Umbriel nods. "Also, if memory serves, both Citadel Felbarr and Mirabar are many days journey away, so whichever destination we choose, we should take time to adequately prepare for it. We'll need more rations, for sure."
Baeshra runs over and gets the mule and spends a half hour hooking it up to the ring in the ground. The mule heaves and strains. Make a Strength check for the mule and an Animal Handling check for yourself.
Gathering those in the party that can speak Giant, Umbriel prepares a list of questions he'll ask. While he prepares, he gives Droop ten gold pieces and tells him to find some incense. Once Droop returns (assuming he's successful) Umbriel sets out the incense, weaves the shadows into a small sphere, and with his eyes closed, waves his hands and commands the sphere of shadow to enter the male giant's mouth. The tendrils of shadow creep along, and the spell takes hold. The corpse's eyes flutter open, but there is no light in them - only swirling darkness. Reading from his prepared questions, and expecting those who speak Giant to help him translate any answers, Umbriel asks the following:
Droop is successful, and returns, along with a new healing kit since he used all of his charges.
Okksort's eyes flutter open, giving new meaning to the phrase "Dead Eyes" for those of you that haven't seen this before. His chest moves as he inhales a large amount of air and begins answering questions:
"Well, that certainly gives us a little more to go on. This 'Vonindod' is clearly of great importance, but what interests me is that once again, this Duke Zalto is behind it. If there are no records or histories here in Triboar, I suggest we move on to Citadel Felbarr as soon as we're ready. We may be more likely to find answers there, and if we're on the move with this ring it will be safer for these people." Umbriel starts doing some calculating in his head, trying to plan out how many days of rations he'll need to bring.
The mule struggles mightily but can't budge the huge chunk of adamantine. But when you connect Pale and the mule and get them both working together, you are able to get it pulled out of the hole. You estimate that it weighs over a thousand pounds. Dragging it with the mule and Pale will limit your speed to 5 feet.
Lyngheid:
You have heard of the Vonindod before. You remember that it was an enormous dragon-slaying construct created long ago, several thousands of years ago in fact.
Nyx:
You remember that the Vonindod was created several thousands of years ago when the giants unleashed the enormous magic construct against the dragons. It was sundered as part of the ancient giant and dragon war. You know that Ironslag is in the Ice Spires and home to Fire Giants.
As you all are discussing what the fire giant said, Urlam Stockspool (the member of the Zhents that owns the Triboar Traelers) arrives and looks over the fragment. He is very impressed and offers to buy it from you for 5,000 gold.

(It looks like if we get it onto a cart or wagon, it should be well under their combined pull weight, can we build a ramp to roll it up or something?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ireniana thinks about it for a moment. "I'll need to buy a longbow. I could do something and try to lift it onto the cart. I didn't get to try it in combat."
She activates Giant's Might and is now a large creature.

As a bonus action, you magically gain the following benefits, which last for 1 minute:
- If you are smaller than Large, you become Large, along with anything you are wearing. If you lack the room to become Large, your size doesn’t change.
- You have advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws.
As Ireniana swells in size and attempts to lift the adamantine object, Umbriel says "Thank you very much for the offer, Mr. Stockspool - may I have a moment to confer with my companions about your offer?"
Away from earshot, Umbriel says "One, I don't trust him, and two, this radiates magic. If it's part of something larger, whatever that may be, I'm not sure we should sell it just like that. I don't know that our cart is strong enough to carry something this heavy, and I don't have the right magics to make it easier to move. What do you all want to do?"

" Selling a resource like this to scum like the Zhentarim is never a good idea. Especially when theres a handy law abiding clan of Dwarves that would be eager to take it off your hands."

Stockspool nods. "Yes, by all means."
OOC: The longbow is just a different weapon than the shortbow. She'll go buy one later.
As for the lift, Ireniana will find an edge and lift it with Lyngheid's help. Maybe they grab one side each and move it, similar to furniture.

I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
"My friends" Nyx whispered, slinking into there little huddle. "Aside from being amazing, as I have never seen someone talk to the dead before and it gave me the chills, the riddles that the giant gave, well I know the answers. I may have said before that my trade is in stories and I know some of the stories told of the giants of old. That giant just rekindled my memories, that's all that was needed."
"So Ironslag. It is up in the Ice Spires and is the ancestral home of the Fire Giants. I would guess it would be the base of this Duke Zalto if I was a betting woman and I have been know to have the occasional flutter."
"But this thing we have found, the Vonindod. Aside from sounding like some beast that would frighten children into bed, it was created several thousand years ago when the ancient giant kingdom went to war with the Dragons of Faerun. It is an enormous magic construct made to wage war and slay Dragons however during the war the Dragons sundered it into pieces." Nyx makes a motion with her hands like a bomb exploding for added effect.
"I agree with Lyngheid. We can not give it to this fellow as they would be just as likely to sell it off to the giants. And if the Fire giants are after the parts from a thousand year old weapon of war coupled with the Spell Forge thing we just found down in Phandelver, well then. I think we know what Duke Zalto is about to do... he wants to start a war."
After conferring with the others, and hearing what Nyx had to relate about the item, Umbriel will turn around and gladly accept politely decline. "While I appreciate the offer, Mr. Stockspool, we need to take this with us to ensure it stays safe - if the giants were willing to descend from their strongholds to recover it, and having lost two of their own, I have no doubt that they'll try to send more agents after it, and whether you were to retain it or sell it to another party, I don't think that would end well. I'm sure you understand, we're trying to save as many lives as possible."

Are you going to try and speak with the dead fire giants?
What is the party going to try to do with the huge chunk of adamantine in the ground?
First things first, Baeshra will try and tie it up to their mule and horse to see if they can pull it out of the ground and get it up on a cart.
Baeshra runs over and gets the mule and spends a half hour hooking it up to the ring in the ground. The mule heaves and strains. Make a Strength check for the mule and an Animal Handling check for yourself.

1. What were you digging for?
2. Who is your master?
3. The adamantine object - what does it do?
4. Where did you come from?
5. What else are you seeking?
Droop is successful, and returns, along with a new healing kit since he used all of his charges.
Okksort's eyes flutter open, giving new meaning to the phrase "Dead Eyes" for those of you that haven't seen this before. His chest moves as he inhales a large amount of air and begins answering questions:

"The ring."
2. Who is your master?
"Duke Zalto."
3. The adamantine object - what does it do?
"It is part of...the Vonindod."
4. Where did you come from?
"Ironslag."
5. What else are you seeking?
"Food."
"Vonindod?", Lyngheid echos wracking her brain to think if she'd heard the term before.

Ah OK. We'll get to the Longbow in a bit.
For the lift, your enlarged self and Lyngheid strain mightily, and are able to lift up one end of the huge hunk of adamantine.
You figure that you'll be able to rig something up to get it onto a wagon, should the party decide to go that route.
