I haven't either, but there's a first time for everything.
I can say, this is my first time slogging through a jungle and I hate it here. Does anyone know how much longer until we get back to some sort of civilization?
Silent and Arael, these frogs are a little different from the giant frogs in your homelands, but close enough. The meat is not poisonous; it's actually very nutritious, though the taste is rather meh without a good kitchen of spices and herbs to work with.
Dajarkal says: Another day or so through the forest. Probably less. Then three or four more days round and down to Port Damali. Though I'm thinking of giving that a miss.
There's a village not too far from the northern end of the forest; we might find someone there with a boat to take us over the water. That will be quicker. If we think it's safe. That sahuagin probably knows you've abandoned your deal by now, so maybe the water isn't the best idea at the moment.
The rest of the night passes without incident. If anyone is planning to cook some frog meat, that's easy enough to do at a basic level; roll a d20 (adding your proficiency modifier if you have cooking tools and are proficient with them) if you want to try and make it taste nice.
The morning comes, and you make it out of the forest. You have the option to take the long way round overland, or head to the village and find a shortcut over sea. What would you like to do?
A mess kit's not the same as cook's tools, so sadly no proficiency bonus, but that's still a nat 20. Despite Silent's lack of cooking skill, there's just something flavourful about the meat - it's much better than you all expected. Maybe something to do with what the frogs have been eating recently. In any case, you all get a very good breakfast before you set off for the day.
"There is obviously a certain risk if we were to go to the village. Honestly though, these woods have been treacherous enough, and I could certainly use the comfort of an inn." Keyo attempts to shake some of the grime out of his robes. "and perhaps a bath as well..."
(OOC: My interpretation was that getting a boat from Claybeach will be the fastest route to Port Damali)
Silent nods. Was hoping to steer clear of water for a good long while... but getting this message out fast is more important. If they wanna pick a fight, so much the worse for them. We won't lose twice.
After leaving the forest behind you, you make good speed and reach the village of Claybeach before sunset. People are friendly and greet you as you enter; despite living close to the dangers of the forest and the sea, this is a welcoming community.
It's easy enough to find a tavern in the centre of the village; most of the customers are locals, though as you enter the common room, you do see one dwarf woman who may be from out of town - she wears a red cloak that is unusual in a relatively poor village. She has a companion - a tall human man who might be a bodyguard.
She certainly doesn't look like a fisher or ferry captain, but you see plenty of locals seated at long tables, relaxing and chatting, drinking and eating what smells like freshly-cooked fish.
Well now, welcome young man. Aren't you in a hurry, and no mistake. Why don't you introduce yourself and your four fine friends over there? As for me myself, the name's Tommet Hyran, and I'm delighted to meet five strangers who've wandered into the small village I call home.
The elderly half-elf behind the bar has a twinkle in his eye - you're not entirely sure how serious he is.
Nature 14
You can eat almost anything if you cook it right. This is not the adventure I had planned, that's for sure.
I’ve never eaten frogs legs that were of the more expected size, this could be quite a delicacy. And here I am without my magic spice pouch.

An excellent question. Hopefully not far. I'd hate to run into any other reptilians/frog/fish people.

We haven't abandoned the deal. I have every intention of passing that message along to someone.
Dajarkal just shrugs and grunts.

Silent has a mess kit, he'll start slicing off hunks of frog with the greatsword and attempt to fry the meat in the cooking pan over a fire.
Cooking check: 12

So, the village then? Dajarkal asks. It's called Claybeach. Don't know much about it, but had a crewmate from there once.
(OOC: How far are we from Port Damali? Pockets might continue on to the city on his own if it's not far.)

(OOC: Works for me.)
I'm just sick of this jungle. If a boat will get us back to civilization sooner, I'll take the risk

Pockets walks up to the bar. Have you any rooms to let? If so, how much do they run by the night?

I’m Eldon, and these are my associates: Halfsy, Orky, Elfy and Halfsy 2. The two Halfsys can workout the order.
Clearly, I'm Halfsy. We're only looking for a room and a bath to wash this infernal jungle off.
