As the rest of Team 12 gathers Mr. Burke nods hurriedly. He waits in till each one has arrived. When the last one arrives Burke says,
"Well, is everyone here... one, two, three... alright! Take these!" He says as he throws you 12 gold each. "Now the problem is-"
Suddenly Burke is interrupted by a man who has walked up to the center stage. He wears a light green suit with a red vest. Hes also carrying a long green jacket over over his arm and a silver cane in his hand. He has on a slim pair of glasses and his hair is neatly styled.
"Hello, everyone."
His voice is light and dreamy, but it has a commanding presence. Every one quiets, even Mr. Burke, as he continues, a polite smile on his face.
"I'm sure you don't know me, as I rarely see much work these days, but I'm the Minister of Culture, Perseus Nevermind. I'll be your judge and master of ceremonies for this most wonderful of races. To start us off I would like to thank each and everyone who helped make this possible and everyone that has joined us here today. In these times of unrest and war the public needs events like this to keep spirits going strong. Now some quick explanation."
"The race will consist of 12 teams. Each team will be required to cross the Frigid Sea and receive a ribbon in the town of Icener. Then each team will have to cross the Glace Wastes and go to the town of Snowfall to receive another ribbon. From their you will navigate Snowfall Woods, climb Frostpoint Peak, bring back suitable evidence, that you have found the treasure, to Snowfall, along with the two ribbons already collected, and met me there. The ribbons are to enforce a fair race, of course."
"As for rules their, are but a few. The first is to collect both ribbons, of course. Second, interfering with other teams before the race is forbidden, as I hope you were informed. Third, no harm should come to the people of Coalburn, Icener, or Snowfall, but other players and teams are fair game. Fourth, no fighting each other in till you are one nautical mile away from Coalburn. Fifth, if you are not registered to the competition, you can not claim the treasure. Sixth, if one would arrive with not suitable proof of the treasure, missing your teams two ribbons, or is caught cheating of fabricating evidence, victory will be rendered null and void, and the next legitimate team will be awarded winner. Lastly, the throne of Azairia or any others are responsible for outsiders or other teams inferring with progress or victory."
He said all this in a polite monotone, but his face suddenly brightens and he gives a large smile!
"Now that all that boring stuff is out of the way, lets get to the Teams themselves!"
He begins to move in fluent, showy, motions as he introduces each team from a sheet of paper with a louder, more excited tone!
"Team 1 is King Thornwood's own entry, The King'smen!
Team 2, Jess & Freya!
Team 3 is, err... Kurt!
Team 4 is asking to be called The Blastzone!
Team 5 is a representative for the Carter & Fourthfeild Company!
Team 6 is Captain Jolli and her motley crew!
Team 7 has.. several entries, hold on... The Batniks?
Anyway, Team 8 is the Dokktors Guild!
Team 9 is The Necras!
Team 10 is the best and brightest from Northstar Academy for the Arcane!
Team 11 is should be quite familiar, Dr. Cashus J. Winkle's Traveling Troupe!
And Team 12 is... blank..."
He looks at your group.
"Do you have a team name?"
This, of course, calls the attention of the crowd and the rest of the teams to you! Looking over, it doesn't seem that Mr. Burke is going to be much help!
The Minister raises an eyebrow, then let's out a laugh that is filled with pure joy!
"Team 12 is The Giant Lordly Rougish Dragon Halfling Monks!
Lets give all of our wonderful teams a round of applause!"
The crowd cheers and claps, each team taking the affection in a different way, some showing off, a few waving, and some simply standing impressively!
"Now does any of the contestants have questions?" the minister continues as a man in a patchwork coat walks up on the stage and waits patiently for the minister to finish.
OOC: can I get clarification on this line Lastly, the throne of Azairia or any others are responsible for outsiders or other teams inferring with progress or victory."
The minister looks over, clearly not expecting any one to actually ask a question.
"Urm, Well ,technically, yes. Mr. Fourge here," he gestures to the man in the patchwork coat,"Had a quick announcement to make and then the race would officially start. Any one else have a query?"
OOC: Sorry, The throne of Azairia or any others are NOT responsible for outsiders (non-official racers) or other teams interfering with progress or victory. Its pretty much a disclaimer and its telling you that non-official racers may pop up. I got to proof read better. :p
Mouse tucks the 12 gold into his coin pouch while leaning in closer to hear Burke clearly. Only for Burke to be interrupted again! A man in green stood center stage and Mouse finds himself naturally paying attention like the majority of other people. Mouse takes a step slightly behind Guhner, as the crowds attention is all turned to his team. Thankfully its only for a short time.
Mouse joins in the applause moments later when the final team, his team is named and everyone was one step closer to the start of the competition. Mouse will focus his attention on the man in the patchwork coat, to get a read.
Matilda VIGOROUSLY sketches in her damp notebook a drawing of Team 7's lion. She has been waiting for an opportunity to wild shape herself into a big cat, as they are rare to encounter in the swamps. The name she scribbles next to the quick sketch is Kitten.
Otherwise, she is not impressed with the other contestants. She is confident in the team that roughly came together, where as these teams are "too" well established for her preference.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“I would like to know about this problem as well. I do hope it’s nothing bad.” The cloaked dragonborn rumbled. He stopped slouching, and was close to 7 feet tall. “Please, enlighten us. Tell us about this problem you keep mentioning, but have never actually told us what it was.”

Sadly, the commotion of the crowd and them yelling over each other makes it so you only hear a loud mumble.
Guhner hears the announcer calling teams and gets excited. "This competition is about to begin!"
I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
Gorarinn looks curiously at the first group, but stays with his group.
I open my eyes and look to Burke while still meditating. "What was the issue you mentioned?"

Ok this is completely out of game. We need to decide a name. So let's throw some out and choose the best.
OOC: Jocks Machina AA Team. It's a mix of CR and baseball. I went with a sports idea because this is a competition.

Does the race begin directly after this ceremony?

Guhner turns to everyone and raises his arms. "Let's hear it for ... The Giant Lordly Rougish Dragon Halfling Monks! That's a mouthful."
I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
"Mouthful? Just like my aunt Jamima's swampy surprise soup!"
To Burke during a moment of "quiet" in the crowd or announcer"
"Mr. Burke, you have a ship chartered for us yes? And what is this problem you keep speaking of"
