Umbriel will tuck into that delightful ration, beginning to wonder how everyone else is finding so much to eat... even Droop's squirrels are starting to look tempting next to the hard tack and jerky every. single. meal. Umbriel volunteers for the first watch. Perception: 20
Towards the evening, Baeshra will move away from the party and casting speak with animals as a ritual and trying to attract any animals he can find to find out whats going on around us in the woods or, if possible, the keep up ahead.
You move about a hundred feet from camp and take the time to ritually cast your spell. You manage to catch the attention of a passing rabbit. The rabbit is not aware of the keep, but it says that there aren't any large predators in the immediate vicinity, although a band of goblins came through early in the morning. (Let me know if there is more you wish to discuss with the animals).
The party settles in for the night...
Umbriel's first watch passes without issue. Whistler on the second watch catches sight of a shooting star through the tree branches. Ireniana and Droop on the third watch quietly discuss how to throw a dagger and make it stick every time. Before you know it, the night has passed and the 13th of Flamerule has arrived!
A quick breakfast is made and consumed and the party sets forth again.
Assuming you are maintaining your "Normal" pace, everyone make a Survival check at disadvantage for foraging throughout the day. Umbriel make a Survival check for Navigating as well. If you want to go at a "Slow" pace, your Survival foraging checks will not have disadvantage, but Hostile creatures will have disadvantage to detect the party. Let me know.
Those that want to can add a Perception check to stand for their general awareness and to be on the lookout for hostiles throughout the day, if not, your passive Perception will be used.
The party heads out, following Umbriel's lead. The forest gets thicker, with more fallen trees to navigate the cart around, and a soft carpet of needles, you can tell the Mule is having to pull harder.
After several hours, you come upon a familiar site about 100 feet away. You can barely glimpse it through the trees and brush, but sure enough, there it is. Your campsite from last night. And rummaging around through the campsite you all see a large, furry and feathery, 4 legged creature. Baeshra and Rosie recognize this as an Owlbear. The way it is sniffing around you get the idea that it might be tracking you and trying to pick up your scent.
So far it seems that the Owlbear hasn't noticed you 100 feet behind him.
Umbriel nods. "I agree - and though I apologize for leading us in a big circle, I'm glad we learned of this now. Baeshra, are you able to turn into a beast such as this? Or at the very least, do you speak its tongue?"
Lyngheid focuses on her Create Water spell, and causes a light rain between them and the Owlbear. Unfortunately, she is so focused on it that she unconsciously takes a step and steps on Whistler's foot, who gives a small chirp in pain.
The Owlbear swings it's head around and looks right at the party, sniffing the air and tilting it's head. Suddenly it starts running, the fur and feathers rippling on top of it's heavily muscled body. It's charging straight for the party!
Everyone roll initiative, and then take your turn. You have time for 1 round before the Owlbear is upon you!
On his turn, Umbriel will cast Shatter on a tree close to the path of the owlbear, in between it and the party - the goal is to cause a large noise and splintering shards of tree trunk that startle and dissuade the beast from charging at us. CON save, DC 13 - 9 thunder damage on a failed save, half on a pass.

Ireniana is going to stand still for a moment. "We shouldn't attack it unless we have no choice, but we have to watch out for the horses."

Baeshra holds very still and replies quietly, "I'm not sure. I'd rather face it now when we're ready than have it track us and fight it at night."

"I don't want to attack the poor dear if we don't have to. It hasn't done anything to us."

Everyone roll a stealth to see how quietly you are discussing your plan of action.
" Let me try something...."
Lyngheid again prayed to her goddess for rain, this time to wash away their scent...

Whistler has never seen an owlbear and rubs his eyes looking at the physical embodiment of bird and muscle. Something he inspires to be.

"It is like Whistler!" he whisper-mimics excitedly to no one in particular.
