"Orros, do you have any information or do you know of any person or facility, perhaps a library, where we might research how best to kill such things?"
Bones perks up, "I might like...? The mayor? Or the oozes? The oozes do sound interesting, though it seems we'll have to keep our wits about us. So we go to see this Mayor Ron something-or-other with regards to more details on our rogue bard and his band of oozing friends?"
To Talinian "I mean all the more stabbing and magic throwing normally kills most things, just be careful with your weapons, and armor that doesn't do the magic stuff. They seam to be immune to a lot of stuff." With your check feel free too look up grey ooze, and ochre jelly for any information you want to have)
To Bones "Yeah, the Mayor Rodger Likestofart, or something like that, he is into the darker arts, like you."
Thodin shifts uncomfortably in his armor, not liking the sound of this "ooze" stuff. His weapons and armor weren't really magical, at least he didn't think they were.
As Orros continues speaking to Bones, the mention of darker arts registers on the peripheral of the Dwarf's mind. "Darker arts, eh...?" his gaze turns towards Bones with a raised eyebrow.
Bones shifts uncomfortably at Orros making mention of his studies, he turns to Thodin. "By that he refers to my work with clerics and burial of the dead. These are dark times and sometimes certain rituals are required to ensure the dead stay dead. And those that don't also require investigation."
A subtly noticed wave of understanding flows over Thodin's brow, as his thick-set and bushy eyebrows return to his default "grumpy" level. "Ah, I think I understand, Master Bones... I've come across those that take another sort of perspective, if you will" the Dwarf says sternly, but with a hint of calm friendliness.
Turning the to Tiefling, Thodin runs a gnarly-knuckled hand over his grey beard, thinking for a moment before speaking "Sounds like you might have the right of it, though; us having a look into these ooze things a bit more... Don't like all this talk about knights losing weapons and armor and such", at this the Dwarf absentmindedly taps the plate armor he's wearing while looking over his shoulder to where his shield and warhammer sit, back at this table. "... would rather not lose all me stuff...".
Finally, snapping his drifting mind out of things, Thodin looks to Orros. "Well... where can we find this Major then, Orros?"
After pondering for a moment, Talinian says, "If the creatures are gray ooze they are particularly hard to kill with acid, cold and fire. Additionally, weapons and armor will be badly affected by the ooze. We should plan for ranged attacks and, magically speaking, force or lightning based attacks. If it is ochre jelly, those creatures are immune to lightning and slashing type attacks and hard to damage with acid. Fire should work well as should piercing and bludgeoning attacks. I suggest we bring two or three flasks of oil each, but thankfully ochre jelly is not corrosive."
Bones puts up a hand to calm Orros, "Don't fret. I'm sure we'll work it out. We'll handle it," then turning to the group, "Do you have all you need? Talinian has some good advice on the oozes. Perhaps make haste to gather your required items and we can head off to Presdine relatively soon."
Anger begins to boil inside Thodin as he takes a step towards Orros. At the last moment he catches a glimpse of both Talinian and Bones, so thinks better of it, turning sharply around and heading towards his table. Rustling through his pack to do a quick check, and slinging it and his shield over his should, Thodin grabs his warhammer and turns back to the others. "This talk of badly affecting weapons and armor isn't ideal, but when is Guild work ever different!?" he taps the shield on his back and continues "Can I assume that blocking with me shield won't be ideal, either, Master Tiefling?" he says with a hint of sadness.
"I don't rightly know any of that magic stuff either, but by the sounds and looks of ya both have that covered!" Thodin lets out a throaty chuckle, his anger from a moment ago completely subsided now. Shifting uncomfortably, fingering his light coin purse, Thodin ponders for a moment regarding his lack of ranged weaponry and his low amount of coin. "I have a spare chain mail in me pack; if you think ranged attacks would serve us best, it might be an idea for me to go and barter with it before we leave..." he trails off, before looking back to the others with a wide toothy grin only half-hidden behind his massive white beard "... unless one of ya has a better way with words and shopkeepers!"
(ooc: only has the starting gold, so like 10gp, but that's fine and fits RP-wise of him sending any last Guild monies "home", so to speak. He has the chainmail from his starting equipment too, after taking armor as a gift. For reference, he has two handaxes on his belt behind his back, hence no crossbow or anything "proper" ranged :P)

"I am afraid so, Thodin. Though it would perhaps be better to lose the shield than your armor. You would know best. I do suggest we pick you up a bow or crossbow, or even a sling, whichever you prefer. If needed, I am happy to loan you the funds for the weapon and the flasks of oil. You can repay me from the fee we collect." Looking at the others, he continues, "If there is nothing further?"
OOC: I'm going to write the next part for when we get to the store, but please do not think I'm pushing anything along. I have to get to work and may not be able to post again for a while so I want to cover my bases.
When the group is finished at the guild hall, Talinian leads them to a nearby merchant who sells both weapons and gear. Once there, he suggests Mia barters for 15 flasks of oil and a ranged weapon for Thodin and Fiume, if the genansi wants one. The powerful charisma of a paladin should make the bartering go easier.
"Bones," he whispers to the gnome, "it may be beneficial to provide her with some divine guidance for her bartering?"
Before leaving the Guildhall, Thodin nods in agreement with Talinian "Aye, that arrangement suits me, you have my thanks. A good dwarven crossbow would do the trick, I think! And thinking upon it, perhaps a spare set of armor may well come in handy!" he chuckles as the party leaves.
Once at the shop, Thodin begins to look around the available stock, as the others sort out the bartering.
(ooc: this can obviously happen as they leave and are in the shop, not stopping anyone else RP'ing at the Guildhall, as Lorrd mentioned)
“I would buy some gear but I was robbed on the way here by some thug, but if you guys buys some ball bearings and a barrel and some alchemist fire, we could make an artificial fireball.... eh, that’s actually a bad idea never mind”
Bones, at Talinian's encouragement, casts guidance on Mia for her bartering. He turns to Flume after her suggestion of an artificial fireball, "While I appreciate the ingenuity of such a design, but perhaps something a little smaller and... more controlled might be necessary with many others around. Besides, a barrel is large and cumbersome, perhaps a glass bottle or flask version would suffice?"
"Alchemist's fire usually comes in vials, and I would assume you would carry it in your backpack in any case. We can look at acquiring a vial, maybe two, however I've been led to believe that it is quite a volatile concoction. Besides, we are not certain of what oozes this off-kilter bard has with him and fire is not entirely useful for all by Talinian's explanation. Perhaps we wait before spending much gold for so little, especially if it won't help." Bones pulls his spell book out from his beard and flicks through it, going over what Talinian had said earlier and checking his spells for usefulness.
Talinian considers what he knows of oozes.
