As the group had indicated a large fire for warding off creatures and attacks, I will say 30 ft of Bright Light, 60 ft of Shadowy Light. Creatures with Low Light Vision can see twice as far.
OOC: Given this scenario there may be no valid actions the party can take, or choose to take, prior to the Harpy's action, based on limited range and vision. Unless someone with a higher initiative than the Harpy has a specific action they wish to perform (a Ready Action, a ranged attack, a buff spell, etc.) I may skip to the Harpy's turn.
Can I walk a few feet west and try to hide where the fire does not shed light before the harpy arrives at the overhang? so that I might be able to get a surprise round

OOC: On your initiative you could do so - the “encounter” began once the harpy scout was sighted flying within field of vision.
Ilcerys, Taraven, Ethan and Nanoc have an opportunity to act, or ready actions, before the harpy scout’s action.
Also, regardless of initiative, anyone in the party can roll their preference of Insight or Nature (not both) to get a read on the Harpy scout’s actions here, and can give advice out of initiative order if they wish through dialogue.
Evan moves towards the front, trying to protect the horses and establish the first line of defense. He casts Bless, including three of the warriors and archers as he sees them: Galtheon, ilicerys, and Nanoc.
He says quietly, “Prepare yourselves; they are coming.”

Okay. How would this combat work since we seem to be the only ones online? do we just wait?
OOC: We May have to wait. I could have selected based on time zone and posting availability but instead I picked a mix based on role play and party composition and other factors, I did not request time zone/availability info. First time PBP DM, learning experience all around. But if we have to wait, we wait, yes. So goes it with PBP.
I may consider going party initiative in the future, and monster group initiative. I don’t care for it, but for this format it offers advantages.
OOC: I have seen “block” initiative work well. Everyone rolls initiative, but PC’s can post in any order if they are in the “block” of initiatives between the monster’s actions. If there is just one block of monsters, it comes to a party initiative after one round, but still allows people with high initiatives to have the advantage of going first.

Ilecerys readies an attack if any enemy comes into melee range and tries to discern the scout's actions.
Insight: 4
Ilecerys has not personally faced Harpies before and is having a hard time gauging this scouts intentions, but the half elf prepares to attack should any threats approach.
OOC: Everyone else can post their Insight or Nature at any time.

I am good with that - anyone acting before the Harpy can simply note their actions now, as you all are doing.
I appreciate the suggestions as I am new to this format.
With a 10 it strikes Kerina as odd that a lone scout would descend, as based on what you know and were told, Harpies have no more darkvision than a human, and a lone harpy would not genuinely want to engage a large force such as yours under such conditions. It might have some other plan in mind.
