You wait around just outside the prison cell, and the guards leave you. The sun sinks below the horizon and you hear the - familiar to some of you, but not to others - sound of Hupperdook coming to life at night. You look up to where the upper part of the town must be, and see firework displays beginning. Down next to the prison, the atmosphere is very different.
Wash, a guard greets you and shows to you to where the others are waiting.
(OOC: Feel free to look back through the thread and assume that the rest of the party has told you everything that has happened. As a hint to everyone, please read through the descriptions of the room carefully, as there are specific things in the room that you can inspect to discover clues. You can also get useful information from the injured guards, so it's up to you how you want to approach this.)
Wash takes in what the others tell him and indicates "I definitely want to take a look at the injured guards, but do you mind if I have a look at the cell quickly first? Also, you said Mistress Emberwind pocketed some paper from the chamber pot, did she say what she found?"
Wash searches through the pile of rubble in the cell: Investigation: 20
Wash then rolls up his sleeve and searched the chamber pot as well: Investigation: 3
Finally Wash looks behind and under the charred bed:Investigation: 18
[DM: If you only need one roll, then use the first one; though I was going to spend time checking each one of the above separately, so thought I’d roll for each if needed.]
Wash, in searching the rubble, you're able to determine that the explosion came from inside the room, as there is not all that much rubble and stone inside the room, compared to what is scattered around on the outside beyond the hole.
Sadly, there's nothing in the chamber pot other than what you would expect.
As you look over the bed, you can see that one side, facing directly towards the hole, has been badly burned and marked. With your high roll, you are able to deduce a few things - that the bed was used as protection from the blast, and that this means the occupant of the cell was expecting, and was prepared for, the breakout. In the bed, you find lodged a single jagged fist-sized shard of bronze. It smells strongly of sulfur and burned blasting powder, and doesn’t match any other objects in the cell.
A guard stands at the door, ready to assist as needed.
Wash takes the shard of bronze and examines it briefly before pocketing it.
He looks to any other cells in the vicinity to see if there are other prisoners, whilst asking the guard "Was the Goliath in this cell by herself? Did you have any kobald (?) prisoners in other cells?"
Wash, you don't see anything notable about the shard, other than the smell of blasting powder which is still strong, over an hour after the prison break took place. You can't see the other cells from where you are, but taking a look through the doors of each cell reveals a mix of dwarf, gnome and human prisoners, all sitting or sleeping. None seem particularly interesting or interested in talking to you.
The guard responds: Yes, that's right. No, we don't have kobold prisoners, never have as far as I know.
[If Mistress Emberwind has gone, Wash suggests that they go and speak to the injured guards. If she is still there Wash will approach her and introduce himself.]
The guard on duty nods; he's not very chatty, but he shows you to a small infirmary within the prison. Two guards lie on pallets in the small room, tended by a healer. All are dwarves.
One of the injured guards has what appears to be several knife wounds to the chest, but is conscious and able to speak. The other seems to have similar, but more serious wounds and is unconscious; the healer hovers near the unconscious guard, but looks up as you enter. The guard accompanying you speaks: These are from the Watchmaster. They've got questions. I'll be outside.
Alton follows behind Wash poking head into the room and looking around, "Must have gotten the drop on the guards." An idea come to him as he says that and tries to catch the guard that has been showing them around before he leave, "Hey, I just thought of something. If they blew open that big of a hole to break someone out, then maybe there is a smaller hole somewhere else that brought them inside. Or maybe there are secret ways in and out of this prison."

Alton, Cala and Balassar, I will assume that you have accompanied Wash to the infirmary?
Alton, you approach the guard who has been with you, as he now waits outside the infirmary. He listens to your comments and rubs his chin. Don't know of any secret way into the prison, but then I wouldn't, would I. If we knew about it, we would close it. And there was only one bang, only one explosion. Nah, they got the explosive in somehow, that's what I reckon. If this goliath had accomplices as you say, they were waiting on the exterior for her.
Wash introduces himself to the Healer "Hello, I’m Dr Washburne from the Dawnfather’s Promise, mind if I have a look at your patient?" referring to the unconscious guard.
[If the healer allows Wash to, he will try to bring the guard back to consciousness using a healer's kit and will then speak to him about what happened.]
Wash, the healer is not eager to let you into contact with the unconscious guard. Thank you, that's very kind, but I have already done what can be done. All she needs now is rest. You can speak to Botter if you want.
They indicate the other guard, who is conscious and watching you curiously. Hey doc, come over here. You in the Crownsguard then? Where's your uniform? Her manner is relaxed and friendly.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Confident that Wash has this under control, Alton asks the guard, "Could we check out the prison warden's office, please. Maybe she has a map of the prison we can use to help our investigation." He flashes the crownsguard his most charming smile.
You can... meet the warden, if you wish, the guard says hesitantly. But he is persuaded by Alton's charm, and leads Alton (with Cala or Balassar?) deeper into the prison. Come this way, sir.
Eventually, you reach a door that is somewhat more ornate than the others you have passed by, and the guard knocks politely. Enter, comes a voice, and he opens the door.
Inside is a comfortable, but not luxurious office, with a large desk in the centre. Cabinets full of papers and books line the walls, and at the desk sits a stern-looking dwarf, frowning at you. The investigators, ma'am, the guard begins, but the warden cuts him off. Gulchswattle 's hounds, yes. Mistress Emberwind has been and gone, young man, and I wouldn't waste time if I were you. Why are you bothering me? She says this in a brisk, not hostile manner, conveying that you have her attention, but you won't have it for long.

Wash introduces himself to Botter, flashes his badge and says "We have been tasked with finding the escaped goliath spy and told that we might find some clues here at the prison. Are you able to tell us what you saw?"
Wash also looks over the wounds somewhat subtly, in part to see if the healer has done a good job (and whether he can do better/heal any pain the guard is in), but also takes note of whether the wounds match the guard’s story. Medicine24 If needed.
Alton glances around the office taking a few steps inside, his demeanor changing from that of an excited kid to a more professional one, "This is a very nice office you have ma'am, very organized, and I do thank you for taking some time out of your busy schedule for this unscheduled visit. I'll get right to the point. I was hoping to see if you had a detailed map of the prison we could borrow or possibly visitation records for Sken Zabriss that escaped. Unfortunately, Miss Emberwind was not much help to us keeping whatever information she gained to herself and ran off. Any information you could provide would be helpful."

Wash, the guard shakes her head. Didn't see much, truth to tell. Heard an explosion, and by the time I got to the cell, prisoner was gone. Dammit. She was always a quiet one. From Xhorhas, or so they say. Never had a visitor once the whole time she was here, at least not on my watch. I don't know how it happened. Smelled blasting powder I did, which would explain the explosion, you know. Dammit. She shifts uncomfortably. I... need to rest.
You can see that the healer has done a decent job, given that they don't have access to magical healing; both guards will heal well enough in time. As you are being subtle, you're not really touching or doing anything to aid the prisoner, so no advantage I'm afraid.
The healer approaches. Make it quick, if you please. My patients need to rest. One more question and that's it.
Alton, the warden scowls. No. You may not see a detailed map of the prison. Gulchswattle may find it amusing to hire anyone off the street, but I don't fancy seeing my prison empty because you got drunk one night and told half the town the quickest way in and out. The prisoner, she gestures to the book lying open on her desk in front of you, had no visitors. Any visitor would likely be arrested as a Xhorhassian spy. You are wasting my time, young man.
If I were you, the warden says coolly, I would go to those fools at Firemark's and... oh nevermind. Get out, and don't bother me again. She looks again at her paperwork.
The guard opens the door and gestures for you to leave.
