She shakes her head gently. "No, it is vital I say this. Because after all this time, I feel we fundamentally do not understand each other and it causes problems we can't afford."
"I'm sorry for hurting you and making you think I would believe you'd steal from us. In fact, the thought never crossed my mind. Had you lingered, you would have heard me assure the gnome of that in my defense of your character." She is completely earnest and meek, if a little sad. "I've known who you are from the moment we met. If I trust you with their lives," she nods toward the rest of the party, "I certainly trust you with our possessions...I trust you with my life, too, though what happens to it is of less consequence to me."
She realizes she's beginning to ramble and cuts herself off with a chiding, "Arrows, Nenne, not slingshots." A brief struggle to sift through her thoughts and she continues.
"As for my reaction, I was merely upset that your behavior jeopardized our new alliance with Badger. In the hours I sat watching Eku die, my only comfort was knowing he would help us save Lemon. Her rebirth was a reprieve in our constant losses. So when he openly questioned staying with us, I felt that reprieve threatened. I'm just weary of losing people for senseless reasons. That's all."
"I chose Badger because I thought he would understand what I was trying to do. He was in my position when he practiced the trade. I guess you would have reacted differently but I know that you are very perceptive and have a keen eye, I´m gonna have to work harder before I can try picking your pockets."
Glimbul picking up on the conversation. “Allister, i can help you learn the way of stealth, but know that if I ever find my possessions on you I will not be happy. My tools are an extension of myself and highly cherished by myself.”
Nenne smiles, which brightens the new pink tones of her skin. "If I were as perceptive as you say, I would have noticed you practicing with Orvex. Though I suppose I was half dead from lava exposure, at the time." A slightly mischievous twinkle enters her eye. "If you want a true challenge, there's a reliquary hidden in my pack. The chain jangles rather obnoxiously when removed."
Allister walks towards Glimbul. He extends his arms and points at him, holding a mace. "We have a deal, my friend." With wide eyes and fake astonishment he looks at the mace. "Where did that come from? Anybody looking for a mace?" With a wide grin he turns to Nenne, gives her the mace, says "Looks I got better already." and claps her on the shoulder again
The clear sky doesn't last but an hour after the party breaks camp. Clouds gather and a light rain begins to fall, soaking everything again. The party finds their way back through the ruined alleyways and overgrown thickets of the city. The smell of something burning guides the party until finally coming out very near to the amphitheater. The ruined building lies behind a grisly scene in front of the heroes. Yuan-ti bodies lie heaped about, burned and scarred by magic. A couple are torn open with their innards decorating the battlefield. A couple bodies are set aflame.
Two hooded, red wizards stand holding a log on their shoulders near a large boulder to the party's right. Lemon is roped to the log, suspended in the air between the wizards. A skeleton and a third red wizard stand near a second boulder formation while Zagmira sits cross legged atop the stone. She takes note of the party's arrival and jumps to a standing position.
At the sight of the dead littered across the ground, Boosey's face pales a little. He looks to Zagmira, who looks somewhat intimidating atop her stone. He says in a clear voice, "Thank you for finding our Dwarf for us. We'd quite misplaced him and were deeply concerned for his welfare. It is a relief to find him still alive in this city. Might he be returned to us? I'm sure we would all be grateful to you for looking after him for us."
As they near the place of carnage Allister looks at the open place with a mixture of anticipation and disgust. He casually walks over to Badger. "You think you can get behind that big rock and close enough to the wizards that they don´t spot you until it´s too late?"
Zagmira tosses a casual look to the dwarf and calls back across the field, "He's a little tied at the moment, I'm afraid. Finders keepers and all that. I might be convinced to work out a deal for the remaining five cubes though." The mage wears a look of supreme superiority and stands at ease upon her perch.
"What do you suggest then, Zagmira?" Boosey calls back. "It looks like our friend may be between a rock and a hard place. We no longer have any of the cubes, we barely escaped from Ras-nsi with our lives. He has them all now."
While Boosey is talking to Zagmnira Allister casually walks to the left towards the big boulder, trying to get as close to it as possible before the inevitable fight starts
Zagmira shakes her head and finger at Boosey making a tsk, tsk sound. She replies, "What a shame. I had hoped that we could work together, but it looks like I will just have to erase my competition completely. Shall we start with the dwarf? How nice would that be if he never woke up?" As Allister inches towards Lemon, Zagmira turns a hateful finger towards the druid and says to Allister, "Keep that up and I'll start with disentigrate!"
Allister stops dead in his tracks and raises his arms in a defensive gesture. "Would you? Okay, but bear in mind that this way you will lose your only chance to question the people who witnessed the Ring of Winter."
Boosey sighs and lets genuine regret creep into his voice. "What good will that do, killing the dwarf? We will do what we can to ensure his safety, but a pointless fight is, well" he gives a sardonic laugh, "pointless. Ras-nsi has the cubes, you have the dwarf, we have nothing, despite all we have worked towards. The least you could do is allow us to leave the city with our friend intact. Besides, as Allister rightly points out, we have seen the ring, something that you desire for yourself?"
The small fires sputter in the rain and Zagmira's eyes go wide. Her face curls into the most evil of grins and she says, "It has long been one of my greatest joys to question the dead. They never lie." She takes an offensive stance, calling for her comrades to slay each of you. The two mages unceremoniously drop Lemon to the ground, while the other two start casting spells immediately
Both Zagmira and the wizard nearest to her seem to be casting the same spell. Their voices fall into tandem together and their spells conplete. Thin and wispy flames wreathe their bodies, crawling up from their boots all the way to the top of their head. The rain snarls as it comes into contact with the flames, but the wizards look unharmed by the effect. They maintain their ground, winding up new spells.
Now that the fight has started Allister starts running to the boulder on his left, his crossbow aimed at the wizards near Lemon. He realizes that running and aiming is impossible, so he focuses on reaching the boulder and getting cover from the mages.
Boosey sees that Zagmira and her allies are nicely close together by the rock the Thayan is standing on. He focuses on a point directly between them all and starts chanting. Soon clouds gather over the Thayans and he starts a circular gesture with one finger over the palm of his upturned left hand. Once the storm has appeared he lets lightning fly with a flourish of his upturned hand and it strikes between the targets with a crack. call lightning. Keeping a close watch on the storm he retreats behind the large tree close by.
