Alton bows politely, "Thank you again for your time Ma'am." and then follows the guard back to where they left Wash asking along the way, "What is Firemark's?"

Balassar just sighed as he crossed his arms looking around at those injured. He was no stranger to infirmaries, but he also knew that most likely the Doc would get more answers right now then he would.
Wash overhears Alton’s question to the guard and offers, "I know the Firemark’s, I’ve been there more than once after an industrial accident. It is the the blasting powder manufacturer in the South East of town, we should check it out. It’s the only authorised manufacturer, though I’ve seen other patients with scorch marks, which suggests "only authorised" doesn’t mean "only"".
Wash shares what he learned from the injured guard with his three companions (which is not much).
The orange circle marks where you fought the goliath and kobolds, red is the Gearhole Prison where you are now, blue is Firemark's. Alton and Cala would have passed Firemark's on their way into the city, approaching from the south gate.
Alton thinks for a moment, moving his head from one side to the other, "Should we go check out this Firmark's place then? It is the only real lead we have."

Wash offers to lead the way and unless there are objections, walks with his companions along the outer streets on map (bordering the south wall or south cliff on map) until reaching the Firemark's. If Wash recognises anyone working there, he introduces them to Alton, if not he lets Alton do the talking (acknowledging he has the gift of gab).
Together, you walk through the streets of Hupperdook; it's now getting very late, and businesses and workplaces are closing up for the night. You might try to continue your investigation through the night, or find a place to rest.
It doesn't take you long to reach your destination. This brown-and-red brick building is large, its black-iron roof stretching over a massive compound. The scent of sulfur and blasting powder, familiar from the prison cell, is faint on the air here. As you draw near, a gnome guard approaches you with a suspicious look.
Alton fishes in his pocket for the token that the Watchmaster gave them and holds it up, "Um... hired investigators of the Watchmaster. We'd like to ask a few questions about explosive devices if that is alright."

The guard sighs. You with that elf then? She's already in there and...
As the guard is speaking, a door opens and you see the familiar (to some of you) face of Yinra Emberwind emerging. She notices you, winks, and walks past without a word.
You're... not with her? the guard asks hesitantly. She comes in and takes a closer look at Alton's watch symbol. Oh. Oh well, I suppose you'd better come in. She mutters under her breath: The gaffer's not gonna be pleased.
She leads you through the door and into a dark corridor which opens into a large warehouse. You see small barrels stacked against one wall of the scrupulously clean area. The guard motions you through a small door and along another corridor leading into a workshop; the smell of sulphur is much stronger. There are a few dwarves in here, seemingly in the process of finishing up and leaving; magical lights decorate the walls, and you see no open flames. The guard leads you to a desk at one side of the workshop, where a dwarf is reading reports. Gaffer, these folks are from the Watch.
The young dwarf looks up. I thought the elf was from the... though I suppose she never actually said she... why am I being bothered again?
Dunno, sir. But they have official badges, the guard responds.
Very well, very well. Back to your station. The guard nods and leaves, and the dwarf stands and offers his hand. Sleese Firemark. Make it quick, please.
Alton steps forward and shakes Firemark's hand, "Alton Wildcloak, and these are my friends." He points to each member of the group introducing them, "We have been hired by the Watchmaster to help investigate the recent attack, well more jailbreak, to find the person that escaped and how they escaped. Also, we are not with the lady that was in here before, she... how do I say this politely... she thinks very highly of herself. Oh, and I think she works for the prison. Anyway, from what we saw with our fight with the escapees and the crime scene; there were explosives involved and we were told to come here. We were hoping that maybe you could help us out a little." Alton remembers what time of day it is and adds in, "Maybe over a pint or two? If it is not too much trouble, Sir."

Wash seems very happy with the idea of a pint or two, and nods his head "if you are finishing up, we would happily buy you a drink and ask you our questions over libations" and he says "while you are finishing up, are you happy to share what the elf asked and what you told her?"
Well, I will happily tell you what I told her, the dwarf replies somewhat grumpily. It's absurd to suggest that any of our blasting powder has gone missing - it is tracked and stored with the greatest of care and for very obvious reasons. As for a drink...
Alton, make a Persuasion check. With advantage, because Wash is helping.
On the road to Firemark's, Cala makes her apologies and says that she has urgent business that brought her to Hupperdook, and cannot continue with the investigation. She leaves after saying goodbye, headed towards the Upper city.
Balassar looks at the two as they offer to buy the man drinks, his lips curling into a smirk as the idea of finally getting his drink. He just remains quite letting the two work their magic, his hand raising to wave Cala off.
Well, the dwarf says, relenting a little, a drink couldn't hurt. There's a tavern just down the street. So long as you're buying, I don't mind the company.
You walk together to a small tavern near the Firemark's building; the Blasted Wrench. It's clear from the welcome he gets that Sleese is a regular, and you get a clean table in a quiet corner. Someone needs to pay four copper pieces per drink, so that's 16 copper per round for the four of you, and there will be at least three rounds, depending on how hard you go.
So, as I say, Sleese says after the first mug of ale is thoroughly downed, no missing blasting powder. That's what I told the elf, and that's the truth. So what else do you need to know?
Sleese shakes his head. No, not directly. We work with artisans and crafters, if they have a particular design in mind, we can adjust certain aspects of the powder that make it more suited to a certain function. But no, we don't make any devices ourselves. He takes a long swig of ale. This is about the prison break - was something used that you know about?
Wash answers "I’m not sure how much we are supposed to share, so I’m not confirming anything and please keep this discussion between us, but has any artisan or crafter mentioned making a small copper acorn sized device?" Wash describes the devices that the kobalds had on their arms.
Wash also pulls out the bronze shard and sniffs it and asks afterwards "Is there any way to tell by smell if this is the same blasting powder that you manufacture? Has anyone discussed a bomb or device that you think this could be the shell of?"
[Wash buys the second round after the first round is finished. Unlike me personally, Wash is good at pacing himself and subtly does not drink as much as his three friends (taking his not-quite finished mug with him to the bar, spilling part of his drink on the way back from the bar etc.)]

Wash, as a resident of Hupperdook, you would know of Firemark's, the only officially approved manufacturer of blasting powder in Hupperdook.
