Eoni pockets the items in her hands, adding the potion to the few hanging around her waist. Without hesitation she jumps up front on the cart and points to the tracks ahead, Onwards!
Rollo takes the reins as everyone else climbs into the back. The tracks are easy to follow even in the moonlight, the carts making deep furrows in the ground. Everyone else takes the chance to grab some rest. Half way through the night Leowin switches places with Rollo so he can get some rest too. The path heads back towards Vulyar, but curves away from the town before you reach the gates and circumvents it heading into the woods to the North-West.
As the cart trundles on its path Eoni drifts off to sleep. She has a dream while she slumbers. In this dream she is visited by a caped and hooded figure. Well done my child, not only have you down chaos in the plans of my enemies you did it through guile and misdirection. I fear however you will not reach the children in time, nevertheless you are known to me now, not just as one of my children but as one who has the means to keep the scales from tipping one way or another. In the dream the figure drifts closer, placing a hand on your head. you have my first blessing child, hopefully the first of many, use it well. The dream ends and Eoni awakens, refreshed and now with the knowledge of the following ability:
Travellers Devotee
Piety 3+ Traveller trait
As a devotee of Traveller, you have proven yourself accomplished at deception. You can call on his blessing and cast disguise self with this trait. While the spell is active, your shadow still resembles your original form. You can cast the spell in this way a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once). You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this spell.
Draskan wakes, feeling fresh and renewed. He looks around him seeing that they have passed the town and entering the woods, taking in his surroundings as they do
As you follow the tracks through the woods Draskan starts to notice that there are symbols cut into the trees of this part of the woods. It is few in number at first but gradually increasing.
The cart enters a clearing, circular in appearance, and the trail stops cold. The symbols are cut into the trees around the border of the clearing, but no other signs of the carts and teh children are to be found
Rollo jumps out to try to find any tracks or signs giving a clue to as the direction, or what may have happened, to the carts and the children. He remains weary of an ambush, pistol drawn.
Eoni hops out of the cart and saunters over oddly to one of the trees with the markings on it. She crouches beside it and whispers, covering her mouth.
Pssst tree, what happened here? Did any children come through this way?
Rollo uses his lycan senses to scout the grounds. The tracks are clear, they head straight into the center of the clearing and at the exact midpoint the tracks cut off, there is no disturbance to see, they simply stop, as if the cart and oxen were never there.
The tree groans into a semblance of sentience and grumbles to Eoni Little fleshlings came here, carried by hardfeet pulling the corpses of the fallen. Strange shouts they made, awful racket, and strange lights filled our peaceful glade. Big bang and flash of light then fleshlings and hardfeet gone from home, peaceful returnings there were until you came.
The tree doesn’t understand. It cannot tell the difference between adults and children, and you know from speaking to trees before that the corpses it’s referring to are things made of wood. Hardfeet are most likely whatever horse or oxen were pulling the carts.
Diomedes glancing around you see arcane sigils traces around the edge of the clearing. Arcana check please
Diomedes describes the runes he sees glowing as he scans the clearing. Draskan, having a growing knowledge of the arcane, recognises that it seems like a form of teleportation circle, the power to activate such a circle is beyond him however and he would need to correct runic signature for the end destination in any event. Whoever was with the children has teleported them out of your reach, for now.
Shall we get on the cart and get after the children then?

Goddess, open my senses
Tree, when you say there were corpses, were they little corpses ...say half my height or were they full grown fleshlings?

Well we tracked them this far, surely we can’t give up now?
