I'm not really interested in roleplaying your character for you because then I'm just playing (D&D) with myself. :) So unless there's something you'd like me to clarify, we can just say that Ulben is too indecisive (or oblivious, or concerned about his kidnapped wife, etc.) to do anything and move on from there, if that's alright with you. I'm just really not sure what you meant by "I'll follow" and shouldn't have to guess, so you'd have to tell me, and I'm not sure why asking for clarification caused you to change your mind, unless I added some new information that changed things. I'm not sure if you can see my signature (it isn't visible on my phone), but it isn't my job to say what your character does, and making an Intelligence check doesn't tell me what your character is doing. Edit: Mostly I'm just trying to avoid another misunderstanding about what Ulben is doing, because it seemed to me that you might have been responding to a different situation than the one I had meant to describe.
Anakis, you're about 10 feet out from the redwood trees which have very tall, straight trunks and would be very difficult to climb (DC 20). There are a few isolated ash trees on the marsh, however, bare of leaves, which are shorter and can be climbed into easily. There's one just 5 feet from you, in fact, that's about 60 feet tall. There's no guarantee, however, that the lizard wouldn't be able to climb up after you. The toad is in a prone position (which imposes disadvantage on ranged attacks) 115 feet from you, and the lizard is about 130 feet away in roughly the opposite direction. What do you do?
(Just want to clarify which direction the lizard is going? Is it coming towards me? From what I imagined, toad was out 115ft in front, and Torrent and Tarek were between the toad and I. You say the lizard is in opposite direction, so is the lizard behind me? Because when it first appeared, I thought you'd said it was off to the left of Torrent/Tarek, so just want to make sure I've got layout in my head right.)
Well, the lizard's behind and to the left, assuming you're facing the toad. You're basically at the vertex of a 120 degree angle between the toad at one end and the lizard at the other. The lizard's headed more toward Torrent and Tarek though, who are 30 and 45 feet in front of you respectively. It seems to have been drawn out by them because it saw them moving first.
Also, I was anticipating that as the chase progresses, that line is going to straighten out, but this is how things stand at the moment.
(Ah cool. Yeah, I figure it would straighten as well, but was just confused as to placement. Thank you!)
Anakis turns around to see what Torrent and Tarek are running from. "What is that?!" She turns back to face the toad, then runs in that direction, away from the lizard. After her movement, she wills a ball of fire into her palm and she throws it at the prone toad (Attack at Disadvantage: 9 Damage: 10). "We can't let another one get away!"
The mote of fire sails through the air 100 feet and strikes the toad where it lies giving it another black scorch mark. The toad pulls itself out of the mud, shaking sheets of ice off its body, and bounds forward a short way. Landing on solid ground, it jumps away again, this time twice as far, and lands firmly again. It looks back at its pursuers, more exhausted even than before.
In the wood, Fluin looks back at his friends who are being chased across the marsh by the giant lizard, currently on the other side of the frozen pool from him. "It looks like we lost the toad, Ulben," he calls ahead. "Come on, let's go help the others," he says to Ulben and Aluzira as he turns and runs back through the wood to intercept the lizard's path. As he runs, he lets one of his axes fall to the ground to free his hand, draws a javelin, and hurls it at the giant beast. Attack: 18 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
Fluin's javelin flies up into the air and plummets into the frozen pool, lodging in the ice.
Torrent, the scorched and exhausted toad is now 85 feet away from you, while the giant lizard is bearing down on you from just over 150 feet away across the marsh. What do you do?
Torrent, can I assume you continue to dash towards the toad?
Aluzira, with Ulben and Fluin having turned back towards you to rejoin the other half of your party, a freak gust of wind tears across the marsh and into the wood, picking up the smoldering ashes from Anakis' brief fire, and blows them towards you. Make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw to avoid being blinded for the rest of your turn, which will cut your speed in half.
Tarek tries to swat the midges out of his way as he continues to dash toward the toad. "For Pelor's sake, why can't anything in this wood leave us alone?"
Tarek's armor foils the midges' tiny bites, and he continues to lead the chase with Torrent close behind.
The lizard, focused on the pair, charges towards Torrent who seems like he might be an easier catch and gains some ground, now within 145 feet of the water genasi.
Ulben, the gust of wind that blew ashes into Aluzira's face also blows into yours as you follow her. Make a DC 10 Constitution saving throw to avoid being blinded by the ashes and having your speed cut in half as you try to navigate the uneven ground.
The ash burns your eyes Ulben, forcing your eyes to shut involuntarily. With your speed halved and the difficulty of the densely wooded terrain, you can only move 15 feet at a dash. What do you do?
Anakis, the approaching lizard is now 115 feet from you, still headed towards Torrent, while the fleeing toad is 100 feet from you. Between you and the toad, the cloud of midges that just tried to bite Tarek hangs in the air 30 feet away. What do you do?

Okay, by the end of your turn you're 55 feet from the toad.
Tarek, a thick swarm of biting midges arises out of the marsh and surrounds you. The toad is 70 feet away. What do you do?
"Shoot!" Aluzira says, closing her eyes tightly as the ashes come at her.

Though the ashes sting your eyes, Aluzira, you manage to keep them open and see your way forward. What do you do?
Also, Tarek?

Ulben yelled what I posted last, and then stands still rubbing at his eyes.
