"Agreed. Maybe with the defeat of Zagor the curse was broken and they're no longer undead?"
Banzo takes a position near the front (1st or 2nd in the marching order) as they head off.
(ooc: do the tracks lead back to the mountain we just came from?)

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
The Heroes resolve to continue following the swathe of the dwarven forces eastward, though they all note the tracks beginning to tend northward as they draw nearer to Firetop.
Ennwyn muses to herself as they travel, " I don't know why they are acting so hastily......unless Mirewater moved first and Stonebridge as well in order to stymie them.....they know only that Zagor is dead.....nothing about the dangers that still remain within the mountain....."
Travelling on towards the close of the day the tracks were joined by another somewhat thinner line of passage coming up from the South-East back towards the Moonstone Hills....camp had been struck here......two large separate camps and another smaller one between the two.......food scrap pits and latrines had been dug and a number of foxes, badgers and other animals were scavenging from the pits....
A large pile of gathered stones sat in a cleared area with a square bronze and iron helm sitting upon it.
"Maybe a cairn? Did they lose someone when they camped here?"
Banzo will search around the immediate area for anything out of the ordinary besides the pile of stone with a helm placed atop: (Investigation: 17)

"Undead, do not need such things" Tannin says, wings wrapped around him like a cloak.
Banzo finds a few discarded food scraps and signs that fires were lit and tents were pitched, but nothing significant.
Tzedaka inspects the cairn from a short way off and finds that one of the largest stones has something carved into it in dwarvish runes, Looking over her shoulder Herman reads it out.
"...Fallen to Times Axe... a dwarven saying for succumbing to old age?"
Banzo ponders the situation for a moment.
"Now that they're lost someone along the way, even to old age, the dwarfs will be doubly set on their course of action."

Herman nods to Banzos guess, it is an old fashioned saying among the Dwarves of the foothills where Herman grew up but still in use.
The companions turned northwards as they travelled.
Ennwyn dropped back towards Tzedaka, " If they are going to siege Firetop that won't be much of a siege......there is almost no one left within.....but I fear those unexplored tunnels may harbour something within that the Dwarves are not prepared for......one was, you recall, shadow and darkness......the other.....the warm one......if Ardereinextinctus is now released from Zagors control......"
Banzo continues with the group, heading off on the trail of the dwarves. He will send Zeno, his black and white tuxedo pattern cat familiar, out ahead about 90 or 95 feet to scout and keep in telepathic communication with him.
Zeno's Perception: 23
"If we encounter the cursed undead ones first we're fighting... right?"
Right after asking he looks back over his shoulder at most of the others.
"I just want to make sure we're all on the same page."

"Don't mistake my intentions, I am all for helping the good dwarves. But it was my understanding that two groups of dwarves are racing for the mountain and the other were cursed undead... zombies and skeletons and such... I don't think diplomacy would work so well if that was the case."
Banzo stomps along with his unusual gait, his upper body shifting from side to side with step due to his large, bulky shell... much like a drunken sailor on the deck of a storm-tossed ship.

Zeno ranges ahead the movement of the army is very easy to follow, after a few more hours the companions come across the rather battered remains of a sizeable force of Hill Trolls that seem to have over-estimated their chances.
Moving further northwards the open plains begin to move into scattered patches of scrubby trees which grow larger and greener the nearer they come to the mountain.
The sun is beginning to sink beneath the horizon, as the mountain looms into view.......
........in the distance there is a strange orange glow visible through the dusk about half way up the eastern side of the mountain and a loud trembling subvocalisation that sends slight tremors through the ground beneath your feet. A faint sussuration as if from hundreds of voices very, very far away reaches your ears.........and then a glowing orange crack becomes visible in the side of the mountain momentarily obscured as a long serpentine dark form slides out from it to cling to the mountainside.
A thunderous roar echoes through the skies and even here an hour or mores travel from the mountain you feel it reverberate through your chests.....
Banzo turns a pale shade of green as his tortle blood drains from his face and extremities.
"I strongly advise against a direct confrontation in the open."
"And if we can help it, avoiding a direct confrontation all together."

greed and hatred, not a great postcard. Let's just go and find out before the situation gets out of control
He starts to walk towards the dwarf and invites the others to do likewise
