Corin turns and heads back to the posting as they walk he says to his friends: "Aye, something strange is going on and I don't like it. I also don't like to be toyed with and after fighting a demon and saving a evidently valued priest I think we are owed some answers."
After that bit of business you all return to your post, more vigilant than ever but the rest of your shift passes without incident. You are relieved from your shift at 3am. Enough time for you all to catch some rest before morning. (If there's anything anyone wants to do overnight let me know. Otherwise I'll move us to morning.)
Roardaar returns to sharpening his axe. If anything, he is less vigilant than before, figuring that if something needs killing he will hear about it quickly enough. He spends much of his shift fantasizing about slaying that belligerent Sarras and bathing in his blood.
Bree and Wellby stand up immediately upon being relieved and they will walk together to their campsite where Bree will spend a few minutes preparing her fishing equipment for the morning on the off chance she and Wellby have a chance to fish. Besides, catching Sarras a nice big cod might improve his mood somewhat, Bree reckons.
Walking silently along with the group, when Perdot gets to his bunk he meticulously checks through his very few belongings. Happy that everything is in it's place, he lays down, and gently sleeps.
You wake in the morning to see Sarras waiting for you. He did let you get a full nights rest though. In his usual gruff manner there is no greeting "We're sending you on a mission. Onaka spoke highly of your valor last night so I'm willing to overlook your lapse in your duty but I warn you to never let your guard down. The servants of the master are numerous and clever. You will need to be more clever. We are sending you into hostile areas and stealth and cunning will more often see you through than brute force." He hands you a very crude map. All it shows are a couple of mountains with a pass through them. On the other side of the pass is a red blotch with the words ""O Gods, guide me to destroy this temple of death..."
"This was delivered to us at great cost. We believe it may be where the Master is located, or at least it's of pivotal importance to his efforts. We don't know what you'll find there but you will have to use your judgment on the best course of action once the place is located. We don't know where the pass is located so the first part of your mission is to reach the Republic main army and learn more from their scouts. The army is somewhere in the desert, chasing the enemy. Scouts have reported a caravan west of the town, beyond the Salt Swamp. You are to join this caravan and travel with it into the Sind Desert. The caravan leaves soon, and to reach it in time, you must take a boat up the river and across the swamp."
"You may speak with Pormas, the river man. It's his boat you'll be taking up the river. You'll be leaving this afternoon"
"A boat ride?" Nolla asks with a smile. "I do enjoy boat trips." She says, glancing to the others. "I can play some traveling music as we get ready..." She offers, pulling out her lyre and starting to play softly.
Bree's eyes widen and brighten as Sarras mentions the boat. "Excuse me, sire, did you say a boat?" She comes up to the officer and practically hugs him. "Do ye know what kind of boat? About how far is it on the river? Will we hafta sail through the night?" The halfling beams at the rest of you. "The lot of ye are in for a treat. Night time boat rides are grand, they are. And the fishing! Biggest fish I ever caught was at night! They're just hungrier, and meaner. Caught a fisher bigger than Wellby here, I did."
Sarras nods "Yes, you will be traveling by night. I would recommend only traveling in the early hours, evening or at night. Especially as you get closer to the desert the heat will be difficult to bear at the height of the day. Bree, boat is perhaps a generous word. It is more of a large raft as the river, and particularly the swamp, are slow and shallow. A raft is best suited for your needs. It is a 3 night journey to the swamp. As long as you cross the swamp in haste you should pick up the caravan trail 3 days after that. You can take whatever provisions you can carry but there are no other supplies to be spared."
"I march today with the rest of the reserves north and there is much I need to organize. Good luck!"
Corin will look at Sarras and say: "Just how in the dark are we being kept? A demon attacking a priest - that we saved mind you and then you show up and reprimand us for leaving our post - and then march him off to the commander's house leaving us with no answers to our questions. The next morning you show up to send us on a mission again with no answers."
"Why did the demon claim the priest was promised to him? What was in the tube the priest dropped?"
"Who is this"Master" you speak of? What does he want?"
Boriglar takes in the information and gives a nod of acceptance. Patting Corrin on the shoulder. “I believe we will find these answers in time. One does not learn with arms crossed and eyes closed.... but with arms open and eye eager to seek the information.”
(we are in an army type thing right? Like grunts that’s don’t get the right to question)
Corin will say to Boriglar: "It matters not if your eyes are open or closed if your left in the dark. You do end up in the same place though....in a hole in the ground..reunited with your dead ancestors."
Sarras smiles in a way that shows no humor "Oh, I'm so sorry, soldier, that you feel you aren't being given all the information. How about this. I'll schedule tea at three for you and the commander to have a brainstorming session? Would that suit his highness?" He shakes his head as he walks away. "You're free to talk to anyone you'd like who isn't busy planning a war!"
(Yes Boriglar. That's the case and the module is very specific about how Sarras acts.)
Bree will elbow Wellby in his shell and points to Corin, saying "Awww... that one's got balls, he does. ." The little halfling laughs heartily, enjoying someone giving it back to Sarras for once .
Through all of this Perdot perks up Corin's questions, but hearing the response simply goes back to packing his things. After getting things ready he says to the group "We should bring some rations from the stores here. I'm sure you're all already tired of Goodberries" with a slight grin. He continues "Though I'm sure we'd all like more information Boriglar is correct, we'll find what we need as we go."
