Rufus looks about at the others and the crevice. He nods at the hole. "We'll also probably need torches for myself and Connar. I'll carry a torch to allow Connar to have both hands free for his bladework. Who's going in first?"
"That'll teach that 'bird' to mess with us!"Thom lets out an immature yell as the party regroups and starts to figure out the best way down the crevice. Tom is impressed with Brocc and Rufus's efficiency as they get a rope anchored. "Thanks lads, let's do it. I'll be the last one down, to cover us at the top."
The companions lowered themselves down into the fissure and discovered a flat area of stone, hidden from outside observers, covered in runic inscriptions.
The inscription seems to be a wordy legal document regarding trespass laws and various statutes of dwarven law. Summarily it seems pressing the middle rune enters one into a legal agreement which relieves the owners of the property of any and all responsibilities regarding the health or welfare of the individual.
Using the inherent ability of his people to see in the darkness Brocc made his way carefully down the stairs, after a short time he comes to their end and finds himself abruptly in a carved tunnel through the earth braced with shaped stone struts, the earthen floor is hard packed from what looks to be hundreds of different bootprints, the tunnel continues left and right.
Rufus and the others are slightly disturbed when Rufus words echo alarmingly through the tunnel.....almost as if the tunnels and struts are designed to channel sound throughout the complex.
There seems to be no discernible difference between the two directions and no signage posted.

"Tie a rope to the tree and lower down?" Brocc asks the group, pulling out a rope.
Rufus looks about at the others and the crevice. He nods at the hole. "We'll also probably need torches for myself and Connar. I'll carry a torch to allow Connar to have both hands free for his bladework. Who's going in first?"
"I will." Brocc says and starts down the rope.

"Shame the wyvern got away, was curious if it tasted like chicken or turkey," Hatch said before climbing down the rope.
The companions lowered themselves down into the fissure and discovered a flat area of stone, hidden from outside observers, covered in runic inscriptions.
( OOC: Anybody speak Dwarven.)
(not this elf)
<OOC: Nope>
(Brocc does speak dwarvish, elvish, and gnomish, plus common.)
(Hatch speaks Draconic and Infernal on top of Common).

The inscription seems to be a wordy legal document regarding trespass laws and various statutes of dwarven law. Summarily it seems pressing the middle rune enters one into a legal agreement which relieves the owners of the property of any and all responsibilities regarding the health or welfare of the individual.
"Seems they want someone to push the rune there." Brocc says after reading the document. "Anyone want to give it a try?"
Hatch pushes the rune Brocc points to.
The rune sinks in a little way and the entire door slides to the side into the rockface with a ratcheting sound.
Well made dusty stone stairs lead down into the darkness....
Connar offers to keep watch here so that nothing can creep up behind the companions from outside.
Brocc takes the lead and starts down.

Hatch lights a torch and looks around hoping to find a clue which way to go.

Investigation 4
Hatch confirms that he is definitely standing in a tunnel.
Relying on the torch Hatch lit, Rufus looks about the tunnel to descern if either the left or right passage looks more travelled.

"Which way you thinking lads? Right is always right, right?"
Rufus and the others are slightly disturbed when Rufus words echo alarmingly through the tunnel.....almost as if the tunnels and struts are designed to channel sound throughout the complex.
