Jovial Jungle Jaunt (ToA)

"Brute force seems difficult, true," Nenne muses. Something crosses her mind and she cocks her head. "What if we attempted to parlay, instead?"

"They know we are here and they have not attacked yet," she continues, thinking aloud. "The entrance is not trapped as far as I can tell. What harm is there in knocking on the door and asking for a peaceful conference with their leader? He's had us under surveillance and attacked us when we've been perfectly neutral. A parlay would be believable for an unaligned group such as ours, and might be our best guarantee of getting through that door."

A wide passage slopes down to a set of bronze doors. Coiled serpents decorate the metal, with a sliding hatch at head height. Four-inch-wide holes pierce the base of each door.

The gates clatter into the sides of the cavern as Allister, Alynoa, and Lemon near the gate. Four monstrous creatures stand impressively in the passage. They reach a height of six feet, even hunched as they are in the eight foot cave. The two closest on either side of the cavern are pulling chains that open the doors from their side only.

As the doors part, the rear-most two monstrosities lumber forward on elongated limbs. Their necks stretch out away from their bodies and are accented by a forked tongue. Another cobra headed yuan-ti begins casting a spell immediately.

Alynoa rushes forward towards the Yuan-Ti (C8) and whispers words of madness as all over her body, icy armor begins to appear. She then turns towards the snake people and her eyes go dark and she lets the madness take hold. (Armor of Agathys and then Rage). 

Eku fires at the monstrosity in front of her as she closes the gap a bit. The thing compacts itself more than she anticipated and the shot flies over its head hitting nothing.

The cobra headed yuan-ti finishes its spell and says to Allister in common, "Get back and sort tend to your weapons. They need oil!"

In the dim passageway, Boosey begins the incantation for the spell faerie fire, and in a few moments a series of green lights appear behind the Yuan-ti, engulfing the two rearmost monsters and the Yuan-ti with it's flickering lights.  "That should aid our Barbarian friend a little.  Target those monsters at the back, if they keep the light", he shouts.  "Alynoa, keep your wits about you," and he imbues the shout with inspiration.

The snake-like humanoid that Eku shot at easily closes the distance between them and claws out at her twice, she dodges the first one, but gets nabbed by the second. As she is pulled forward, the creature bites down onto her.

One of the creatures pulls two of the three grates off the floor and throws them to the side, revealing pits below.

The remaining two creatures attack Alynoa in tandem. The first creature is absolutely vicious and the woman cannot block any of its attacks. It scores a bite (4 damage) and two claw marks (3 and 3 slashing damage)  on the raging woman. The second creature seems to be testing more than attacking in this moment with its claws. The bite comes in too fast on her forearm (4 damage).

As Nenne watches the fighter withdraw from combat and begin to polish his weapons, her eyes narrow. She claps to get his attention and says, "Not the time, warrior. None of us can afford distraction." Divine power infuses her words as she casts Calm Emotions. Then she adopts a defensive stance and readies her mace and shield.

Lemon roared in glory and happiness. "Taste this ye sorry lil' fiends!" Lemon enchanting his club, gives it a visable green hue to the weapon, then, glancing at the beast and giving him a mad, gleefull smile, swings his club at it. "Do ya enjoy a lil wood darlin'? CAUSE YE SEEM ALL BARK TO ME HAHAHA!"

Attack: 24 Damage: 8

As the creature's hit her, Alynoa's icy armor flashes and their claws come away covered in frost. (Amor of Agathys deals 15 damage each time they hit me, so 45 damage to the first one and 15 to the second.) She turns, her eyes pitch black as the lets the madness take her. She takes two mighty swings of her sword at the Yuan-Ti directly in front of her (Both rolled in the chat). 

Allister's head clears as Nenne's spell washes the urges away. Lemon's club bonk's the creature hard on one of its knees, splitting the skin there. The creatures surrounding Alynoa step back and give alarmed looks to the crazed, greatsword wielding woman.They give just as much of a look to their fallen companion who is riddled with spectral, icy spear shards from simply attacking the human. The yuan-ti in front of Alynoa is afforded two deep gashes from the barbarian's attacks - one across his bicep and a second diagonally over his chest; both are bleeding badly.

Eku drops her bow beside her and pulls her dagger free from its sheath. Like a viper, she lunges forward at the snake creature. The small weapon finds a home right behind the creature's shin. It calls out in pain as the blade sinks halfway to its hilt.

The cobra-headed yuan-ti disengages from battle to retreat further into the cavern. Many yuan-ti forms can be seen in the room he is entering beyond the first.

Furious at himself for being influenced by the yuan-ti Allister jumps to his feet and whips his cutlass from its scabbard. His first attack hits the wounded enemy in the chest, but the second jab with the rapier glances off the scales. The cutlass finds an opening in the scaly hide, scoring a minor hit

Seeing the Yuan-ti disengage and retreat, Boosey moves forward and takes a shot with his crossbow and nods in satisfaction as the bolt finds its mark.  

Lemon, noticing the new 'friends' down the hall, looks and realizes trouble will be starting real soon. Raising his hands in the air, Lemon begins to mutter an incantation. His voice sounds watery, and his bodys seems to become one like waves. Suddenly, a wall of water (Wall of Water), appears in front of the reinforcements (one end starts at B14, ends at  B10). The wall, shaped in a circle, gives two layers of protection instead one layer for a wall.

Lemon looks back to assailant, the one next to him, and using his sheild, shows it to the creatures and changes the face on his shield before his eyes, changing it from the laughing face from before, to a deathly anger now. "This be yer last chance creature. Ye better hope fer the best."

The creature that pulled the grates aside tries to push Alynoa into the revealed pit, but fails to do so. In response to its failure it tries to bite and claw at the woman, but misses both attacks; it settles for an angry hiss. Wanting no more part of what Alynoa's freezing armor does, the creature that survived her magic attacks Allister three times. The warrior cleanly parries any attempt to get behind his defenses.

Eager to finish the job, the creature harrowing Eku lashes out at the guide again. She is bitten a second time and manages to push the creatures left claw to the side. The right clawed hand racks across her forearm as the two disengage.

From the next room a yuan-ti that looks mostly human, save a fair amount of scales taking over his face fires a shortbow at Alynoa. The arrow strikes true (4 damage) and carries the sting of poison (7 damage) with it. He shouts something in draconic to the room behind him before sliding to the side of the room out of sight.

A red skeletal hand shimmers into existence at C9 as the avatar of Kelemvor appears and strikes down at the injured snake monster next to the wall. (Spiritual Weapon: 20 to hit, 4 damage against guy at D8). A moment later, a gout of holy fire emerges from Nenne's mace and streaks toward the creature harrying Eku (Sacred Flame - Dex 14 save or 11 radiant damage).

Several more monstrous snake men rush forward out of the second room with the massive snake statue.

 "I will put up a lil' shield to 'elp stop any more ranged attacks!" Lemon yelled. Throwing his hands in the air and after a quick incantation, a watery wall (Wall of Water) appeared before everyone's eyes (Top of A10 to D10) in front of their attackers. Lemon gave a smirk, and turned his attention to the creature beside them (A6), showing him Lemon's sheild and changing the face from what is was previously, to now a deathly angered face.
