There are cabin ruins that have been mostly torn down on the left side of the map - their ruins stand atop a 10-foot-high escarpment of rock.
In the center of the map is more cabin ruins with a ruined fireplace whose chimney has mostly collapsed, with a stone foundation.
Between them both is a house that is still standing.
North tents towards the right of the map: A dead campfire is surrounded by six tents, each containing a bedroll and a mess. DC10 INT (Investigation): ????
The tents and bedrolls have been partially dissolved by some kind of acid spray at the camp on the right, both of them. Footprints and strange marks in the sand suggest several humanoids were attacked here and dragged away - they were killed and dragged down into the sand by some sort of burrowing monster. what could have done this?
Lanarial stays hidden, but durveys the evidence and tries to remember any thing about a burrowing creature that spits, or secretes, acid. He was unsure how good his arrows would be against such a creature...He resolved to ask the giant man if he could enchant his bow, or check with his new contact in Phandalin about procuring a magical one.

"I think I found what did this...." Iri says in a hesitant voice as she backs up towards Tex. Reaching out her hands the ground underneath the creatures before spikes shoot out. Every 5ft a creature in that 20ft radius sphere moves, they take 2d4 piercing damage and it is now difficult terrain so half movement in there as well.
