They turned south, the trail heading south has a thick top layer over it, and the path is narrow, if Baltor flyes over head he will lose them, if he come into the path he will have a chance to give away that he is following. Does Baltor follow down the path? Do you follow the south path?
Talinian points down the south path. "Baltor is that way. We will follow but be ready for anything."
Baltor alights on a branch and peers at the group he is following. Flying through trees and remaining unseen is what owls do so he follows being his usually stealthy owl self.
ooc: This assumes he is flying through trees. If not, please let me know.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
It is a very thick wooded area, he would have to fly into the canapy and lost sight of them, some times he would even have to fly under the canapy because of it getting too thick. he comes to an intersection. One path heads west, one south west, and the last one south east. 14
You know what I missed that he has advantage, so I will take your 20, he only gets a +3 not 4. Yeah he hears down the south east path, a long way off still a cart traveling farther away. Do you all follow? Does he follow?
The way that I have been seeing this going is that Baltor follows, when they get to an intersection he waits for you all to get with in 100 feet telling you whats up, then headingg off again haveing to catch back up. Seeing as they are about 20 minutes ahead of you. So you get with-in 100 feet, and he takes back off, so this is what happens.
It is 4:00PM when you get to the intercetion. The path that Baltor took is the smallest of the paths, a wagon fits, but not by much. The path has more growth on it than most paths you have been on, but it is still defined. You continue to travel down the path its been a little more than 3 hours, and you get to a point that you know to be with in 100 feet of Baltor again, the sun has gone down and he comunicates with you Talinian that he saw the following.
As the sun was going down the wagon came to a stop, the driver of the cart a young man with a large build entered the back of the wagon opened a casket up, the man that Talinian had seen leave the Main Hall sat up from inside.
"Delton where are we?" the man asked
"Master, Mayor Raymond is dead." Delton answered bowing his head. "His body is also in the cart. I figured you would want me to bring him."
"Yes Delton, I would." and the man picks up Raymond's body. "I will take him the rest of the way, you rest, I will see you tomorrow night." And at that the man pulls a scroll out from his coat, opens it and reads it, afterwards he lifts into the air carring Raymond with him and starts to fly continuing down the path. Do you want Baltor to follow down the path at this point or continue to wait for you? Do you all continue to Delton?
(OOG sorry about the delay, yesterday was a $#!+ show of a day for me, I need a nap already.)
OOC: I wish I’d known you thought this was how it was going, Coach. Talinian needs to be within 100’ to speak with Balfour but I don’t think he needs to be that close to know where he is, at least a direction.
Talinian passes along the latest information and then sends Baylor after the leader. “I think we should follow but try to get our hands on this Delton individual. What are your thoughts?”
Bones nods, "Agreed. Whoever his master is, we will need to find him. Perhaps he has been behind Raymond's sudden interest in necromancy. It's obvious Raymond was rudimentary in his studies, but someone had to give him his first nudge in that direction."
(OOG so I have reread the rules and I see nothing that would lead me to believe that you "know where he is, at least a direction." Either way it would not matter, If you have that ability you told him to follow and got the feelings of which way to go, all that means is that he would have caught up with them just before getting to the 4 way intersection, the last one before the long treck and the cart stopped. And then he would have convayed what happened once within 100 feet.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Signalling to his companions to be ready to attack or chase the man, and whispering to Bones to ready his web spell, Talinian approaches and says, "Greetings, Delton. Do not run or you will chased and bound," To punctuate this, he casts and Acid Splash on the cart. "I am Talinian the Blue and we have questions for you about the mayor's body and the person who took it. Answer and you be unharmed."

ooc: Find Familiar doesn't say one way or the other. The 100' limit specifically relates to communication, casting touch spells and using the familiar's senses. It always seemed to me knowing the direction of one's familiar was inherent in the nature of the connection. That said, you're the DM and however you rule is fine with me :)
(OOG I will go with you on it, your points are well made, and as I pointed out earlier their is nothing that really changes in terms of the narrative of the story.)
Delton draws a long sword and holds it in two hands, after you have hit the cart with acid he lowers it slightly.
"I can answer your questions or I can take you to Victor, my master, and his masters, whom I am sure would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have. But..." and a short pause after trailing off a little. "But, may I ask as to what you think you know and what you wish to... ummmm accomplish?"
(I’m still here with Mia. The last couple weeks have been a bit of a ride. My 22yr old cousin died unexpectedly in a vehicle accident two weeks ago, so I’ve been spuratic between work and visits. I guess I also got a little lost and confused. I stepped back to allow Talinian and Bones to do their thing/figure it out. Mia’s a quiet warrior and would have followed along if there was nothing suspecting Crush or Lord Bal playing double agents/helping the mayor )

So did Baltor wait for you and then go down the south path or did he go when he got there?

He sees nothing that would give him any clue as to which way they went.
What do you all do?

If Talinian let's us know, Bones would direct the cart in that direction.
Talinian says, "Baltor is this way. Let us follow." He leads the group down path and under the trees.
Meanwhile, Baltor follows the sounds of the mayor...or whoever or whatever it is.
ooc: I'm guessing we are not within 100' of the owl, yet, right?
