At the mention of harpies, Nanoc reaches around and grabs his shield. He then turns to look in the direction of the setting sun.
"Too late in the day to do anything more than find suitable shelter now," he says. "And the only sensible thing is to assume that they've seen us."
He is now looking for any nearby caves or suitable overhangs. [Perception check, if warranted: 23 ]
Nanoc spots no caves that look safe - one you can tell is clearly occupied by a dangerous predator already, likely a bear of some sort, that you passed just a few minutes ago - but he does spot an overhang that the group and the horses could cluster beneath, though the horses would have to be tied off and the quarters fairly cramped between you all, a short ways ahead and off to the side of the path you are currently following. It is against the same mountainside that Galtheon identified as the Harpies' likely place of origin, but it would force them to come down and around to assault you and force them to descend to do so, giving them less opportunity to surprise you, and shaping the battlefield to your advantage if they should make the attempt.
Galtheon looks troubled, "Sneaking up on flying creatures...in their nest. There's probably no path to it, anyway.
"If there were a higher vantage point, maybe..."
He looks more closely at the nest location trying to determine how they might attack it. As he is thinking, he also asks Okkar, "How far past their nest is this mine of yours? We may just want to avoid them if its far enough."
[[ Does Galtheon know much of the hunting range of Harpies? ]]
Presuming the predator's cave is not big enough for the horses, Nanoc points to the overhang and says, "We should camp there tonight where we can defend ourselves properly and ride on tomorrow in proper daylight when we will be able to see the harpies coming from a distance."
Then after a moment's thought he adds, "However, that means we risk having to face whatever lives in that cave we passed a few minutes back. It's likely to wake up hungry and smell the horses."

Given that your travel is circuitous, meandering in and among crevasses and the curvature of rock formations to find a trail, and the harpies have no such restrictions, you surmise they could easily travel as far as where you assume the mine to be located, or well in the opposite direction beyond the trading post to the shanty town city nearby. You assume they are likely to not stray far from their nests unless prey becomes scarce, they see an easy target of opportunity, or they have some other agenda.
Galtheon, or anyone else, can roll another Survival check to see if there might be a reasonable approach to the Harpy nest or a vantage point above it.
OOC: I will likely respond to this tomorrow. Feel free to roll/finalize your plans in the interim. Also, it may be or may not come up, but given the strong likelihood, please everyone pre-roll and initiative number and post it.

Nanoc will assist Galtheon with his Survival check to help give him Advantage.
He also brings up the question of them building a fire—if there are the making of such in the nearby area—to try to ward off any visit from the nearby predator. He will argue that he and Evan won't be much use without some sort of light source; even if there is a moon tonight, the narrow valleys will prevent it being much help unless it is directly overhead.
Finally, Nanoc's Initiative Roll: 14.

Galtheon looks pensive, but agrees it's best to plan a camp. He suggests that he and the lad might scout quickly and quietly ahead -- not far -- for any better campsite, but that getting a good nights rest will be important. "I think Harpies are day-hunters, though. Keeping the bear at bay may be more important."

Working together, before retiring the the safety of the overhang and starting a fire, your group does a bit of ranging, and finds a path that looks like it does indeed lead up the side of the mountain towards where you identified the Harpy nest. You note that it would require climbing at a few points, and thus the horses could not come along on such a trek. It would also have to be safely climbed by day most likely, as the search for handholds or even proper places to hammer in pitons would be far too dangerous by night.
OOC: Characters without Darkvision, ie, even characters with Low Light vision using light sources, would be climbing with Disadvantage by night. Using proper climbing gear might grant advantage, but this would cancel out to a standard roll. By day, using proper gear, the check could be rolled with Advantage. The base DC also differs - by day, with proper equipment, it would be a DC 10, with advantage. By night, it would be a DC 15, either with disadvantage or a neutral roll, for characters without Darkvision.

They grant you one month's feed with the purchased horse.
As the sun sets and darkness falls your group returns from the brief scouting foray where the path leading to the harpy nest was discovered, and shelters beneath the overhang Nanoc identified. The cave you had passed is about 100 ft "the way you came from," to the east, your group has been traveling west, into the Iron Mountain range itself. The Harpy nest is to your north, and it is against the north cliff wall your group huddles, beneath the overhang. Due to the nearly unnatural shapes of the jutting iron mountains, and possibly ancient events and forces that has warped these jagged paths and crevices into the mountain range, Medium sized characters can move as far as 30 feet back into this overhang, and 20 feet across (6 squares by 4), and within the 7 of you and your 7 horses have all crowded closely around a blazing fire. Small sized creatures (none in the party) can comfortably move up to 40 feet back (8 squares by 4), where medium creatures would need to go prone and crawl to go that far back against the mountain side.
Those of you with passive perception of 13 or higher hear the movement of winged creatures and distant calls after your party has set up camp and fire, but before sleeping. You do not have a view of their movements from the overhang. A single form does descend with within your field of vision, flying low and at an angle to land 200 feet east, past the predator cave you had all passed previously.
OOC: Note the overhang provides very cramped quarters from a combat perspective, where people occupy 5 foot areas, but for rest and interaction obviously more than one creature can "squeeze" into a square.
