Nanoc will tell Okkar that he should stay back out of the fight and then wait until the dwarf takes his crossbow shot before Raging (Bonus Action) and Moving in to join the fight against the weakening creature with a Reckless Attack hoping to take the creature by surprise [OOC: I will assume Sneak Attack applies and hope like crazy for the Critical Hit.]
Nanoc's Attack: 26 ; Normal Damage: 14 ; Normal Sneak Attack Damage: 1 .
[Damn it! The initial damage above is wrong. It should be a d6+4 not a d20 of course. New roll: 8

The creature takes 46 due to its Slashing Vulnerability (which Nanoc’s nature check would have made him aware of). The barbarian slams the scimitar down with all of the force he can summon, refusing to yield to the tough outer layer of flesh, and twists and pushed on, carving entirely through it to finish it off, cleaving entirely through its body.
The party is now free to explore the room. The creature’s body, already cut open by the grievous scimitar wound, glistens with the shine of gold from within, if you wish to examine the cadaver and loot it as well.
The corpse is a tremendous and pale grub like thing, but there are also disturbing indications it may have once also been a dwarf. There are signs of limbs shrunken and merged inward with the body, hints of a sunken in, now eyeless face, but the thing bears far less anthropomorphic shape than the Stone Ghosts did.
(Assuming someone will check) This creatures guys contain 8 nuggets of gold the size of the ones inside the stone ghost cadavers, each valued at 30 GP like the others.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

"Hmm, it looks like it might once have been a dwarf, or perhaps several dwarves merged into one. Perhaps these gorged themselves on food in addition to gold here in the mess hall, and so grew into this repulsive creature. Once we strip out the gold, shall we move to the next door?" suggests Evan, moving up to listen to the next door as well.

Evan will grant Guidance for the search in the room. The next room should be the "Foreman's" room. If his medicine check gave him more information about the strange grub-like creature, he will share his findings with the group.

Taraven will investigate the room (most likely with Galtheon's help)
Investigation 23
OOC: So weird. Its not working.
The investigations the mess finds six knives, several mess kits, and near the stove, a concealed panel that when moved aside contains a ladder that leads down into darkness, evidently an alternate entrance into the mine proper, below. (This is in addition to the discover of the 8 gold nuggets within the slain creature.)
"It seems like there is an alternate entrance down into the mine. Shall we continue to clear each room before heading down?"
“The mine itself is vast, we could spend weeks wandering around down there,” Okkar says, peering down the shaft in the floor. “I see shapes down there, moving. Looks like this grub thing we killed here, smaller, but a lot of them.”
Those with Darkvision, or who aim a lantern down, see the below ground level of the mine is swarming with smaller versions of the creature you battled - Greed Grubs.
While the others investigate, Nanoc is mainly looking for something he can use to wipe the grub's ichor off his blade.
However, once the secret panel is found, he will approach Okkar scratching his head.
"Okkar, can you explain something to me," he begins. "Why would there need to be a secret entrance to the mine in here? And why would it need to be secret? It's not like you could hide the building of it from those who live here."
Then, after a moment's thought, he suggests, "Perhaps this something new. Can you tell?"

Breathing heavily, Nanoc wrenches his sword free and staggers back his Rage dissipating.
"What... What is that thing?" he gasps.

Okkar’s crossbow hangs limply from his hand as we walks over to get a closer look. “Damndest thing. What is this?”

Galtheon nods, eating a mouthful rations and berries.
(loot updated - 48 each)
"Aye, there's still a few doors unopened."
As Galtheon stares down into the pits, he wrinkles his nose and says "A few barrels of oil might do the job."
"We should secure the upper level first. I dislike the prospect of being trapped between stone ghosts and... these things."
While the others investigate, Nanoc is mainly looking for something he can use to wipe the grub's ichor off his blade.
