Frustration is overly evident on the young gnome's face. He is basically biting his lip as he seems to be realyl focused on this creature. He pulls the pick back and again swings it overhead at the ankheg's back.
Nevlav, you swing your pick, but the creature seems to anticipate your action. It turns to face you and its mandibles close around the end of the pick and in one fluid motion it spits it out, pushing you back and frustrating another attack. Small rivulets of acid drip from your pick and hiss as they touch the floor.
Grin, as you launch the stone at the scarecrow, you drive the magical stone through the back of its skull and out of the front of its face. It stumbles about for a moment, until magically, the hay and straw you scattered all over the mine floor seemingly knits itself back together to create a facsimile of its face -- it clearly was not able to totally rebuild the face, so gaps remain, and somehow the effect is even more terrifying now.
The ankheg looks like its on its last legs, and the scarecrow is starting to slump over a bit -- he's definitely hurt.
Yoric, you manage to find one of the gaping holes that Grin created and shove the torch into the scarecrow and suddenly, the construct's body ignites as though you just struck a match
You all hear two noises coming simultaneously from the scarecrow. First, very clearly, is the howl of pain coming from it, the fire burning away its very essence. But under it, horribly, you hear laughter. "Heheheheheheheehehehehe." It makes all of you who hear it shiver -- it's just Grin and Yoric, since the pain cry is loud enough to mask it for anyone who's not close enough.
(The scarecrow takes 4 damage this round and must spend its action trying to put out the flames or it will suffer 4 damage next round, with a d6 being added each round as the fire spreads. Its hurt baaaad gang.)
Thalion sees those mandibles once again miss him by the narrowest fraction and feels the inevitability of the ankheg's maw coming closer with every attack. It was time to end this. Just as he lifts his shortsword aloft to strike the killing blow the scarecrow bursts into flame, eliciting a cry of surprise from the elf.
Finally, with the light of the burning hay glinting off of his blade he swings at the creature.

Thalion, that brief moment of distraction from the now burning scarecrow is all the ankheg needs to shifts its weight and prevent you from getting the killing blow. Your shortsword cracks against its exoskeleton but doesn't pierce it, instead harmlessly bouncing off the creature's back.
The ankheg, now that its facing Nevlav, will lash out with his mandibles at the gnome, trying to bite him and grapple him in his pincers.
Attack: 17 Damage: 10Minus Bane: 4
Nevlav, due to the creature's weakened state, you are able to use your war pick to block the ankheg's mandibles, and push him back away from you harmlessly.
Ankheg Acid Recharge: 5
The scarecrow meanwhile, seems to want to drop onto the ground, but whatever force is controlling it does not seem to care about the flames engulfing its body.It raises up its metal claws and attempts to rake them across Yoric once more.
Attack: 5 Damage: 3Minus Bane: 3
The scarecrow's claws sink deep into Yoric, the rough iron cutting through his armor and leaving deep slash marks.
(Yoric, make a WIS DC 11 saving throw with advantage or become frightened).
The scarecrow also takes 4 fire damage -- next round it will take 4 as the fire spreads over the rest of its body.
Alden, you notch an arrow and loose it towards the distracted and weakened ankheg, and drive it right through the side of its head and out the other side. The creature falls at Nevlav's feet, completely dead.
(Grin and Nevlav, you are up. Scarecrow is in very bad shape.)
Grinhilla will cast minor illusion, playing the first few moments of a funeral dirge. She'll take out a vial of pink champagne, take a sip, cross her arm under her chin and spit the sparkling liquid at the burning construct.
The unseen force that is animating the construct forces the being to look directly at you Grin, immediately after the champagne hits it. "Oooh. Granny likes you, little one. I can't wait until we meet. Hehehehehehehehe."
The flames seem to be rapidly eating away at the being, and its not clear how much longer it will be able to hold itself together.
(Yoric needs to make his WIS save DC 11 with advantage, and its Nevlav's go).
Nevlav, too, was startled by the death cries. As the Ankheg falls at his feet he puts the head of his pick on the ground and seems to lean on the handle, huffing in exertion as he turns and mutely watches the death throes of the Scrarecrow.

Grin casts magic stone as a bonus action and then launches another at the Scarecrow.

(Top of the order)
Yoric wants to stuff the torch right down the scarecrow’s face. (What sort of roll?)
Paladin - warforged - orange
(Roll a melee attack -- damage as per the DMG is 1 fire damage, but he is made of straw, so --- see if you hit).
Yoric swings
Attack: 22 Damage: 1
(wasn’t sure if proficiency is added)
(oh snap)
Paladin - warforged - orange
(Damn -- doesn't matter with that roll).

Alden
Again Alden will fire an arrow at the same target he has been shooting at:
Hit: 14
Damage: 8
Sneak Attack Damage: 6

Alden
Alden casts a suspicious eye towards the scarecrow.
"Do these things explode when they die?" he asks.
Alden starts moving away from the scarecrow, full movement.
Yoric’s Wis Save 15
Paladin - warforged - orange
(Yoric, you're fine. If you are all okay with watching the scarecrow burn itself out, we can drop out of initiative.)
Yoric backs away and wipes the sweat from his forehead as the scarecrow burns.
”Friend of yours, Grin?”
Paladin - warforged - orange
Alden
Alden will move back up with the group then past. He will start making his way around in hopes to find the missing.
