Port Damali, she replies. Best of a lot of bad options. Gods. Let's hope that twerp Voskiir is as stupid as he looks. I don't think he got a good sight of me, but you lot. Well, if I were you I'd keep my head down. And stay away from the Docks. And change my name. And my face. If Three Earrings finds out we're alive, we'll wish the sahuagin witch had cut off our heads and put shark heads there.
Silent frowns. If we stay on the Coast she'll find us. And hell, she'll definitely find Pockets and his folks. You think it's worth trying to make peace with the Captain? I know we screwed this up real bad but we gotta be more use to her alive than dead right? Haven't stabbed her in the back yet, at least...
"This may certainly be bigger than just the captain. We are dealing with the inner politics of an entire region. Is there no one else we can reach out too for aid? This all just feels... big for us." Keyo keeps his gaze downward towards the ground, clearly exhausted from the events of the day.
You failed, Dajarkal says bluntly. Three Earrings has no further use for you. She invested money in you, and you failed. Best case scenario, you spend the next five years working on Darktow to pay off your debt. Or maybe she'll put collars round your neck and sell you to the highest bidder. Maybe she'll dump your sorry carcasses in the ocean. Take my advice: don't find out.
**** her. Pockets mutters. She can come after me if she wants. I’m not going to make it easy for her. He turns and faces the group.
That’s for another day. I’m only worried about now. If parley is out of the question, then let’s consider our other options. Who exactly do we deliver this message to?
Voskiir from the Concord wants us dead. Dajarkal says Three Earrings wants us dead - if she holds real sway in the Revelry, they'll have our heads on spikes. Choosing between two evils here and there's no guarantee either of them will believe us.
The way I see it, we take one hell of a gamble and become diplomats... or we cut and run, forget this ever happened.Silent grimaces. Die as a hero or live as a coward...
I don’t think this is a binary situation. Voskiir wants her, sure. He might even remember us. But he’s not the Concord. Just a privateer with a grudge. Personally, he’s a threat, but he doesn’t run things. Hmmm...I have an idea.
Pockets empties out his coat pockets into the makeshift sack and backpack. He then takes his dagger and starts to cut his hair.
Change of plans. I volunteer to take this message to the Clovis Concord. I’ll find separate passage back to Port Damali. I’ll use my given name. Hardly anyone knows me by it now, anyway. I’ll tell people my Captain was killed by the Sahuagin and they gave me a message. I’ll do what I can to get the word out. We can part ways here. He then takes his coat and tosses it on the beach. You can get word out, too. This way, at least, we can decrease the chance of being noticed as a group and increase our chances of getting the message to someone who might care.
Arael sits and listens to the chatter around her, weighing the options.
I don’t have anywhere to go, or anything to lose. Slavery on Darktow is not on my short-list, but neither is begging for forgiveness from Voskiir and his ilk.
Perhaps the Concord will look favorably on us if we offer up information on Three Earrings and her crew in addition to knowledge of the events at Palma Flora.
We can always tell the authorities the truth, Palma Flora was attacked, we sought refuge where we could and that happened to be with pirates. We didn’t know that, at the time, and when Voskiir attacked, we did what seemed smart, kept our heads and our hides.
"Honesty is always admirable. We did what was necessary for our survival. We even attempted to end the Sea Devil crisis and save the remaining villagers from a violent ritual. Sure things didn't go as planned, but we certainly did no evil."
Mowett the former prisoner says goodbye to you after breakfast. Thank you again. I hope one day to see you in Palma Flora, after we have rebuilt.
The five of you (including Dajarkal) set off heading north along the Vezdali Peninsula, through the forest known as the Vezdaweald, then down through the hills to the north of Port Damali. The journey is perhaps 170 miles, and should take you around seven days if you travel at a normal pace. You can choose to go slower and more stealthily to avoid trouble, or faster - but that increases your chance of encounters. Unless you say otherwise, I'll assume a normal pace.
We'll break this up into three sections: two days through the grasslands towards the forest, three days in the Vezdaweald itself, and two days through the hills. Dajarkal offers to act as your guide; she hasn't travelled this particular territory before, or at least not on land, but she has a good knowledge of the natural world and can attempt to find hidden trails, as well as foraging for food as you go.
The countryside of the Vezdali Peninsula is lovely, verdant and lush. You see a fair number of beautiful flowers and unusual birds as you travel. There are a few small woods here and there, and some patches of thick bushes.

Dajarkal does a decent job of keeping you out of line of sight of the coast, and you don't see Three Earrings' ship out to sea any more.
Can I have one person to keep a lookout as you are walking, and then three people to make Perception checks to stand watch?

They can’t fault us for that, surely?

Silent has drawn his greatsword over the course of the conversation and has been studying it with a deep scowl on his face.
Sounds like you're all thinking of seeing this thing through to the bitter end. Are we sticking together then? Until Port Damali, at least.
Let's get to Port Damali, then.

Pockets will keep a lookout.
(OOC: I think Silent has the best passive perception/perception bonus, if that skill is applied to being the lookout he'll take that role)
Yes, sorry, the lookout for travelling should also roll Perception. :)
(OOC: Pockets will just roll then. Silent can be lookout.)

Silent's lookout check: Perception - 7
[check]Perception[/check]: 9
Perception: 11
