As the group make their way to the bloody section of road, Jorge and Norge both crouch down and begin inspecting the footprints and the blood scattered around the scene. Jorge can tell where the different animals and his companions had each fallen, but notices that he doesn't see any signs of anyone or anything being dragged away. He also doesn't see any fresh prints that would have led him to believe that a lizardfolk or Kobold had been by to collect the bodies....
Norge bends down and notices much of the same information as Jorge.. and as he picks up the blood and moves it between his fingers, he notices that it feels gritty and lumpy.. as though it is full of sand ... and the texture of the blood is off... it is thicker like syrup and has streaks of green and blue and white mixed in it. After wiping the bloody goo on to the ground, Norge looks a little closer at the prints and notices that they appear to retreat north back up the road. Following them a bit, he is able to find a new set of footprints that look to have been from the man in the fog. While all the other prints seemed to have gone back to the north.. his footprints look to have continued along the edge of the swamp....
OOC: Ugh. Jorge and Norge. Truth be told, ever since I decided to actually create Jorge, I haven't liked the name. I was pronouncing it like George in my head, but I know it's really pronounced "hor-hay". Plus, I really prefer something Scandinavian for him (hence his family name). Sorry to add a bit of (hopefully temporary) confusion, but I'm going to change Jorge's first name to Jakob.
When Norge points out the prints continuing along the edge of the swamp, Jakob looks at the others, clearly ready to proceed alone or together. "We should follow them."
OOC2: If we're still in the same day, should those of us who already advanced to level 2 backtrack? Or are you going to make sure we don't do anything level dependent?
Beyanna follows Jakob and Norge and kneels down next to them when they inspect the bloody patch of ground where Tiriana died.
"Yes," she says, fighting back tears she touches the ground next to the pool of blood. "This is where she fell. Poor girl. It all happened so fast, she never saw it coming. My eyes will never unsee the horror on her face when she was struck."
When they spot the line of footprints, Bey concurs with Jakob's idea. "Indeed. We should see where they lead while the trail is still fresh."

Azure follows along silently observing the corpses and bloody patches. He'll cast Light on the front of his shield attached to his arm and continue mace in hand. He'll use Shape Water to add ice sickle spikes to his mace and keep and eye out at their backs making sure to note any large trees should another herd of animals appear.
(OOC: I don't think it is going to be a problem. I don't think it effects your ability check rolls much and I guess if you all get into combat, we will worry about that then :P)
"This blood isn't right. Those animals were either completely changed by something or they weren't natural to start with." Norge says in disgust as he wipes his hands. "The main set of foot prints lead to the north but this second set if different. They must belong to the dark figure that appeared. I'm with Bey and Jakob. These tracks are fresh. We should follow them along the swamp before they get swallowed up by the muck."
The group turns away from the northern road and makes its way along the edge of the swamp. The sounds of frogs and crickets fill the air with the occasional splash in the swamp water sending ripples across its murky surface. The tracks are fairly easy to follow at first because of the soft earth near the waters edge, but before long the tracks turn back towards town. As you continue to follow the muddy prints down the street, you quickly realize that the road that the figure was following runs parallel to the road the stampede and the group took to the inn. Moving down the side street behind shops and some of the less appealing housing, it gets harder and harder to keep following the tracks. Eventually the prints end across the street from Muck and Maggots as you assume the mud and water on the boots had fallen off or dried up. From this location you have a perfect view of the inn and can see Rend and Dig working to drag the corpses of the horse, goat, and kow into a small wooden cart that had not been there before. The two creatures hiss and growl as they strain against the stinking animals lifeless bodies.
OOC: I will need more survival and investigation rolls at disadvantage if you want to try to look for more tracks or anything due to the darkness / fog / etc... You may help eachother to overcome the disadvantage.
Jakob has pretty good survival and also the hunter's intuition trait (an extra d4). I'll roll with disadvantage, and if anyone wants to help him, Wrecks can use the first roll. If you're going to help, of course, don't look at the rolls ahead of time; that's cheating. :)
Bey follows along and observes with dismay when she sees that the tracks lead right up into town and across from the inn before disappearing. "Whoever it was, he appears to have watched the whole thing unfold after unleashing his foul stampede upon us. I do not like this one bit."
Although she's not especially adept at tracking, Beyanna does have keen half-elven eyes that can see relatively well in the dark. And, she's got a keen mind for piecing together details. Getting down on her own hands and knees, she crawls around looking for any other clues that might indicate where the mysterious man might gone.

"The bastard watched the whole thing. I wonder if he was controlling or guiding the animals some how." Norge ponders as he searches the area for more clues.
Azure illuminates the area as the group fans out and investigates the cobblestone road and surrounding alleys for clues to where the mysterious figure may have gone. Norge and Jakob struggle to find any prints fo follow but as Beyanna crowls around on the road, her hand lands in something slimy. As she examines her hand, she notices that it appears to be the same appearance and consistancy as the blood of the. corrupted creatures that attacked them. Norge spots a few more faint blood droplets before Jakob is able to notice that they form a trail headed towards the inn.
When you follow the train past the inn, Rend and Dig pause from loading up their cart long enough to give a small nod. Blood is dripping from the heads of the creatures where they were struck with bolts and bashed in with a chair.
Mith follows along with the others. His senses for this type of thing aren't that great so acts as a guard and keeps watch over the others as they focus on the investigation.
Jakob (And anyone that has lived in town for a while) would know both Rend and Dig. They have been part of the town since as long as anyone can remember. They spend the majority of their time in a small monastery located in the center of the graveyard that they maintain. The graveyard is located on the edge of the Skull Stone swamp and the surrounding MoonGlow Forest. Both Rend and Dig don't really preach or talk about their deity much but they do have a large white stone skull built into the stone archway above the entrance to their monastery. They both wear silver necklaces that tuck down into their robes that hide any kind of holy symbol that might be attached.
"Evening" Rend would reply with a hiss as he finishes tossing the last corpse on to the cart with minimal help from Dig. Although he tries to hid it, the lizardfolk is obviously worn out and breathing heavily after the last of the three creatures are loaded into the cart. "Hey! What you guys doing? Where ya going? I thought everyone went home for the night?" The kobold would pipe up looking towards the group. While Rend was covered in a substantial amount of mess from the dead creatures, the kobold was significantly cleaner... only his small clawed hands show any signs of blood and dirt. Dig doesn't seem tired at all as he bombards the group with his rapid fire questions.
"We're trying to get to the bottom of what caused this mess. Did you guys see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary around the outside of the inn while you were cleaning up?"
"No" Rend would reply. As he moves to open his mouth as though to speak more, the kobold interrupts him. "Nope! Ain't seen nuttin out of the ordinary... except these dead critters here.." He would say as he kicks the wheel of the wagon with his small clawed foot. "We done took yer friend to the monastery to get her ready for burial . After we dropped her of we got the cart and came right back here. You all are the only ones we seen since we left." The tiny kobold would rattle off words a mile a minute as the large lizardfolk lets out a sigh. "Your friend... she sick?" Rend would ask before Dig immediately cuts him off once more. "Yeah! When you all left she looked normal... Dead.. but.. .normal dead.... but by the time we dropped her off... she didn't look so good she was starting to look a bit like... well.." He would stop and point towards the plague riddled corpses of the goat, cow, and horse. As Dig speaks, Rend would just shake his head and hold his bloody hands over his face..

Insight on whether Jakob thinks they're hiding something: 18
"We don't know," Jakob says, eyeing the two. "She seemed fine. Hey, you two wouldn't know anything about these creatures, would you?" he asks casually. "How they might have come about? Have you two seen anything unusual around your graveyard? Anybody there that shouldn't be, or any strangers who you've never seen before?"
Azure follows up with, "Official business. The mayor has tasked us with discovering the source of these creatures. We are trying to use the freshness of the nearby tracks to see if there can be any advantage gained before heading off to rest. If you have any information on the subject we'd be grateful."
Dig would open his mouth as if he were about to speak again, but before he can a large black claw grips his snout. "So much talk.." Rend would say with what appears to be a Grin as the kobold stands defeated next to him. Dig gives a look of annoyance and you assume this happens quite often "Friend killed by these?" The lizardfolk would say looking to the corpses in the cart. "They stink like rot... but also mold and fungus. Your friend... she not smell when we pick her up... but she did smell when we get to graveyard. She smell too quickly. Mold too quickly." He would say with a frown. "Sick see us... have plague you say you will fix. They want cure. We dont have cure... They smell like them... they smell like your friend." Rend would finish as he let's go of Digs snout. Dig would grumble and rub his nose before looking to Norge and Jakob. "No, nuttin... no strangers, nothing strange." He would add. "You ready to go Rend? I'm getting humgry!" The kobold would say as the lizardfolk nods in agreement. "Goodbye." Rend would say with a nod before taking the cart and pushing it towards the monastery.

Does Jakob know Rend and Dig? Have they been around longer than a year? If so, does Jakob know what deity they serve?
Jakob returns their nod. "Fellas," the old man says by way of greeting, trying to act as casually as possible.
