Halec blinks, jaw hanging loose.  "Fair... fair trade.  Who are you again?  What is happening here?"  He is not an arcanist or a priest himself, and assumes that Anthony is a thief, and not a wizard or cleric.  He looks to the others, therefore, including the man who offered the item up, entirely perplexed at the strange turn of events. "Can anyone tell me what this thing is that we've been given?  Is this some magical item?" 

OOC: Halec lacks the ability to identify a magic item, so he seeks clarification either from the burly man who gave it to them, or from the other PCs who may be trained in Arcana or have spells to identify items.  

Anthony replies quickly, "Unless you can tell me what this does, I don't want it, it serves no purpose for me, You have 1 week with the shortswords. After which time I will require it of you, I have no wish for magic items that I can't use, after all i'm a fighter, not a sorcerer.

OOC: Yes I realize he's a monk, but monks in this game are fighters, just not your typical ones.

"Don't be so hasty, Anthony," Halec quickly says.  "Maybe someone else in our group can make use of it.  Some magic items even a layperson can operate, like magic weapons for example. Can someone please verify the authenticity of this object?" 

"I don't want it! If it could grant me invisibility, then i would want it, but it's a poor reward, Why don't you give him the mule instead! Perhaps you want this item, but I don't!" Turning to the man, Anthony reminds him "One Week."

I wouldn’t discount it until a mage has verified its function. Of course, the burly man could just be a charlatan trading trinkets for good steel. The way today has been going, I don’t know what to think.”

The man's expression goes from calm to enraged in a split second "Ye are a fool, ye will see what one week is!" He --attempts to-- picks up the dwarf with great strength, and starts a mad dash into the forest

Halec’s jaw falls again, and his mustache twitches as his lip quivers. “What... just happened?”

He looks to the others with him, the boy from the monastery, the tiefling of the sea, the taciturn halfling, the yuan-ti in the brown coat, hoping this will make sense to any of them, and unsure whether to intervene in the sudden skirmish between Anthony and the burly barterer, or proceed on to consult the witch. 

“When the Ruby Snowflake shattered, the whole world went mad. That’s the only reasonable explanation. Or maybe I just went mad.  Do we, err, need to do something about this? Or just proceed on to consult with Igna?”

Ophiwalen reaches into his rucksack and takes out a tin foil hat. " Master told me this would stop me from going crazy or being mind controlled. " he runs after the man " He also told me never split the party, and he's a wise man!"

OOC: Did the man think the dwarf was insulting him, calling him “one weak,” and retaliate accordingly?

Drawing My shortswords (i'm  not proficient at dual wielding, but I attempt to use both anyway, I attmept to free myself with 2 quick strikes to my assailant: 10 6

it seems the 1st one is a miss, but what's this guy's armor class, the second one seems to be a hit.

OOC: Without the two weapon fighting style from the Ranger or Fighter classes, bear in mind the second “off hand” attack does not add your statistic modifier to damage. So typically the main hand is Dice+Strength or Dexterity modifier, depending on whether it is a finesse weapon, and the offhand bonus action attack is just Dice without a stat modifier added.

Anyone in 5th edition can dual wield with light weapons, it takes a feat, Dual Wielder, to use two One Handed weapons that aren’t light, like Longswords or Rapiers, and a Ranger or Fighter Fighting style, Two Weapon style, to add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus action offhand attack.

Oh yeah, I actually use my winged boots to hover a bit as I run and try to kick him and knock him prone as I approach.
