Robwin says quietly to Ulla “Are these all your friends? Are they all friendly? We’ll somehow need to check that no one is a shapeshifter, but without causing too much panic too! Can you calm this one? And maybe let’s keep the others asleep until we need them? Is there anything we can ask them? Something about the past (before the shapeshifter), that an intruder wouldn’t know? Something about gnome culture that only gnomes would get right?? But top priority maybe should be keeping everyone calm and as many asleep as possible for now?”.
Vimak stays in the back of the room, watchful, like Tahnis. He sees Robwin and Ulla trying to calm one of the gnomes and thinks about going over to help, but knows a looming goliath is to likely to calm a sleep gnome. He stays were he is, wishing he knew more about shapeshifters. Do they need to sleep? Could one imitate flames? He squeezes his crossbow. "No reason to get the fears," he mutters to himself. "We out number it, right?" he says to Tahnis. "It can't divide itself up, right?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tahnis glances at Vimak. "Not to my knowledge."
OOC: Tahnis' favored enemy is aberration. He's going to do an intelligence check to recall if any of the information the gnomes has given the party could point to the shapeshifter being an aberration.

I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
Prosper gives a cheerful wave to the two gnomes as they pass the inventor's room, seemingly oblivious to Fibblestib's irritation as she follows the Ulla and Pog through the caves.
She takes a few steps forward when the sleeping gnome awakes, but keeps some distance between them, worried that the gnome would see her moving towards them a sign of aggression. Keeping her voice low but carrying: "Don't worry, it's fine! We're helping the kings flush out the shapeshifter. I'm sorry we woke you up, we'll keep our noise down and hopefully we won't wake up anyone else."
(@Tahnis, unfortunately, the description given to you by the gnomes so far don't seem to correlate to any aberration you know of.)
Upon seeing Pog and Ulla, the gnome calms down a bit but still looks panicked at the presence of the rest of the group. She looks around cautiously as she makes her way to the rest of the group quietly. Ulla shrugs at Robwins questioning."Yeah, these are all our friends, we know everyone who lives in these caves but we don't really have a way to tell if they're shapeshifters or not."At the mention of the shapeshifter, the gnome stiffens and looks at the group even more cautiously."S-shapeshifter? W-we don't know anything about any shapeshifter."
Robwin thinks and mentions to Pog and Ulla, “Hmm... poked, and woke up nicely like a gnome, rather than on the offensive... Are you both convinced this is one of your friends? Or could it still be the the shapeshifter?“.
”Also, can you ALL do magic? Mage hand and frost blast, or whatever it is? I wonder if a shapeshifter could do spells like gnomes can”.
(OOC: assuming ALL gnomes can do magic maybe we ask this one to show us their mage hand...)
Vimak will move slowly around the room, looking into each of the four smaller caves. He's careful not to bump his head or knock any of the tiny furniture over, but he does tap all of it with the tip of his crossbow.
"Yes, little gnome," he whispers, "can you do some magic so we can be sure you're not the shapeshifter? Or Pog and Ulla, can you vouch for all these folk?"
The gnome looks at the group nervously, Pog and Ulla giving her an encouraging look, before flicking her wand and summoning a translucent purple hand. "T-there. I did it. N-now what?"
As Vimak goes around poking things, no shapeshifter appears. Pog and Ulla nod at Vimak. "Yep, we know all these people. All of us can do at least the most basic of magic. These wands help with that."
Robwin moves gently over to the waking-up gnome, “Thank you kind gnome, you’ve been most helpful.” And then to the rest of the team: “We’ll, that does it for me! If these shapeshifters can do proper magic, we have bigger problems!” He manages a nervous chuckle “Ahah...”.
He then gathers with Pog and Ulla. “Pog, Ulla: I think we need to do this for each of them in turn... wake them with a poke, calm them, then check they can do basic magic.... Then when we’re happy with this room, I suggest they all hunker down here, together, for safety - until we’ve cleared the rest of this place!”.
Prosper sticks both thumbs up when the gnome casts mage hand. "That's enough for our purposes! Not that knowing their faces is particularly useful when there's a shapeshifter around... but since your magical abilities are probably uncopiable, we'll take it for now! I'd feel really bad about waking them up if we don't have to... hmm, Ulla, how long do you typically sleep for? Will the be waking up soon anyway? The best idea I have is sealing them in this room while we go looking - it'll keep them safe if they're not going to be waking up any time soon, but it still seems rather rude."
Pog and Ulla get ready to poke some gnomes before Prosper asks her questions. They both shrug. "We don't really have a sleep schedule? We just do our work and then sleep afterwards." The female gnome nods. "We finished a shift in the kitchens before taking a nap here. I don't know how long ago that was, though." Pog waves his hand dismissively. "It should be fine! They won't mind a bit of a poking. They'll probably go back to sleep right afterwards! Us gnomes, we're good sleepers!" You notice that Pog seems to be excited at the prospect of poking his fellow gnomes.
Robwin’s been thinking about their route and turns to Ulla, “On our way here from the throne room, we passed a passage South (directly South of the Kings’ bedroom). What’s down there?”.
Vimak watches as each of the gnomes are woken and do their magic. If any both fail to cast a spell and attack, he has his crossbow ready.
If, on the other hand, the gnomes all pass, he will say to the others, "I noticed the door Robwin mentions as well. And there were some doors on the other side of the waterfall, the bridge. We might need to check those out."
One by one, Ulla and Pog poke each of the gnomes awake and calm them down. All the gnomes manage to summon their own mage hands. At the question of the room to the south, "Oh, that's just the treasury. There's no way the shapeshifter could get in there. Its locked up tight!"
Robwin smiles and seems satisfied with that, knowing that Vimak has been moving round the room poking everything else. Then he frowns a little “Hmm... what if this shapeshifter can pick locks? I’d sure feel safer if we could check in the treasury too, before we move on to the Eastern passages...”.
"You sure about that?"Prosper asks, out of methodical necessity rather than of malice. "You weren't expecting a shapeshifter either, and here we are. Not to cast doubt on your defenses, of course, but I agree with Robwin."
Tahnis nods. "The shapeshifter could have disguised themselves as one of you and grabbed the key or something and gotten into the treasury. I think it might be a good idea to check the treasury."

"Yes," Vimak says, "if you can get us in there, Ulla and Pog, we ought to check it. Can't have the shapeshifter sneaking up behind us. If even you can't get us in, maybe we can bar the door so if it is in the treasury it won't be able to come after us. If it isn't in there and we bar the door somehow at least it won't be able to hide there."
Pog scratches his chin. "Hrmm. I suppose you're right. To the treasury!"
Pog and Ulla lead the group back the direction they came from, stopping in the inventors room for a moment to ask Fibblestib and Dabbledob for the key. They lead you to a sturdy looking wooden door with an heavy steel lock. Ulla unlocks the door easily and you all head in. Inside the room, you see it contains a jumble of nonfunctional gnomish gizmos, as well as loose gears, twisted bits of metal, and other such scraps the gnomes most likely use to cobble together new inventions.
After a few minutes of poking and searching, taking a little longer than usual due to the amount of things in the room, nothing happens. Pog puffs up his chest. "See! Told ya. There's no way the shapeshifter could've gotten in here!"
(Sorry, can't update the map atm but I'm sure you all know where the Treasury is, anyways.)
