ooc: Only some of us went back. Bones and I (I think anyway) stayed in the room where we found the books.
Is that all we find? 4 books and not even his actual spell book? No research equipment, no wizardly paraphernalia? Nothing like that? A secret room, door, or chest, trap door, secret drawers in this desk, crawl space above or below. Talinian would have been looking everywhere, in every corner, under and over every piece of furniture.
I was under the complete impression that all of you went to the office.
As for the books correct, his spell book is not there. Research equipment there are a few beakers and a burner, a mortar and pestle, basic components for casting spells, but nothing that screams grand wizard or that he is “good” at what he is doing.

ooc: We all did go to the office and then Merric asked some of the others to go back and search the Mayor's body and whatever else seemed applicable.
Bones looks over the various implements and apparatus that they find around the recently deceased mayor's room. Satisfied with his search, Bones nods "I'll go have a look in the rooms down the other hall if you wish? I don't see anything more of value here, unless your keen eye has picked up something, Talinian?" As he goes to leave the room, he pauses a moment and says to the others, "I should be fine on my own if you all wish to continue investigating here. I will call out if anything untoward or of import arises." He smiles and nods to Thorin and Mia as he passes them, and moves down the hall to the rooms left of the main hall.
Before I push on I would like to make sure that I have the time line correct.
Battle in the main hall, conversation, everyone leaves for Raymond's quarters, Crush leaves all together to prep for the night. Raymond's quarters are three rooms, a general living room(including a bathroom), a bedroom, and a third room that most likely was originally meant as a children's room but being used as a lab/office. You searched it, then sent someone back to search Raymond's body.
So Fuime has gone silent so we can say that he goes back to search the body, as he does that Bones you said you wish to search the other three rooms. These rooms are in the direction the other guy went walking when Talinian first came in. The guards inform you that these rooms are used as guest quarters for officials, such as the Tax Collector. Which of the three rooms would Bones like to search first?
ooc: Talinian will assist him so can we have Talinian do the investigation with advantage? Let's start with the children's room, then the bedroom, and then the bathroom.
"No, nothing, my friend. I'll go with you. Two pairs of eyes will be keener than one,"the tiefling wizard replies. Turning to the guard, he says, "We'd like to search those other rooms as well, the ones used by 'visiting officials' when we are done with these rooms."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
A) I thought that Bones was going to look down the other hall way, we can tackle that next.
B) The children room was searched, it is where you found the books, I'll use that role for the living room. You find normal things clothing, nicknacks, you find 4 gold worth of women's jewelry. Nothing of interest.
The three rooms are all set up the same, a small chamber pot room, in the corner, with a bed, and a dresser standing opposite of one another. The first and third room you find nothing at all, the second room when you walk in the bed is unmade, the drawers of the dresser are opened, as is the window. There is two different trails that lead to a set of wagon wheel's trail. The one set of footprints are masked by the dragging of a box of some kind, from the window to the where a cart once was at, the second set are a set of footprints walking backwards dragging another set of feet behind it, they are from a window in the main hall to where the wagon was at. The two sets of prints are rather different, but have some overlapping parts, which might show that the two were made at separate times, but probably very shortly after one another.
Fuime pokes his head out the open window and yells out “Mayor is gone.”
Bones nods and in the commotion, still having the spell book in his hand, pockets the mayor's book to study and copy spells from later. He then dashes to get to the cart and get it moving in order to follow the trail.
The tracks are some what easy to follow at first, they lead to the main road in and out of town. There becomes two problems while following the wheels, 1 you are starting to fight with the people coming into town for the tea and teapot convention, second is where you are not fighting the trafic the tracks are mixed together, and you get to a fork in the road about an hour into travel. (its about 3:00) you can keep heading west or you can head south, there is also the choice of turning around and heading back to town.
Talinian considered the problem carefully. If the mayor had gone to ground in the town that would most likely come to light quickly so that option could be discounted. But which path to follow? Well, there was one easy solution, with two steps.
"Fiume, Bones, if I am not mistaken you two are our best trackers. Please see if can determine which road we should be following." Turning to the others, "Mia, Thodin, do you have any suggestions?"
ooc: I'm thinking a Survival check by Fiume with advantage from Bones' assistance.
Mialee would cross her arms as she’d pat her foot on the ground in thought when Talinian would address her. Fool me once, shame on him... A soft grumble would leave her before she’d speak. “Crush and Lord Bal... Was it all a ruse?” She’d finally ask out loud. Did they pretend to cooperate? The blonde had an idea of where Crush said he would be, but she questioned whether he went to the doctor for mending after she healed him. It would seem counterproductive.

(OOC - that seems correct to me, though I'm not sure who went back to look over Raymond's body.)

Bones investigates each of the rooms down the left hall, one at a time, with Talinian's help.

Talinian curses in every language he knows, then summons Baltor. Follow the trail, my friend. We will follow after.
Turning to Bones and Mia he tells them about Baltor. "Let us get the horses and follow with all speed. I fear the worst is yet to come."
As they move back through the rooms, Talinian gathers up the remaining books and other items Bones did not take.

"Son of a-" Mia would grumble. She'd nod. Ready to make haste.
