While washing the drow clothes, Ront considers dropping some of the more expensive looking garments over the side, but isn't ready for another beating yet. So instead he decides to search through the pockets, hoping to find some forgotten item that he can use...
(This could be where he finds the thing the DM said he starts the game with, or something else, or nothing at all! =)
As the prisoners are being returned to their cell – after a day which had been much like any other except for the small object that Ront had found whilst on laundry duty and unless something drastic happened promised to be their lot for the as far out as they can see – there is a bit of ruckus and you can see two guards dragging a structure that looks like a small iron golem into the cell. After throwing the creature into the cell you hear – as they’re leaving - one of the guards say to the guard who had shepherded the prisoners back into their cell was on duty at the cell “its been sitting in the armoury for as long as I can remember and then it’s almost as if its woken up and came to life. Some sort of charge zapped me as I was using to practice my sword strokes.”At the words ‘woken up’ the Kuo-toa moves over to the object and stroking a non-existent chin says to himself “the powers of Vah jo peedit hai are truly great - being able to awaken the non-living!”
You see a strange construct in the shape of a humanoid dropped unceremoniously on the floor. It has a smooth, golden plate where its face should be, and a hexagonal indentation in its chest where a single gem is lodged. You see faint red light coming from behind the gem, gently pulsing. There are several gashes and some dents - maybe caused by the drow using it as a sparring dummy, but some of the dents look more like they came from a crash or impacts by heavy objects. It does not move once dropped.
Ront, the orc, stands nearby, looking it up and down warily. Walking around it twice, he mutters to himself, "I heard strange tales from the tribal elders about metal men forged for war by dwarves, but never seen one myself. Wonder why this one start up again after being dead for years..."
Topsy takes a couple tentative steps toward the golem, but Turvy grabs her arm. When she looks at him, he shakes his head and mumbles something darkly. She moves back to stand beside him, her eyes avoiding everyone.
Prince Derendil looks at the Golem with little interest, more focused on sitting in his corner playing his with spider and glaring around the room, baring his teeth if anyone dares to step to close to him.
Eldrik looks upon the golem with a mixture of awe, wonder and a little fear. Not daring to step to close, he stares for a little while before walking away and muttering to himself. "I have heard stories of these beings but thought thats all they were."
Seeing the others walk closer to the metal man Sebastian wonders over and leans down in front of them and says "Well nice to meet you. Hopefully we can get to know each other, you can call me Sebastian for now. And so to start this conversion may I ask why you woke up after such a long time? I've always loved a good sleep in myself."
While Sarith takes note of metal man dropped into the room he takes more of an interest on how the other inmates are reacting, his eyes circling the room slowly.
The construct tilts its head at Sebastian, seemingly processing his question. After a moment, you hear a mechanical voice from the faceplate say, "You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging. They hit me,” you will say, “but I’m not hurt! They beat me, but I don’t feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?" He then returns to his resting position, and speaks no more for the rest of the night.
In the morning, a few of the prisoners will awake with all of their scrapes and bruises healed...
Next morning once again the party is woken by the Kuo-toa’s gentle chanting. Again it has been a restless night for most with dreams filled with just the sound of incessant buzzing and swirling shapes that constantly change.
Seeing many of the prisoners move more freely than they have for days and quite a few scrapes, cuts and bruises healing, the Kuo-toa intones“all praise to Vah jo peedit hai for he walked amongst us last night!”.
Not long after this the scarred drow that they have seen around the complex who seems to play a senior role among the guards is surprisingly on breakfast duty. As he hands out the breakfast bowls he mutters out of the side of his mouth to Eldrik and Jimjar “psssst over here?”
At the Kuo-toa's words, Topsy checks the palm of her hand where she'd broken open a blister the day before. To her amazement, the broken skin is healed. She elbows Turvy and shows him her hand. "Look!" she says in a loud whisper.
The male svirfneblin gives her hand a perfunctory glance before getting up and moving toward the drow guard to get his bowl of breakfast.
She gets up and follows closely behind, still whispering loudly. "My hand is healed."
Turvy stops and turns to scowl at Topsy, speaking darkly too quietly for anyone else to hear. After Topsy lowers her hand and her head, Turvy turns back toward the guard and accepts his bowl.
The strange construct does not move to take a bowl, but for some reason there is one there for it. Ront, looking over at the thing to see if it was going to come its food, just shrugs and grabs two bowls. He goes on the opposite side of the cave from the dwarf (old habits die hard - at least he was complaining less about being in the same room!) and noisily slurps down both portions before belching loudly.
Noticing the lack of complaining coming from the Orc, Eldrik does nothing but takes note in the change of behaviour. At the hint from the guard, Eldrik looks around suspiciously before making his way over warily.
Completely opposite to the Orc, Prince Derendil continues to complain and whine about how his treatment, which seems all the louder without the growling of Ront.
DM:
Are Eldriks observations whilst doing his duty starting to bear fruit?
After the metal man's response and the subsequent lack of conversation Sebastian finds his corner of the room as he beds down for the night. While taking his portion of the food, the next morning, Sebastian's interests are peaked after noticing the appearance of the scarred guard who brings the food. So while straightening up from taking his portion of food he wanders slowly to just off to the side of where the guard is, in an attempt to pick up on what his voice sounds like.
Sarith wakes up and takes his food but upon noticing the scarred guard heads to the opposite side of the room in an attempt to remain as discreet and unobtrusive as possible.
Jimjar cocks his head as the guard whispers to him, and begins walking toward him in what would best be described as a scamper, his attempt to look casual betrayed by his oddly irrepressible enthusiasm. "Looking for a bit of feedback on the dining services, are we?" the svirfneblin replies, attempting to match the surreptitious side-of-mouth way of talking exhibited by the guard, which comes across almost like someone's ironic impression of an amateur ventriloquist poorly trying to hide his mouth movements. "Could use a bit of salt, if I'm being perfectly honest. Or is there something else?"
Jimjar gets to the guard just as he says something (see spoiler) as he gives his cloak - which is blotchy almost as if its been stained by acid or bleach - a flourish.
What Jimjar and Eldrik hear
"Whoever is on laundry duty should check the pockets of this cloak, a key to gate will be inside the inner pocket"
