Robwin looks at prosper, a little abashed, “You’re right, we have all stayed close... But I like the idea of a code word. We could use the name of my familiar?... Or we could hand around the trophies from the last fight. Only the real ‘us’ will be able to produce one...”.
Then to Pog and Ulla: “You two, stay with us. It’ll be safer together, and we could definitely use your magics! We three can all cast mage hand. We could move slowly through this place ‘poking’ everything we see with our mage hands?! Rugs, chests, other gnomes! Poke poke poke! While keeping a bit of distance. And if we really want to make sure.. the odd arrow here and there might be in order”.
“Also, what are the Kings’ names?” OOC: Then assuming he gets them, using their names he asks the one by the door if he is alright and if he’s safe in there, and then asks about his husband and if he’s okay or if he’s an imminent danger to himself or to him. Then as privately as possible through the door to the king: “I’m no stranger to, uh, ‘an imbalance of the mind’, of sorts, shall we say... it is all part of life, no?”
Assuming the Kings seem safe together, Robwin is keen to proceed super cautiously (as described) to the last three places mentioned (throne room, kitchen, domiciles).
Tahnis glances around the room. "Perhaps we could bait this creature. We go into the kitchen or domiciles and we hide in the shadows and wait for it to strike."

"A rug?" Vimak says. "Shapeshifters . . . Can they imitate people and things or just things? Or just people?"
He reaches in his pack for the piece of the manticore. He seems to be making sure he still has it more than anything else. "If we're sure it's not with the kings, and it doesn't sound like it is, then searching by moving from room to room sounds like a good idea." He looks at Pog and Ulla, trusting them initially, but then his expression becomes more skeptical. "Which of the three rooms the king mentioned is closest? Should we start there?" Vimak makes a point of walking behind Pog and Ulla from now on.
Robwin moves over to Vimak rather sheepishly, “I’m sorry Vimak. You’re clearly you!” he says, raising his eyebrows a little and poking him in the arm a couple of times (with his real hand) nonetheless “I knew that!”.
”And I think you picking up the rear isn’t a bad idea... you would be the hardest to, ‘take quietly’, I think!... Oh, and have you taken a look at that crossbow? You think you can work with that?”.
”Hmm...and if you want, I can lend you... um, ‘my familiar’... If she sits on your shoulder she can easily swivel in all directions and keep a good watch front and back with you!! What do you say?”.
Pog and Ulla take out their wands. "Yes! That's a great idea! If we poke it, it must show itself!"
"Oh and the kings' names are King Korboz and King Gnerkil. The one we're speaking to now is King Korboz. The closest room is the throneroom just down the corridor over there and to the right."
As Robwin asks his question, King Korboz shouts. "OF COURSE I AM! You think I'd be in here if it wasn't!? You think I'm crazy, huh!? WELL IM NOT! EVERYONE ELSE OUT THERE IS!" Notably, though, King Gnerkil does not answer.
"Yes, that makes sense." Prosper agrees, suddenly businesslike as she draws her rapier to use as her own poker. "How about if we start at one end of the caves and sweep through the passages one bye one? The faster we find the shapeshifter, the faster we can see the kings. Vimak, are you fine with taking rearguard? I'll stay near the front, unless anyone else wants to take the position, but Ulla, Pog, you might have to lead us. Don't worry, we'll keep you safe."
She doesn't react to the king's shouts, but from her expression it's obvious that she doesn't believe King Korboz. "The sooner we get them out, the better, yes?"
Robwin looks at Prosper, “Are you sure? That rapier puts you awfully up-close-and-personal... We can poke from 30ft away. It’s up to you. We’ll keep you safe, no matter what you choose”.
And then to the group: “Anyone with a ranged-weapon, make sure you’re ‘ready’... we may get a volley in before it has time to do very much...”.
Robwin is ready. He will stay near the front, behind the gnomes, poking anything that comes within 30ft as we move through (hanging-lights, chains, pictures, crates, anything).
He’s happy for Pog and Ulla to dictate the most sensible route through this maze...
”Oh and I still have these,” he says, holding up one and then the other potion of healing. “Adas, are you the best custodian of these? Or should we spread them around the group?”.
"I will be fine with the crossbow and don't mind being in the back," Vimak says to Robwin. "Your owl on my shoulder is fine as well. It can watch my back as I watch everyone else's."
He nods to Prosper and says, "Your plan is a good one. Room by room." Vimak will follow the others, including Adas and Tahnis toward the throne room.
(So everyone ready to go around the caves and poke stuff? Marching order is currently Pog and Ulla leading at the front, then Prosper and Vimak in the back. Adas, Tahnis and Robwin, where do you guys want to be?)
[Prosper is chill with being near the middle then, if Adas and Robwin want to take point w/Ulla and Pog.] "Don't worry." She reassures Robwin cheerfully. "I'm nimble, I can dodge out of the way, no problem."
Robwin clasps Adas by the shoulder and nods, “Yes, sensible... hmm...”.
He makes a quick tally of who has healing and then passes one potion of healing to Prosper, and, after a little more thought, one potion of healing to Vimak. “These should be a last resort... so let’s hope we don’t need them!”.
He gives Lia a tickle under her cheek messing up all the feathers there. “You know you can sit this one out if you’d rather”. She lets out a defiant shriek and reaffirms her grip on the mail covering Vimak’s shoulder, already casting her gaze around while getting her feathers back straight.
“Ok let’s go”, he says, moving back up beside Adas and behind the gnomes.
(OOC: 2x potions of healing removed from equipment)
Pog and Ulla lead the party to the the throne room, only a short walk around the corner. Pushing open a set of wooden double doors, you see two squat thrones situated atop a stone dais, made of scrap metal and sized for gnomes. Pog, Ulla and Robwin all summon mage hands and begin poking around whilst the rest of the party poke things with their weapons. After a few minutes, however, nothing happens. "It probably already moved after failing to attack the king."
(Marching order: Pog and Ulla, Robwin and Adas, Prosper, Tahnis, Vimak. If there's anything you want to do in this room, just let me know. If not, I'll move onto the next.)
Vimak thanks Robwin. He tucks the potion into one of the pouches on his wide leather belt, next to his battle axe, his crossbow at the ready. Alert, he'll watch as many of the party as he can as they prod the contents of the room. When it's clear that nothing in the room is a shapeshifter, he says, "Next room, then? Back to the arguing gnomes?"

Leaving the throne room, Ulla and Pog lead you through the inventors' room where you see Fibblestib and Dabbledob already working hard on their Straitjacket, though Fibblestib is notable annoyed.
You head down a set of stairs to the north, arriving at the dormiciles, the same room you saw before when Lia first went around to scout. The floor of this cave is strewn with the remnants of old campfires. Four side caves serve as sleeping areas, with five small wooden cots crammed into each one. Eight rock gnome recluses sleep soundly here, with two gnomes in each side cave.
You all go around poking things again, trying your best to not wake the sleeping gnomes up, at the request of Pog and Ulla. Unfortunately, Pog accidentally pokes on of the sleeping gnomes who wakes up in a start.
"AH! Wha-what's going on!?" A female gnomes wakes up, wand already in hand as Pog rushes forward to shush her. "Shhh!" A few other gnomes begin to stir, but have yet to wake up. She looks confused and scared.
Tahnis is going to watch Pog and the sleeping gnome's interaction to see if the latter is hostile. He'll also keep an eye on the other sleeping gnomes.
