ooc: So the plan will be to leave the ladies when we come in sight of the town. We will all have prepared the spells most likely to assist in a confrontation with Xamyra. Mia and Bones will be ready to flee and Talinian will be ready to teleport with the box then flee. Bones will have given her the book the night before...Talinian hopes :). That morning, he will have sent Baltor on ahead to watch the road into the town to make sure there are no surprises waiting for them.
As the group crests the final slopping hill and sees the town in the distance, Talinian turns to Xamyra. "It has a been a pleasure, Xamyra, working with you. Give my best to Magus Celenwe. However, as this mission has already run long for us, and veered far from it's original purpose, and since none of the items we've recovered, save the book, belong to the school or are necromantic in nature, we can save valuable hours leaving you here. The town is there and you should have no trouble getting Falami back to the campus. Be well and may you prosper."
With a nod and a smile, he backs his horse away and prepares to turn.
"WAIT! Per Magus Celenwe I was to bring you back so that he could insure that there was nothing necromantic. There is also the matter of THAT BOX! You know nothing about it, and nore do I, except that it is sealed and not meant to be opened, why should we allow you to take it away from the school, where it can be studdied, and kept safe. Of course there is the idea that I could make sure that you are part of that team who studies it. But I think that it should be returned to the school."
Baltor does not see anything that would worry you.
Bones reaches into his bag and grabs the book, but does not bring it out for a moment. It was an impressive read, though he's not sure if he'd get much more out of it. He then looks to Mia and gives a slight but knowing nod before letting out a sigh as he brings out the book and four of the scrolls of Undead Army and handing them to Xamyra, "I'm sure you'll have your hands full with this." He fumbles, dropping the items to the ground in front of Xamyra.
(OOC - I'd found six scrolls in total, but Xamyra was likely to have only seen the first four found on the captive mage.)
Mending(Cantrip), Minor Illusion(Cantrip), Ray of Frost(Cantrip), Toll the Dead(Cantrip), Cause Fear(1st), Comprehend Languages(1st), Detect Magic(1st), Disguise Self(1st), Ice Knife(1st), Magic Missile(1st), Ray of Sickness(1st), Shield(1st), Ray of Enfeeblement(2nd), See Invisibility(2nd), Suggestion(2nd)
"Well, the only other thing we found was the sword and you know there's nothing necromantic about that. As for the box, it's clearly not necromantic, whatever may or may not be inside, so we will be taking it as per my agreement with the Magus. But I promise this. If we find anything necromantic inside, we will bring that to the Magus, as per the agreement. Have a good day, Xamyra. My respects to the Magus."
With that, Talinian nods to the others and departs, having Baltor keeping an eye on Xamyra.
"There is only one thing clear about that box, it is powerful, and what ever is inside is powerful. So it needs to be studied by the highest of minds. Now if you wish to continue off, I would be happy to take it for you, but leaving does not seem to be an option I can allow." Xamyra sits up on her horse, puffing herself to look bigger, and you can see her age go away a little, almost as if she was 10 to 20 years younger. She grips her staff tight and the top starts to glow red.
Talinian stares at the old wizard. "You're going to attack us? Over a contract disagreement? A contract you're not even party to? This is not the school I remember." He sighs very sadly, "Very well...if you feel that strongly about it, I have no wish to fight you. Let us proceed." He turns his horse back towards the town and signals the others with the hand Xamyra cannot see to be ready.
As soon as she relaxes even a little, glances away, anything like that, he casts Misty Step, moving 30' back up the road as a bonus action and then dashes 60' further on. If Misty Step will take his horse, he dashes with his horse 120' instead.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ill allow misty step to take the horse with with (As the DM I have no problem with what your doing, Xamyra on the other hand does not.)
"You are not the puple that I remember our school turning out, this conversation might need to be continued once we get back." She lowers her staff, it stops glowing and she turns to continue.
And then you cast Misty Step, movement and dash action you are 150 feet away. I will give Mia a little time to say exactly what she does.
Xamyra starts to ride to chase you but after about 40 feet of chasing she sees that she still has a prisoner who might get away, and that they pray would be better to catch, and she yells "I'd hate to do this but the Hutners of Mardale will be after you Talinian The Blue!" and she rides off, leaving you alone.
What do you do at the edge of town to send the ladies off?
