another orb drifts near.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"My damned rapier wont be of any help with this either!" Mouse spits, letting his equally useless short bow rest at his feet. He needed something more substantial, like Guhner. But he was no giant, so he would have to improvise.
"There has to be something around here i can use..." he mutters nervously, as the ship wades deeper into the throng of black orbs. His mind races and his eyes dart about the ship.
Investigation roll to find something on the boat he can use to help: 18
Jack steps forward and spins his staff. "Everyone we need to keep them from touching the ship. I don't know what they are but they were dropped for a reason." He will look at the other team. "If you have any magic that can keep them away use it!" Jack will then run to the edge of the ship and get ready to push away the next orb with his staff.
Mouse looks around and sees Jason Holk's broom stick as something that could work.. He also spies Headmaster Northstar's staff but besides that the boat is mostly bare.
Before Jack can finish, Headmaster Northstar turns to his students and says, "You heard him, class! Push them away, transform them, anything!" With that each student pulls out their wands and begin muttering as they prepare to cast some spells!
Jack stands poised and ready as one of the orbs bounces off another and come floating at the boat with surprising momentum!
On the other side where Guhner stands floats over another orb, and Guhner can see that theirs small gold lettering on it as it comes closer!
OOC: Jack & Guhner please roll an Athletic check to push the iron orbs away.
"Don't worry folks, I got this! Just make sure to have some rope ready!"
Matilda straps her quarterstaff to her back and....jumps overboard!
Before she hits the water, she wild shapes into her favorite...Broccoli the Crocodile. With a large splash, Broccoli will propel forward with their powerful tail to be leading infront of the boat. When an orb approaches, Broccoli will try one of two things. First, they will try to grab the orb in their massive jaws and move it to be out of the path of the boat. If that isn't working, they will sweep the orbs away with their tail.

As Mouse's eyes dart from the young mans broom, to the headmasters staff. He tries to work out which, if either, would be his best choice, when Matilda lept into action. Literally jumping overboard, and shifting into a crock!
"Amazing!" With that, he had an idea, and his decision was made. Quickly he removes reaches into his pocket to remove Rat, and gently tucks him into a similar pocket designated on his pack. "Stay put Rat..and cross your fingers."
Rushing over to young Jason Holk, he grabs the boys broom preemptively. "Young man! How hard is it to fly with this thing? Can anyone do it?"
Guhner strikes the orb but its coming in too fast!!! The iron ball slams into the ship and dents the side in a bit! Nothing too serious, but you wouldn't want take many more!
Matilda jumps into the frigid water and is shocked by just how cold it is! She assumes that even in her current form she wouldn't want to spend too long in the water! The orbs are much too large to fit in her jaws but she can effortlessly bat them away with her powerful tail!
Jason looks at Mouse with a raised eyebrow as he holds his wand out to an incoming orb. "Urm... Its pretty tricky... but you're small so it might be easier... What you planning?" he says as the redhead girl Samantha fires a light blue bolt at an orb, causing it to skidding and spinning away across the water!
