(OOC - when seeing through his familiar, Bones will be blind and deaf, so he won't hear you ask for updates, but he will occasionally whisper what is happening.)
"Talinian has just confronted the mayor regarding the undead guards," Bones whispers to the others, "Be prepared."
Raymond shifts uncomfortably. “Yes to be frank, I have been doing much research on bringing the dead back to life, and have managed to bring these two back. Yes I hide it from my people, you know, as well as I do, that not all manner of people take kindly to the undead. But my goal is to bring my wife back, we were robbed of our love. Are you going to be reporting me to your school?”
And just that quickly the nexus of conflict has come, Talinian thought. He considers his reply carefully.
"The school has an interest in all practitioners of magic, Lord Mayor, and I see no reason not to inform them of your activity. However, your characterization of that as a 'report' implies you feel you are violating some law or rule. Do you think you are doing so?"
Talinian remained ready to move but refrained from tensing up, though he did review the procedures for Misty Step.
“As far as I know there are no LAWs, if you would, that I have broken. But I know that if Golin and Oriteath was to find out about my… activities they would surely send someone out to make my life more difficult. And again while as far as I know I have not stepped outside of the law, most people do not see necromancy as an evil thing, there have been a fair share of people who have tried outlawing it all together. I did travel to the campus in Fervoy, and inquire about if anyone had any necromancy skills, the Campus Magus nearly attacked me when I started asking for any information on necromancy.”
Bones whispers, "Do we know where Raymond lives? He's been at this for a while it seems. Trying to bring back his wife. His belongings may hold some interesting information, such as notes or research."
(DM Question - do we know where he lives? Does he reside here at the hall or elsewhere in town?)
Talinian nods. "You may well be correct, Lord Mayor. But if Golin and Oriteath choose to send an observer or two to your town, that decision would be theirs and not mine." Time to ratchet up the pressure.
Standing, he turned and gestured at the two undead guards, surreptitiously positioning himself in such a way to keep the guards and the mayor both in sight. "These bodies which you have animated, did you receive permission from their families? I must admit to a scholar's curiosity on such things. What is the etiquette of such a situation?"
As he spoke he ordered the Unseen Servant to a nearby bookshelf.
"To say I had permision would be more than a stretch. About a day or so walk from here is a graveyard that was made from a battle that took place between two waring gangs, about 10 or so years back. I went and dug up these two bodies, I can assume you can guess the remaining facts. During your time at school would you say that the rules they set down didn't limit you and what you could do, what you could become? I have meet some who do believe this to be true."
Talinian shook his head. "That would be an exaggeration, a fairly large one, actually. The school have chosen to police magic as a collective body. An individual may choose to go...bad...is probably the best word but groups are much harder to turn in that fashion, especially if the leaders of the group are all strong-willed. Few wizards are weak-willed. You can be certain that once I inform them of your activities they will send people to keep an eye on things, at least for a time."
"Well I guess that is that, and there is nothing I can do to change your mind. Now do you wish to wait for the rest of your party to talk about Davey? Crush and Lord Bal should be in their offices, I can send my doormen to fetch them." Rayman stretches his neck in a way that conveys annoyance.
Talinian considers for a moment. You seem annoyed, Lord Mayor. May I ask why? Also, I am not certain I understand the position of Crush and Lord Bal. The decision regarding Davey would seem to be a town matter. As mayor, it would further seem to fall directly to you."
"I seem annoyed!'' Raymond raises his voice and stands. "I am merely asking for aid in bringing my wife back to me and you are not just denying me, you are going to make it harder on me!” Raymond sits back down tears in his eyes. “I am sorry for losing my composure. I just miss her so much.” he shakes his head whipping his brow. “As for Crush and Lord Bal they serve as my elected advisors. My position is family driven, so I represent the crown, they are elected, so they represent the people. And yes I believe that the fate of Davey is a town matter. But you and your friends made it seem as if you were not wanting to leave him here. So should you convince me to leave him in your charge I can, otherwise he will have a public trial, and most likely be sentenced to death. But as I said earlier, should you have good reason to keep him in your custody we will explain things to the people.”
While the mayor is distracted by his tears, Talinian whispers to Cinder, "Bones, bring everyone in. This may be coming to a head."
After the mayor's tirade subsides Talinian continues, "Many people have been hurt by those merely sought one thing or another, Lord Mayor. If my doing my duty makes things harder for you, I cannot honestly say I am sorry. You have been forthright with me and deserve the same in return." He pauses, then. "My companions are on their way." And let the man wonder how that was arranged.
Bones sits up and looks to the others, "Let's go, be ready just in case we need to protect ourselves. At this point combat is not on the table, but it may be close." He jumps up and moves quickly towards the mayor's building entrance. "Watch out for his undead guards too."
Mialee would follow suite. Though, she'd allow Bones (and Thodin?) to rush ahead. She'd fall back a little to watch their 6 as well as to keep an eye out for Crush and Lord Bal.
The remaining of the party comes into the Town Hall, just after Crush and Lord Bal enter.
Raymond looks to his two advisors and say "Crush, Lord Bal, the members of The Wealthy and Righus Swords have somewhat asked for permission to take Davey with them rather than leaving him in our custidy." With out pause Raymond turns his attention to you all "If you leave Davey with us, what will happen is he will be tried. I have thought about this, and you seemed to be worried about how harsh I might be about this, so I as Mayor will call for this to be a Special Trial, in accordance with our town laws. I will be judge and one of the jurors. As well as Crush and Lord Bal, one the remaining 4 seats will be filled by a randomly chosin town citizen. Davey will be allowed to pick the last three jurors, however jurors are not allowed to be witnesses. In order for us to exicute him we must reach a 6-1 vote. Due to the Tea and Teapot convention we will not be able to start the trial until Monday. Does this seem fair to you all?"
Talinian looks at his companions, perplexed. "We did not request permission to take Davey with us. We simply indicated our contract was not to capture him for you but to stop him, and that it was not automatic that we would surrender him to you," he responds after a moment. "However, I think if you want to try him here, we have no objection, I think. Are we in agreement?" He asks his fellow guild members.
Talinian pauses, then, "After all, he will only slow us down and the sooner we get back the sooner I can discharge my duty with respect to your activities."
Upon entering the room, Bones telepathically instructs Cinder, "Go find the mayor's room. Look for any books or notes. I wish to know what he knows about necromancy, and how far his powers have progressed. Report back as soon as you identify anything that looks of import."
At the mention of Raymon's activities both Lord Bal and Crush give him a look of confusion.
SpieltJoos make an investigation check for Cinder.
"Well than, if there is nothing else I guess you are all dismissed." Raymond says.
Crush with a true look of disapointment on his face. "That it, I was really looking forwards to some crushin. I thought youd all be a little more fighty the way yous were at the inn."
