With a brutal final punch to the beak, and another to the eye, the blood-spattered owlbear falls down to the ground, dead.
There's a silence. Then Gran speaks to the watching villagers:
Well, don't just stand there gawking. We need to dress this thing before the meat goes off. And I don't know about you, but I reckon there's a fair few in this village could use a nice new winter cloak, eh? Well, move it!
Silence, then an uproarious cheer as some villagers run off to get their tools, while others rush up to congratulate Gran and her two helpers.
Silent is looking around for the villager who had just been attacked before the fight started - he wants to make sure that they aren't in immediate danger and will attempt to bind any wounds or staunch any bleeding if it seems warranted.
Silent, you see a very badly wounded woman who is being tended to by another, much older woman who has a pouch of herbs in her hand and she inspects the wound.
Magnum, there's a gasp from the surrounding villagers when you lay your hands on the woman and her wound seals up in an instant. She looks shocked for a moment, and then even more shocked as she touches her now smooth, unblemished skin. That... that was....
Healing magic, says the older woman next to her, putting her herbs away.l A nice skill to have. She looks over to Silent. You look a little young to be one of Katya's old adventuring pals, but you, and she turns to Magnum, who knows how old you are. What...
A sharp voice interrupts. Didn't anyone ever teach you not to ask a gentleman his age on a first date, Sooda Cubberworth? Gran has comes up and is standing with her hand on her hips and an unreadable expression on her face.
And how is that any of your business, Katya Tannerson? the apparent Sooda says as she stands.
There's a strange tension between the two woman that's not easy to interpret. But nothing seems to come of it. Sooda escorts the woman you healed off to her home, and Gran, or 'Katya' if you prefer, shrugs as they walk away. Come on. Let's have a little chat. She heads back into her house as the rest of the village descends upon the owlbear corpse.
Silent also follows, saying to Magnum, Those gauntlets of yours pack a real punch, eh? The bugger was this close from gutting me when it sorta seized up, gave me an opening to dodge its attack.
They emit a disorienting pulse when they come into contact with a target. I have to hit them just right, but if I do, the target can’t focus on anyone else.
That's a nice trick, nicer than healing and that's for sure, Gran says. She looks at Magnum's gauntlets and grins. Wouldn't like to fight you. I reckon you could do a lot of damage and make a lot of trouble with those things.
Anyhow, this is how it is. You might be thinking that you did a great job, killed double the owlbears, get double the reward. Except that's not how it works. I got what I got, and I ain't got more. You get the potions you were promised So, this going to be a problem?
She eyes you both warily as Emi, entering through the door, freezes and looks concerned.
I did not. I found the tracks of one, not of two. She looks a little annoyed, possibly at the question, possibly at her own mistake, it's not clear. I did look for other tracks, but this isn't mating season after all. Well, what's done is done.
Please understand, I’m not accusing you of anything, but your granddaughter did hire us to kill wolves. So there’s a precedent of misinformation. I was merely concerned. It’s of no consequence now.
Glad to hear it, says Gran, and there's definitely a note of relief in her voice.
She goes to a stone in the wall, loosens it, then removes it and takes a leather pack out from behind it.
You do know I know that's there, Emi says, right Gran?
Yes, girl. And we both know what would happen if you borrowed anything. The pair exchange the look of people who know each other very well, and Gran hands Magnum the pouch which contains three small vials of liquid.
Thankyou, Gran says. Thank you for coming. Thank you for fighting well. Two owlbears might have produced babies in the spring. Hungry babies that could have cost a lot of lives round here. This was a good thing you did. You're good lads, and I hope the road treats you well.
Magnum, although you do not need to drink, you can if you wish identify potions by tasting a single drop, as anyone else could.
(OOC: Just to make sure, I double checked. The Disadvantage on attacks to other people lasts until the start of my next turn.)
Thwack!
Another hit. The owlbear is looking shaky now.
Silent is up.
Back on the ground, Silent will lash out at the owlbear and Unleash Incarnation to have his Echo mirror his strike.
Silent's Attack 12 Damage: 12
Echo's Attack 21 Damage: 14
Silent, your own strike goes wide, but the owlbear's dodge takes it right into the path of your Echo's blade.
The owlbear goes for Magnum again:
Attack: 20 Damage: 20
*sigh* Even without disadvantage, that missed.
The owlbear once again fails to land a blow with its claws, but stabs with its beak:
Attack: 27 Damage: 15
Nope.
Gran steps in to try to finish it off:
Attack: 11 Damage: 1

Magnum offers to heal with the civilian using Cure Wounds.

Magnum follows Katya.

I don’t really do this for the reward, though it’s appreciated. My only concern is if you knew there were two owl bears.

Magnum will identify the potions after they leave.
Silent asks Gran, Anything else worth doin' here in the village? May as well help out some other folk while we're here before we head back to Alfield.
