DM - A Quest for the Shunned City (Groups 1 and 2)
It seems that the voices are coming from all around you, but they are getting louder and closer.
As you are walking down the crimson path, everything goes completely black. Even the light of the path as disappeared. The sound of the rattling of your armor, and the feel of the ground has changed. It air is cold and humid. It sounds like you are in an earthen cave. From behind you you hear a sinister sound of overlapping whispers.
For those with dark vision:
You are underground in what appears to be a basement or a cave. Behind you is a long tunnel that disappears into darkness. The overlapping whispers are coming from the darkness, and they sound hostile. Your instincts tell you that you don't want to encounter whatever is making the strange sounds. In front of you is what looks like a doorway, but it has been filled in with soft dirt.
Tella readies herself and casts dancing lights in the room, having the lights each be in a corner of the room so her companions without darkvision can see.
"Much better"said with a smile. "Solid of foot. In cave like dwarf normally be."He stomps a little. Approaching the mound of soft dirt, Osso grabs a hand axe and uses it as a make shift shovel. "Come. Dig like badger. We go out door soon". He seems to almost be enjoying himself.
Kendrick positions himself at the rear of the party, between the whispers and his friends. Using the advantage of the lights, he watches carefully for threats as Osso (and perhaps others) dig.

Bilick joins Osso in the front now and helps dig, using two hands to scoop out as much of the soft dirt as he can. Then, sighing he says "This is bloody ridiculous."
He will Wildshape into a Wolf, and start using his paws to dig deeper and faster into the pile of dirt in hopes that he can get the task done as soon as possible as the crimson tunnel is making him very nervous.

Tella cast dancing lights which light up the room quite brightly, although casting the spell causes Tella some pain. You see that the way you came in is now a narrow corridor, and you see several shadows coming toward you. It is only wide enough for one of you to fight in close quarters at time without letting them into the room. (Ranged weapons and reach weapons are half obscured by the fighter in front)
Osso is digging with his axe and removes 6 gallons of dirt
Kendrick is watching for threats
Bilick is using two hands to dig 5 gallons of dirt
Purbag stands guard.
The shadow attacks Kendrick! Attack: 7 Damage: 7 vs AC 14 if hit, also reduce strength by 4
Looking back briefly to see the commotion, he sees Kendrick get attacked but notices the lack of room for fighting. "Osso help or keep digging?" he shouts back at his barbarian friend.
((Until he hears something he will keep digging, frantically))
Bilick's wolf form looks back at the shadows and emits a low, dangerous growl. Then the wolf turns back around and begins digging furiously in the dirt trying to break through as quickly as possible.
Raging in fury that these creatures would attack him, Kendrick erupts in fury, stabbing with his blessed longspear at the shadow in the doorway, staying put to protect the others and trying to block the second shadow from getting in range to attack. "I'll protect you! Keep digging!" he calls out.
(Kendrick, if you want to step back from getting hit when using your range weapon, the shadows will get into the room. If you want to use your range weapon at close range, then they will not get in. Alternatively, someone with a short range weapon could step in front of Kendrick.)
OOC: Thanks, GM, that is exactly what I figured. Since the shadows got the drop on us, Kendrick can't move away without either burning an action on Disengage or provoking an Attack of Opportunity (unless they kill one and the other is not adjacent). With the other front line people either digging or shooting crossbow bolts, Kendrick figures it is up to him to plug the gap, at least for now. That being said, if someone else wants to push their way to the front, Kendrick will gladly take a step back and stab from the approved social distancing location.
"Just let me know if someone else wants to get up close and personal with the enemy," adds Kendrick, "and I'll trade with you."
