Ront moves to the front, mace gripped tightly in his hand and ready to attack. Six will stay where he is, and looks for any tell-tale of magic coming from the newcomers. (Detect Magic at will =)
OOC - sorry once I checked everybody's dark vision I've had to modify Post #420. People can retcon their posts if they want.
Those with 120' dark vision (everybody except Ront, Eldrik and Glabbagool) can see that they are a group of Kuo-toa. Glabbagool communicates with Six "why have we stopped?"
Six thinks back to Glabbagool, but whispers to the others (not knowing if they can see the creatures in the distance or not), "There is a group of fish-head people before us. I don't know if they have seen us yet. Be ready." Six will watch the kuo-toa carefully. If they take aggressive or hostile actions, he will release blasts of energy at range.
Shuushar thinks for a moment and then responds "it is hard to tell with my people whether they are friendly or not. For example you will have noticed that i have no eyelids and my face is also largely fixed. Consequently we cannot use facial expressions to communicate in the same way that people of your ilk do! Certainly this group is not as flighty as is often the case with my people.
"If I wanted to show them that I didn't mean them any harm as I approached, what should I do?" the female gnome continues to the kuo-toa.
Shuushar thinks "the important thing is to show that you are not a threat. You would do this by four things: One - move very carefully - no sudden action Two - carry no weapons and show that your hands are empty Three - keep your head well back and your stomach thrust forward, almost as if you were swimming on your back Four - when you get close gently nibble - lips only not teeth - at whoever appears to be the leader."
Shuushar demonstrates what he means. "No, no you must bend your back further than that"as Topsy tries to replicate the action.
(Nibble the leader...LOL!!) Ront audibly snorts at the last point and hisses, "I ain't nibblin' nothin! Besides - these tusks are meant for biting! I'll try to stash the mace but it stays close."
Turvy looks dubious as Topsy attempts to follow Shuushar's instructions. When she waves a hand to encourage her brother to follow suit, he makes a rude noise. "I am not," he states. "I'd sooner lick a troll's foot." He looks at the kuo-toa. "No offense."
Topsy scowls at Turvy, but then says to Shuushar. "OK, I'll go ahead and try to make friends. You want to come along?"
Topsy scowls at Turvy, but then says to Shuushar. "OK, I'll go ahead and try to make friends. You want to come along?"
"That would not be a good idea. I worship Vah jo peedit hai and am considered to be a what you might call a heretic among the machalee log. If I was to accompany you it could provoke them. While I've shown you how to demonstrate friendliness among my people I cannot guarantee how they will react so please be careful" Shuushar responds
As Topsy advances towards the Kuo-toa what are others doing?
Six will stay back and be prepared to fling magical destruction at range if needed! Ront will follow Topsy, but about 10 feet behind her. He wasn't about to go nibblin' a fish-face, but he also wasn't going to let the little gnome be braver than him!
Topsy followed by Ront makes her way towards the Kuo-toa. Everbybody else is about 90 feet back but they can all see except for Glabbagool who says in a somewhat plaintive mind voice "what is going on?"
Topsy cannot tell whether her attempt at demonstrating friendliness to the Kuo-toa is working but when she reaches a distance of about 15 feet it is obvious that it has not worked as one of them suddenly flings a net at her (Attack: 10 Damage: 0)
Even though she was taken buy surprise (in a generic way) Topsy is able to dodge the net and does what .....?
When the kuo-toa flings the net, and Topsy agilely steps aside, he grabs the mace from his belt, moves forward to get in the face of the lead creature, bares his fangs, and roars at the fish man! "You do NOT want to mess with us, fish-head! We tried making nice, but if you wanna throw down, then let's do it!"Intimidation: 16 He will be ready to start clubbing if they attack...
Six, watching intently, will hold his action until another attack comes. If the kuo-toa attack Ront, he will hex the first one as a bonus action, choosing to curse the creatures dexterity. He follows this up with a blast of eldritch energy from the crystal in his chest! (Attack: 22 Damage: 3 force + 4 necrotic)
Ront moves to the front, mace gripped tightly in his hand and ready to attack. Six will stay where he is, and looks for any tell-tale of magic coming from the newcomers. (Detect Magic at will =)
Love God. Love Others. Any Questions?
"We could sneak ahead and take a look," Topsy volunteers, speaking for herself and her brother, who scowls at her in response.
Six is unable to detect any magic
How close are Topsy and Turvey going to go. If you decide to go ahead pls make new stealth rolls
DM - Stopping a god in his tracks
Topsy stealth: 5 — advantage if rocky terrain: 21
Turvy stealth: 13 — advantage if rocky terrain: 22
They will not go any further than 50 feet from the party.

Plain d20: 2
Performance would be +7
Persuasion would be +5
EDIT: I don't think she's doing it right. :)

I let fighter types use Strength for intimidation which takes the total to 7 - not sure that'll make much difference though

Yeah - the dice don't like me today!
