"Perhaps he is hunting? Although, our rations are not low. Or perhaps commune with the forest? His knowledge is impressive, I would not be surprised if his gifts were magical."Xarrothlooks amongst the clearing for any signs or tracks... while trying to remain quiet.
"He wouldn't have left his crossbow if he was hunting." Lia points out as she picks up the item. She glances around, trying to figure out which way he went.
Even with the full moon glowing over you, tracks are not easy to find in the night forest. You wander around aimlessly for a while without finding any signs. Thankfully you manage to stay well hidden, Lothlién even manages to stop Xarroth just before the dragonborn steps on a dried branch.
If you want to keep searching, roll another group survival check (you can skip this if you prefer to go back to your campsite). If you want to stay hidden, roll another group stealth check (you can skip this if you want to start shouting).
You wander around for a couple hours, finding no sign of your missing companion. Still you manage to keep quiet and don't attract any predators that may be hunting during the night.
Sabastian stops in a branch nearby and suddenly perches up, stares for a moment at a blackthorn bush some 40 feet away and hoots once.
With Sabastian perched on her shoulder, Lia hears some leaves rustling as she approaches the bushes. She could swear that a shadow moved out of them and silently dashed away, but there is no evidence of anyone hiding here.
Bonding with her familiar, she notices that Sabastian is baffled. The owl believes that something or someone should be here.
Sunrise is a couple hours away, this is the last chance to roll for Survival and Stealth if you want to keep searching.
"Should we give up the stealth part and just call his name, or do you two think it's too dangerous?" Lothliénasks, implying on his tone that he would like tho shout out for their friend, but he'll not do it if Xarroth and Lia don't agree.
The trio tries to keep searching without making noise. Other than a scared rabbit, you find only trees and vegetation. As the sky begins to brighten you return back to your campsite to grab something to eat. Some time after the sun rises, Rhok stumbles back into the campsite. His clothes are dirty and his pants don't seem to fit him well anymore.

"Rhok, what in the Nine Hells happened to you? We were worried, looking for you all night long. You don't look very well..." Lothlién says, reliefed that his friend is back, but still worried.

Rhokholds his head in his hand, shaking it slowly "I....I'm not sure what happened..." hesays with an exhausted tone, and starts to rub and scratch at a grey patch on his arm and begins muttering "It all feels like a dream, I was tossing, turning, and then it felt like something was pulling and tearing at me....I saw the moon and it felt it, like pulling at me, beckoning me to get into the woods, and into a small clearing so I could feel it shine onto me.....then I don't really remember what happened until I found myself in the middle of the woods, but close to camp. My clothes feel like they were stretched out, but I don't feel like I lost any weight...and this stupid grey patch just constantly itches, and I have a splitting headache. I'm sorry if this kept you all up all night" "I might need to have a talk with the healer we helped move back into Phandalin and perhaps she may have an idea..."
Lia grimaces as she hears Rock's tale of the night. "We searched all night." She says as she covers a yawn. "I think we are staying put, at least for a while, as heading out now would leave us all at the mercy of whatever comes across us. Best just take turns with watch and get some sleep, then head out later."

Xarroth CON Save: 24
Xarroth lets out a mighty yawn, "A fever dream, perhaps? A rare occurrence. Pray it passes quickly. It sounds only wise to see someone about that: do those of softskin usually have patches of skin like that?"
