Aluzira, a bit unsure what all to do, gives a slight bow to the new people before following Huggin out. “If you don’t mind me asking, for what reason did you all come down here?” She asks as he feeds the lizards. She feels like she could ask about a dozen different questions but settles with the one.
"I might ask you the same question," Huggin replies with a knowing look as he retrieves chunks of raw meat from the sack and tosses them into the giant lizards' open mouths. "You say you're traveling companions, but this is no place to travel through to get anywhere, unless it's to the lower world, and your troupe doesn't strike me as one that's making for the lower world."
"No," he says, regarding the halflings and the rest of the group, "I reckon your reason for being here is the same as what brought us down: treasure! My liege, Countess Ismeina, is planning on making quite a haul with these beauties," he says referring to the lizards, "and she don't want to share with anyone but with her two friends and what they're paying the rest of us. That's why they want you to be on your way, so they can get to exploring what's behind all those doors in that room, but maybe I already said too much..." he says as he reaches the end of his bag.
“You reckoned right, in a sense that is. We were sent down by the leaders of the city above to clear this place of any evil creatures lurking here and in return could keep any of the treasure we found. Somewhere along the way we ran into these fine halflings who’s business is there own to share if they wish, but we’ve been traveling together for a time now.” Aluzira says in reply to Huggin with a smile. “I can understand why she would want us to be on our way, although perhaps we may be able to help each other? If of course that is alright with everyone!” Aluzira says quickly looking towards her companions to see what they think.
Anakis scrunches up her nose at Aluzira's query, but says nothing. They were rude from the outset and didn't want to talk at all. She didn't trust that they would be fair in splitting any treasure and that they would likely use her travelling companions as bait or lunch for whatever they happened across down here.
Seeing Anakis scrunching her nose, Huggin smiles and replies to Aluzira's suggestion, "I don't think your traveling companion would find such an arrangement to be agreeable. And besides," he states emphatically, "it ain't going to happen. The ladies in there and their elven friend want to keep this job in as small a circle as possible. They're quite capable combatants themselves and think they can handle anything, should we run into any trouble down here. I know I wouldn't want to mess with them! It's best you be on your way. Good luck to you in your adventures." He stands, waiting for you to leave.
Anakis will slowly move over to the main lizard she interacted with when they originally came into the room. She tentatively reaches out to pat it's shoulder and she leans in to whisper, "Take care, mister lizard. And if they don't treat you kindly, you come find me and Custard, okay?"
She stands, gives Huggin a sarcastic little curtsy, and then turns and makes her way back the way they came, waiting for the others to join once she gets through the door.
Aluzira nods in understanding, “Same to you and your companions,” she says before turning to follow Anakis. “They were certainly an interesting group,” she says quietly, while fidgeting with her dagger.
After passing through the room full of dung, traveling down the zig-zagging corridor with its mounds of fungus, and navigating around the deadly pit-trap, a twenty foot wide passageway to the right lies before you, and thirty feet farther on, there are two more five-foot wide passages, one to the right and one to the left. The hall you are in goes straight forward into the darkness all the way back to the chimney and beyond. Which way do you go?
"Your guess is as good as mine," says Remacle, peering down the passageway into the darkness. "What do you say, Miss Aluzira? Perhaps our fortune lies in this direction..."
After traveling along the passage for about ten minutes, your path meandering through the hillocks of the fungus garden, you can see that up ahead the tunnel ends in a wall of hard, sparkling granite. About thirty feet before the dead end, a ten-foot wide hallway branches off to the left, and looking around the corner, you can see that after another thirty feet the hallway is intersected by a five-foot wide passage that goes in both directions. Torrent continues to walk in front with Anakis along the hallway which extends forward into the darkness, and as the intersection is approached you can see that the five-foot wide passage also extends straight on in both directions. To the left, it goes back in the direction from which you came, and to the right, it continues on into the gloom. Mounds of fungus are spaced along each corridor.
"Hmm," says Remacle, "it seems we've come to another blind decision. Lead the way Anakis, and we will follow."
Anakis looks both ways down the five foot wide corridor and decides to go right, away from their original passageway and into the darkness more. She continues to move slowly and carefully, keeping an eye out for traps as she does move.
After walking in single file for another ten minutes, the corridor turns right and widens to ten feet. After another thirty feet, it runs into another dead end. There are signs that construction of the tunnel was abandoned here as well. Assuming you all retrace your steps, after another ten minutes, the intersection is arrived at once again.
"So, right this time?" Remacle asks, indicating the ten-foot wide passageway.
"Hmm, I guess so," Anakis pouts, "This place is such a maze. Let's go right this time." She once again creeps slowly and quietly down the corridor, keeping an eye out for traps.
The corridor continues straight on for another ten minutes of travel. The fungal gardens, some of them glowing with a faint bioluminescence as you pass them, growing more sparse and farther apart, with still no sign of the gardeners themselves being seen. Eventually, you come to the top of a flight of broad stairs leading steeply down into the darkness. With your superior vision, Anakis, you can see that after nearly ninety feet of descent the corridor continues at the bottom of the stairs. The halflings seem nervous about going even deeper into the earth and begin to talk among themselves. Do you follow the perceived will of your patron, Anakis, and lead the group down into the shadows?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Anakis whispers to the others as to what she can see, then turns and starts making her way carefully down the stairs, motioning for them to follow. She continues her slow and careful movement forward, watching for traps and creatures as she does (not sure if you want another roll, so just in case - Stealth: 9 and Perception: 10).
Anakis, you now have Inspiration for following the perceived will of the Shadowlord, taking you further into the darkness.
About two thirds of the way down the stairs, as you come level with the ceiling of the lower passageway, you can see that about thirty feet past the bottom of the stairs is a "T" intersection, with a ten-foot hallway running in either direction.
While the strong smell of mold persists as you near the bottom of the stairway, the air is not so still, and a slight breeze can be felt moving through the hall and up the stairs. Where torchlight illuminates, a thick haze can be seen hanging in the air, and on the walls of the hallway can be seen thick webs of enormous size hanging and fluttering in the breeze.
As the bottom of the stair is reached, Torrent puts out his hand to stop you, Anakis, from stepping off the last stair and says, "Look! Somethin' ain't right there." He points to a round hole in the floor of the hallway, just past the lowest step, which is a few inches across and is somewhat obscured by a thick layer of dust.
